The Finale: Preliminary reactions
Not too many surprises in this episode. I was just waiting to see how exactly everything would play out. And right now, I just have:
This was an excellent way to end the show. No big explosions or unnecessary conflicts (they used those cliches in the past episodes), just the resolution of all the loose ends.
I had hoped that all the guest stars would show up again but that would have been logistically challenging so a montage of flashbacks was good enough. And I was so happy to see Kevin, Bruce, Bobby, and Amelita greet Anna in Heaven.
The last few scenes were a nice touch, parallel to the first few scenes of the pilot showing how everything has come full circle.
(Though I expected Sophia to have someone beside her in that bed!)
All the major characters were accounted for (even Jessuka. Ugh, I will never ever like her and I wish her screentime went to Barthia instead). The shipper in me wishes there was a longer Barthia scene but I think it was handled just right. After all, the ship was never the focus of the show anyway.
All in all, a very touching and well-balanced ending to one of the best shows I've ever seen on Philippine television.
Goodbye and Thank You, Madame Anna! You will be missed.
100 Days to Heaven Rant (Thursday Edition)
So wonderful.
I can't believe there's only one episode left. But most of the loose ends were tied up in this episode (and more besides) so there's still one episode left for an awesome finale.
Of course, the abduction arc ended as it should. I did find it interesting how Madam baited Miranda and said all those harsh words to her just to buy some more time. Though it really would have helped if she didn't lock Jopet and Bart in a room. I still ended up feeling bad for Miranda (and praising Valerie) because I know that all she ever wanted to be was a good wife to Bobby. And I'm sure he never took it against her that they didn't have any children.
And Sophia FINALLY forgave Madam. We all saw that coming but I still couldn't help but tear up a bit as I watched that scene. (Again, brilliant performances.)
I think they would have made it in time at the hospital if they didn't waste so many minutes talking after the abduction. Geez, Madame could have explained everything in the car!
I have a feeling, like we all do, that Anna Manalastas isn't going to end up in Hell. But I think the fact that she willingly chooses to pay the price for "not completing her mission" (which I think she still did since she forgave her mom. She just didn't get to tell her in person.), will be the sacrifice that will finally earn her entrance into Heaven. I think it's important that she doesn't believe she can enter heaven so that she really will. It's confusing, I know, but I don't have much time to articulate. All I can say is, Anna started out in the mission with the selfish goal of getting herself into heaven and now that she's given up that selfish desire, she has finally proven herself worthy of entrance.
Pen Medina is just amazingly appropriate for Tagasundo. His mere presence is badass and he can play up the sinister and menacing persona very well. Perfect casting.
I think it would have been interesting to explore what they meant about the "laws governing Heaven and Hell" because I don't think that Tagabantay grants 100 Days to every potentially good person who made lousy choices in life. Why was Anna Manalastas an exception? Why was she given a chance? We may never know.
And of course, my favorite part was the AWESOME, EPIC DUEL BETWEEN HEAVEN AND HELL!
Main reasons being Jake Cuenca and COCO MARTIN!
(I am such a huge fangirl of Coco Martin like you have no idea! I also really like Jake!)

LOL at Sophia's being blown away by Tagabantay! Bart got really jealous, I think.
That epic fight scene was cheesy and totally unnecessary and just some ridiculous excuse to showcase Jake and Coco's martial arts training but I didn't even care.
It was awesome. Those few minutes of action with just the right amount of special effects were some of my favorite moments of the whole show even if they technically weren't needed for the story. I love how the writers always find a unique and creative role for every guest star so that you don't know what to expect.
Tomorrow is the epic finale and though I am sad to see one of my favorite shows end, I am also eager to watch how it all plays out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all the guest stars will make an appearance (like in "May Bukas Pa") and that Madame will be greeted at the gates of Heaven by Ghost!Kevin, Ghost!Bruce, Ghost!Bobby, and Ghost!Amelita. AND BARTHIA PROPOSAL AND WEDDING PLEASE. If they're going to make an epilogue, let it be detailed and full of BARTHIA!
100 Days to Heaven Rant (Wednesday Edition)
I have to say that I'm not very impressed with this abduction arc. By far, it's one the show's more unimaginative plots. But I see why it needs to be done, and all the events that lead up to it. I see the purpose it serves for the story which is slightly frustrating because it serves more as a plot device than just an enjoyable/moving part of the story. It's predictable and to a certain extent, an insult to the intelligence of the characters.
And it also shows an appalling amount of police ineptitude. Miranda got out of the police station all by herself! Even if she was a madwoman, you'd expect that PMA graduates could do a lot better than that. The police were also easily diverted by Mang Andres.
And furthermore:
I thought I would never have to use that macro again. But apparently, this annoying character hasn't left the country. I don't even know what business she would have to go and visit Miranda. And why didn't she just get out of the way? She hindered Bart from helping Sophia. And she didn't even have the courtesy to die! (I'm really mean but she has just sunk to another abyss of uselessness. Ugh. I can totally understand why Miranda shot her so quickly.)
But if anything, this conflict really brought out the best in Valerie Concepcion. She was a revelation and I was seriously impressed.
It takes some skill to be able to portray a villain convincingly and she really did. Her descent into madness and thirst for revenge were excellently done. I wasn't so sure she could pull it off since she has such a sweet face but boy, did she turn twisted! So that was one merit of the plot.
We all know how it's going to end anyway. And I'm glad that the abduction plot won't be the last part of this great show. It's too good to sink into the old cliches.
What I didn't expect was the bringing back of Anna's mother subplot. And I'm glad they did it. Continuity is something this show does not lack. I always felt that the resolution of that mission seemed a little insufficient, and now we know why. I don't know what's about to happen but the sinister presence of Tagasundo (who Pen Medina played as brilliantly as he always does) gives us some clues.
I'm looking forward to the epic showdown between Tagabantay and Tagasundo!
Especially when Tagabantay uses his magic hands!
I can't believe that there are only 2 episodes left. THERE HAD BETTER BE A SHEDLOAD OF BARTHIA IN THE END OR I WILL SMASH SOMETHING.
What the writers decided to do for the finale.

100 Days to Heaven Rant (Tuesday Edition)
Just like every episode in the past few weeks this one was extremely moving. I just feel bad that there wasn't enough time to show the Ramirez family in grief.
Remind me again why Bobby had to die a pointless death?
No, I see WHY he had to die. I am just in denial because I am fond of his character. It seems like all the major families of the show had to experience a death in the family before this show ends. Bobby didn't stand a chance against the needs of the plot.
Excellent performances from Rafael and Emman. I've never seen them in serious roles before so they really shone here. And for once, they were recognized as independent characters and not just love interests of the main cast. They had as much at stake in the story as Sophia and Anna. And now, they've suffered similarly as well.
Everything hurts right now. EVERYTHING.
I enjoyed the scenes between mother and daughter. Again, I applaud the writers for showing how complex the process of true forgiveness is. Sophia should get some credit. She KNOWS what she should do but her heart still CANNOT do it. At least she acknowledged that much. And Madame appreciates all that.
And there are still some hours left. I think Sophia will call her "NANAY" before the 100 Days are up. But buckets more tears are going to flow after that.
I also liked the scenes with Madame and Jopet and with Madame visiting Kevin and Bruce.
It was a little too much to expect Miranda to forgive Madame and Sophia. She is drowning in grief and rage. I was hoping that her revenge would happen tonight (to leave room for other things during the rest of the week.) But it seems like it will still happen tomorrow (because once again, the only competent policeman in the universe of 100DTH is Jack De Guzman and he's busy on some other mission.) Ugh.
Oh, and she's going to shoot Jessuka? (Nope, still don't like her. Never will. What was she doing in the precinct anyway? I thought she had left the country. Look at your stupid choices in life, Jessuka.) So Jessuka dies.
So much would have been better if only all the police in 100DTH did their jobs properly. Bobby did not have to die.
Oh well.
We all know that Sophia and Madame are going to survive that encounter. Governor Vilma Santos is going to sort things out.
What I'm holding out for is the EPIC showdown between the younger versions of Tagabantay ng Langit and Tagabantay ng Impiyerno.
Rant on the Preview for Tuesday
I needed a separate post for this because I have too many feelings about it.
At first, when they showed Miranda's revenge, I was really, really bored.
Then, I saw Pen Medina being badass as an emissary from Hell.
Then, he and Tagabantay faced off and morphed into two of my FAVORITE YOUNG ACTORS EVER!
THIS IS THE BIGGEST MLKI CROSSOVER EVER. YOU GUYS HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I'VE BEEN WISHING THIS.
I kept wishing for them to include Coco Martin as a guest star but since it's the last week, I didn't see it happening. I'm so glad I'm wrong.
And Jake....I love Jake too!
Suddenly, I'm not so upset anymore about Kevin, Bruce, and Bobby. KIDDING!
And I'm also glad that they reversed their roles and mestizo Jake is from Hell while moreno Coco is from Heaven. There's a whole essay in my head on how awesome this is but I don't have the time for it now. There's even a postcolonial interpretation I'm tempted to explore. But nevermind. I just had a little nerdgasm there.
Suffice to say:
100 Days to Heaven Rant (Monday Edition)
The episode started well. A lot of issues were neatly sorted out. The problem with the company was finally solved. Everything was going great.
And Anna's speech to Andres about how much she loved her 99 days on earth really made me tear up.
It makes me realize that all of us have been on this journey together with Anna. And we'll see it through the end. Personally, I started as a passive fan of a show and then I became a regular ranter and an intense shipper. I followed this show from Manila to Paris and I will not let it go.
We should be used to brilliant performances by now but what makes this cast brilliant is that they always exceed our expectations.
I loved all the Ramirez family interaction (although these happy times were bad omens.)
It was great to see how the siblings "originally" were. Truly happy. I loved all their reminiscing scenes and Bobby becoming the big brother Bart and Yani loved so well. And it was great to see him finally accept Jopet and Yani. Everything was so beautiful.
Then, of course, the writers had to rip my heart out and kill off (hopefully not but it's looking very likely) the character who redeemed himself.
I can't say I didn't see this coming. I did. It doesn't make it hurt any less. And it doesn't make me less annoyed at how pointless Bobby's death was. Every time they kill off a character I like, something dies inside me.
At least Kevin was seriously ill. Bruce's death was pointless. And now Bobby's death is pointless. And all the more tragic since he finally reconciled with his siblings, Madame Anna, and Sophia.
I'm still hoping they let Bobby live. This is too much for Bart and Yanie to bear.
But then again, we all thought Kevin would live. And we didn't even think Bruce would die.
I love the show but it's getting really masochistic to watch it now.
This show has its funny moments but it is essentially a series of tragedies. It's like you can't find redemption without going through suffering. You can't reach heaven without first passing through hell.
100 Days to Heaven Rant (Friday Edition)
NOTE: So sorry for the delay in posting this but this weekend has been crazy for me. But I am not about to let the last week of the show go by without daily rants.
That was a wonderful episode!
I've been waiting for the Ramirez reconciliation arc for so long! As well as the Madame Anna-Bobby reconciliation.
All the scenes with the three siblings were amazingly portrayed by the actors and I'm so glad that in spite of all that's happened, their family bond has remained strong. Bobby has finally seen the error of his ways. I always had faith in you, Bobby, and you have not disappointed me!
I also enjoyed watching the scenes with Bobby and Madame because when you think about it, while she was alive, he was probably the closest she had to a son. He was her protege after all, and I'm sure she loved him in her own way. And I was so glad to see them make amends to each other.
(I probably have more to say but it's 2am and I have classes tomorrow.)
And everything was great, the performances were top notch, and I would have been happy if not for Miranda's getting away.
Seriously, is Jack De Guzman the only competent policeman in the world of "100 Days to Heaven"? I was worried about this.
And THAT PREVIEW:
I really, really hope that I'm wrong because every scene in that preview is so predictable and cliche. Teleseryes always end this way! CAN WE PLEASE NOT SLIP INTO THE CLICHE?
1 - Miranda kidnapping and threatening Sophia in revenge for whatever happens to Bobby.
2 - Madame jumping in to sacrifice herself for Sophia. Sophia finally forgiving her at the last moments.
UGH.
And KILLING OFF BOBBY? JUST WHEN HE FINALLY RECONCILED WITH EVERYONE?
I AM STILL KEEPING THE FAITH THAT THE WRITERS WILL NOT LET THIS END LIKE EVERY OTHER TELESERYE IN THE HISTORY OF BROADCAST TELEVISION. I DID NOT STICK WITH THIS SHOW ONLY TO SEE IT LAPSE BACK INTO PREDICTABILITY.
BUT THEN AGAIN, THE WRITERS ALWAYS SURPRISE US WITH A TWIST. IT HAD BETTER BE A GOOD ONE!
