Everett winced as his finger slid away from his ear.
“Stop that.” The Doctor hissed at the Trenzalorian as he began to raise his finger back up to his right ear.
Everett dropped his head onto their table with a loud sigh “The buzzing will not stop!”
The Doctor’s eyes traced over Everett’s ears, putting to memory every detail—his brows knitted together as he realised they were as red as a lobster. “Well, rubbing at them won’t make it quiet down. It should go away in an hour or so, just try to be patient, okay?”
Everett’s head lifted a slight bit—his eyes narrowed. He stared at the Doctor for a few seconds before dropping his head back between his arms.
“You’ve been shown things, haven’t you?” The Doctor inquired in a hushed tone.
“Yes…” The Cyborg's brow creased significantly “But how did you know?”
The Doctor hummed—his lips quirked up into a wide smile. “I’ve known you for ages.” The Doctor rubbed at his eyes, “I can tell based on the determined glint you get in your eyes.”
Everett was at a loss for words, so all he could respond with was “Hm,” which made the Doctor slump.

The Road Not Taken
Chapter Two: A Plastic Present
Summary:
Once upon a time, a choice led to running and death for one of the Doctor's friends. Once upon a time, a sentient ship took matters into her own hands and changed that decision.
Now, time has changed, but is it for the better or for worse?
Old ghosts stir, old wounds reopen, and Nardole and the Doctor must navigate their way through with new friends and allies.

Snippet:
“Flip the stabilisers!” Nardole yelled at the Doctor as he clung to a crystal pillar.
Nardole groaned as the Time Lady ran the other way. The TARDIS whirred in laughter, the orange lighting flickering blue—she was glad to have her thief back.
The Time Lady ran past the translucent TARDIS model upon the console and cranked it sideways with an excited smile—as she did, the time ship lurched violently, throwing Nardole off the pillar back first into the console—THUNK—as his back connected, his hands found and grabbed a hold of the console, holding him tightly against it.
The Doctor herself took a tumble backwards, but in the process, she pulled down a handle and not a moment later, the TARDIS calmed down. WOOSH—WOOSH, the crystal rotor kept bobbing up and down, being the only evidence the ship was still in flight.
Nardole rubbed a bead of sweat from his brow, as his right hand let go of the console, and he didn’t fall; his mechanical heart slowed a few paces.
“Really, what happened to your flying skills?” Nardole glared the Doctor’s way. “You used to drive flawlessly. Now you drive like Mr Bean!” His voice squeaked as he finished the sentence.
The Doctor looked at him and pushed up off the ground, “I detest that.”

“Agh!” Everett pulled his arm out of the Doctor’s grasp. The Time Lord shot the cyborg an apologetic smile, “My apologies, I didn’t intend to switch that off.”
Everett stuck his left hand inside his arm and flipped a tiny red lever, bringing his hand back to life. Everett side-glanced at the Doctor. “I didn’t even know what was inside of me, and I knew that should not have been touched.”
The Doctor flipped the page of his notepad and noted something down, then tapped his pen against his chin, “The layout of your innards makes no sense; they really made sure you couldn’t be tampered with.”
“Of course they did,” Everett replied with a sneer firmly set upon his features. The Doctor put his pen down and spun back toward Everett. “But don’t worry, I’m making progress. Seeing as this is all new for you, let me show you my progress so far.”
The Doctor wheeled to the left, halting his chair at a round globe mounted on the workbench. Everett slid over to the Doctor and observed curiously as the man pulled up a schematic.
“Is that me?” Everett asked with a lifted brow—on the globe, Everett’s shape was being projected. A few parts lit up with an iridescent glow.
The Doctor’s hand lifted to the shape, and the man's index finger began to drag over Everett’s shoulders all the way to his left arm. “That’s all of your mechanisms that I’ve figured out so far.”

“So let me get this straight.” Lucie said as she plopped down next to Everret, “That thing-” Lucie gestured a thumb to the charred figure, “Just appeared out of nowhere?”
Everett stroked at his chin, “Pretty much that, yeah,” the cyborg leaned his head back to stare at Lucie, “although, it shouldn’t be that hard to get for you. The TARDIS does the same thing, doesn’t she?”
Lucie's expression went deadpan, “Well, yes! But she’s a spaceship. THAT’S a dead body! Very different.”
Everett did a half shrug, “Eh, doesn’t really matter anyway. What does matter is why it appeared here in the first place?”
“Uhm, guys.” Anton called from nearby the body, “Is it shrinking?”

[INT. BRIGHT’S TENT — EVENING]
Bright’s fists clenched together; not one thing was going right; he could deal with the audio link not being able to be set up again… But a town-wide power outage was pushing it.
“Lewin,” The superior officer began, “Do get to the point, I have had it up to here with…” Bright trailed off and waved his hands about.
Lewin nervously fiddled with a loose button on his coat. “Just tell me,” Bright’s face carried signs of tiredness—Lewin straightened.
“Yes, sir.” Lewin took a swift stride to the table and pushed a piece of paper in front of Bright.
The man blinked a few times as he scanned the contents of the piece of paper.
“Seriously?”
Lewin pushed his glasses up as he nodded, “Totally, sir, that’s where the outage originated.”

Snippet:
Shikamaru sighed and wiped some sweat out of his eyes, “It’s the Kuchiyose no jutsu, it's a jutsu used to summon Animal companions. We, Nara, have two, the Moles and the Deer.” Shikamaru’s head leaned back, “I don’t know which one he summoned.”
The cloud slowly drifted away, and a leg-sized mole sat on the ground in front of Shikaru. Dexter was very intrigued; he had never seen a mole that size.
“Yo, Boss!” the brownish-white mole saluted Shikaru. Shikaru rubbed at his chin. “Shiro was it?”
“Yes, boss, that’s me, Shiro of the mighty mole clan, at your service. What are your orders?”
If Dexter didn’t have full control of his face, his eyes would have bugged out of their sockets, and not many things could do that.
Now, Dexter had seen it all. Chakra, he could wrap his hand around; animal summons, even that he could. But talking ones, now that was something his head simply didn’t compute. He had killed so many animals over the years; did they also have the capability of speech?

there's a direct parallel between yahoo buying [tumblr] and disney buying the doctor who streaming rights. both thought they had acquired the Ultimate Jackpot Money Machine and instead they just inherited a very strange little thing that ultimately, as it turns out, does better just operating outside of the bounds of the modern sensibilities entirely.
You know what I hate more than those 'Hey I am a comic artist. {Insert empty compliment because this is copy and pasted.} Want to work with me? Here is my discord.' spam comments on AO3 I get on every single upload?
The long haul pitch.
Not me but a delightful friend had a few comments from someone and then connected with them in DMs, chatted with them for a bit and thought they were genuinely interested in the fanfic before they pulled the 'I am a comic artist, would you like collab' and then ghosted them when they said no thanks.
This makes me violent.
HEY, comic artists! Put your commissions on your own page! If you want to do work for a community, do some of your own pieces in that community and offer commission under your OWN POSTS. Stop with this pyramid scheme ass tactics of cold call messages and meeting with someone with the sole interest to just pitch them. YOU LOOK LIKE A SCAM. Is that what you want your art to look like? Is the buck that important to you? Greedy monsters.
This is not how you behave in a fandom space.
I want to beat you with a copy of My Immortal. 🔪🔪

Consciousness returned slowly to him; the darkness that had been gripping onto him tightly was replaced by eyelids.
Dexter’s eyes fluttered open on instinct—a cracked grey roof met him, not the darkness or fire like he had expected. Dexter didn’t feel dead, but how would he know what death felt like?
Maybe all of the Doakes situation had been a dream—no—a dream wouldn’t have been that vivid. He had felt everything that had happened to him—but now, as he stared up at cracks in an unfamiliar roof, he was confused.
Dexter moved, and his body reacted, a finger lifted to his forehead and roamed its expense—he couldn’t feel a bullet hole in it, “Strange”
Dexter blinked, surprised. That was not his voice, no, it was a male child’s voice; he should know, he had spent enough time around Cody to recognise what that sounded like.
Okay, he could figure this out; he had no bullet hole in his skull, his voice sounded different—like a child’s, he needed to see himself—there was an outcome of death he hadn’t factored into play.

Six hundred and thirty-eight million light-years away from Earth lay the Goldilocks zone.
Its system, filled with the brightest stars—stars that burned hotter than any other.
Stars that repelled any sort of envoy without the right shielding against their burn power—leaving the zone untouched for most of the universe's existence.
One of the few planets inhabited within its system was Kepler-22b.
Hundreds of years ago, the confederate alliance between Zhar and Artrax found the planet by accident.
As a diplomatic deal, they travelled to the planet's surface, where they claimed it as part of their alliance and finalised their deal.
Now, hundreds of years in the future, it is used as a prison planet governed by the Atraxi.
