Unknown Lost Property is a curio that I’ve seen a lot of people on Twitter say “oh that’s Kakavasha” and it is honestly a big stretch.
For reference, this is the curio. At first glance, yeah it totally looks like it could be him! But the story is what disproves this.
Alda isn’t mentioned anywhere outside of this curio. And Kakavasha’s home planet, Sigonia-IV, already has a stated location. I could be super wrong and missing something, but there’s no way this curio is Kakavasha.
I still remember seeing this light cone when the game came out and being like "who are these two???" and "why does the guy in the back look so devious?"
Anyways, I do think the cone has some vague things to be analyzed connecting to Aventurine, but only some since the main focus is clearly Topaz.
"A New Round of Shuffling" is the name of the ability the light cone provides, and I think it's clearly connected to Aventurine given he's known for being a gambler and is shown with cards in a lot of his other media appearances.
I also think the description is pretty neat too, giving us a pretty good summary of some of what the IPC does. I personally think it aligns a lot of what we saw during the Trailblaze Continuance on Jarilo-VI (where Topaz was introduced and we heard Aventurine's voice for the first time) and shows us more of the IPC's values overall. For being named the Interastral Peace Corporation they definitely are less interested in peace and more interested in profit.
It's a conversation which I like to think is between Topaz and Aventurine, mostly because the other guy is just a random IPC goon and probably isn't talking to Topaz, especially since the dialogue seems to be between people of equal level, just from the vibes it gives.
I'm hoping next update we get some more Aventurine stuff for me to analyze because after I finish the Eidolons I don't want to run out of things too fast!
Wowie it sure has been a while! I assure you I'm not dead, just burnt out and drowning in schoolwork but other than that I'm thriving!
Droprate Maxing doesn't really have a super deep meaning or analysis into it, differing from the other names in that it isn't related to philosophy / isn't a thought experiment or paradox proposed in philosophy. Droprate is referring to the literal drop rate of rewards in games but specifically to Aventurine I think it means maximizing the possibility of a favourable outcome, or something that he'd profit from, similar to Ambiguity Aversion. I do think it's neat how this eidolon has the feature of increasing the Ultimate and Basic ATK combined with the name. Yes I know all E3 have a trace increase, but I just thought it was neat!
Now onto the image. This is interesting because it's the only one we can see his whole face unobscured, although it is slightly blurred from being at the edge of the eidolon.
This could be because showing his face maximizes the "drop rate" or the probability of a favourable outcome. The card looks to be an ace of spades, which we've seen in his outfit and boss form a lot (mostly just the spade part). The ace of spades specifically is a symbol of strength and authority, and is typically the highest valued card in a deck in most games. This could be the drop rate the title refers to, or something he is sacrificing to gain it, or showing to gain it.
The shot of his hand also shows off his rings so that combined with the card could just be him showing off his power, wealth, and status.
Something about Ratio using art as a means of venting his emotions or frustrations. Sculpting his own likeness only to destroy the statue before the clay can set, taking out his self hatred on this replication of him. Finding perhaps a tiny bit of solace in the way his fist aches and his knuckles bruise after punching his imperfect, stone replica and watching its head fall from its body. Puncturing a hole through his canvas before he can even finish what he was painting because the way his hand shakes while moving the brush is just agitating enough to be what sets him off.
Emotions are messy and illogical, they don't follow one linear like most things, which is what makes them so profound. Just like art. It's never unlike artists to lash out at their mediums for not ending up perfectly.
He takes immense care of his artworks, as seen with him polishing his alabaster head, yet who's to say there's not dozens of broken statues to accompany his broken self image?
So much to unpack! I'll go paragraph by paragraph.
He received a gift from the Nightingale family? Was it a gift to him personally or to the Guild? I'm assuming it was to him personally, as it's with him in the bathtub, but then from who?
I'm not surprised that he's so uninterested in the fall of The Propagation after the end of the Herta Station quest, but again, was the book a gift or did he just borrow it from the Guild?
And the IPC gifting him a book about Dr. Primitive. That's more interesting to me because not only does he refer to it as a 'street tabloid' (which is the first time he's shown any kind of disrespect towards a member of the Genius Society) but also, and again, why did the IPC give this to him? Are they also interested in finding more info on Dr. Primitive and so they're tossing articles down to the Intelligentsia Guild to try and find answers?
I love how he 'relaxes' by doing more thinking instead of less, like in his daily message where he asks TB for something to stimulate his brain.
Also, doing some reading and most epsom salts can be effective for up to an hour, which (unsurprisingly) confirms he takes very long baths. I've seen people asking who would be calling him professor while in the bath, but I think it's likely not an actual person given it's a dream.
I also just really enjoy the last little line of dialog as well, it's really easy to forget that Ratio is just some guy under all his intelligence and achievements. He, too, wonders what he's going to have for dinner tonight just as anyone else.
Tbh it’s amazing how you’re able to analyze this from something so small and a simple dialogue exchange but I’d expect nothing less from my dearest 10yrratiolover
what is the difference between " intelligentsia guild " and " genius society " ?
In as little words as possible,
The Intelligentsia Guild is an academic institution that's sponsored by the IPC.
The Genius Society is an intergalactic organization whose members were personally selected by Nous.
In more words,
The Intelligentsia Guild is a place that is meant for anyone and everyone who seeks knowledge or to learn. Knowledge is like currency within the guild, in which scholars trade knowledge from their own areas of expertise. It has various sub-factions/schools that are based around multiple things (Ecology, History, etc) which all function as individual organizations.
The Genius Society is described as a 'Gathering of Geniuses' that are hand-picked by Nous. Aside from being a part of the same faction (and their intellect) most of the Geniuses do not have much in common. The Genius Society members don't have to communicate with each other and by the phrasing of the faction's description it seems most of them don't.
The wiki also states, "Due to the tampering of the History Fictionologists and the preference for solitude among most of its members, the history of the organization is mostly shrouded in mystery." which is quite neat to me I didn't notice that before.
More simply put, again, the Intelligentsia Guild is more similar to a "By scholars, For scholars" kind of faction, while the Genius Society is allowed to do whatever they please. (in regards to the faction not like in general)
An in-depth analysis of Aventurine's hands and why they're critical to his character.
Was asked if I could post this (VERY LONG) analysis I made all about Aventurine's hands - niche, perhaps, but I love him very much and he has a LOT of focus placed on his hands in almost every aspect of his story/design! I think it makes for a really neat insight into his character. Let’s go! 2K words or so so we're under a 'read more', folks :P Hope someone finds it interesting :)
Content warning for (very brief mentions of) sexual theming and violence.
I MIGHT be reaching with some of this but I tried to make sure everything was in order, so if there are any inaccuracies lmk! I'm Always on the lookout for more valuable Avencheem lore 😋
The Avgin - Culture and Symbolism
Kakavasha was born 'blessed' with unnaturally good luck by the Avgin goddess, Gaiathra Triclops, who is often depicted as a left palm with three eyes upon it. If we assume that therefore, someone’s left hand is representative of Gaiathra, then we can draw some interesting conclusions!
When reciting Gaiathra’s prayer, the typical accompanying gesture is for two participants to put their left palms together while saying it, which - by ‘covering’ Gaiathra’s eyes with each other’s palms, they are (as per the words of the prayer) ‘keeping their schemes forever concealed’.
In the version of Aventurine’s boss form that was removed from the Divergent Universe, he has an attack that changes name for each phase of the fight, as follows:
Phase 1: “Eyes Once Closed for Lies”,
Phase 2: “Eyes Twice Closed for Trickery”
Phase 3: “Eyes Thrice Closed for Schemes”.
This suggests that the symbolic act of Gaiathra closing her eyes is blessing the person in question not to have their lies, trickery, or schemes revealed - “I do not perceive it, nor shall anyone else.” This is important to the Avgin, as they seem to have a cultural focus on underhanded methods of achieving their goals, although this was blown greatly out of proportion by prejudice from other Sigonians, and (later) the wider cosmos. The game’s loading screen description of the Avgin is as follows:
“‘Avgin’ means ‘honey’ in the Sigonian language, yet those who irrationally fear Avgins unjustifiably distort the word's meaning to perpetuate Avgin stereotypes that portray them as crafty, smooth-talking, and capricious.”
Sparkle, when talking to Aventurine, also describes the Avgin as “...notorious throughout the entire universe! Liars, thieves, social manipulators, wolves in sheep's clothing... You're really living up to the reputation.”
The Avgin’s reputation as essentially ‘evil’ people, and the clear cultural and religious importance they place upon one’s left hand specifically, can reveal some interesting things about them (and therefore about Kakavasha):
In the real world, the left hand is very commonly considered to be the ‘wrong’ or ‘evil’ hand across many religions and cultures. The word ‘sinister’ (which may be a good descriptor for Aventurine’s behavior, or at least peoples' perception of him given how other characters react to him during the main questline) comes from a Latin word that means ‘on the left side’.
The French word for left, ‘gauche’ was borrowed back into english to mean ‘lacking social grace’ - and with Aventurine’s way of getting all up in peoples’ faces, grandstanding, being provocative, etc., it seems that ‘gauche’ isn’t a bad descriptor for him, either.
In the early 20th century, left-handedness was identified as ‘a biological anomaly, associated with deviancy but something that could be corrected away with behavioral reinforcement’.
Likewise, in the middle ages in England, left-handed people were more likely to be accused of witchcraft and burned at the stake. Sounds familiar when compared to the way Sigonia treated the Avgin - as evildoers, tricksters, backstabbers, etc.,
If the Avgin were so ‘left-handed’ in all senses of the phrase, then… perhaps the ‘behavioral correction’ they received could be justified...?
It is reinforced several times throughout both written lore and during gameplay that the Avgin’s beautiful appearances and high emotional intelligence were a source of jealousy to other clans and races, hence the perpetuation of the Avgin’s negative reputation - one that Aventurine ends up playing into, often intentionally.
Why bother trying to change the stereotype if he can use it to his advantage? Besides, it’s not like getting rid of the Avgins’ negative rep will help them now, anyway.
All this is to say that the concept of hiding your true intentions with your left hand - ‘keeping your cards close to your chest’, ‘bluffing’, ‘having an ace up your sleeve’, knowing when to ‘show your hand’ - is a huge overarching theme for the Avgin, and therefore for Aventurine.
Notice that a LOT of sayings to do with hiding things from others or manipulating people’s impressions of you and what they think you might do come from poker or other card games! I can’t think of any universe where the devs did that by accident. Nice work, devs!
The Left Hand
‘Sleight of hand’ is the name of Aventurine’s game, and he sure knows how to play it. ‘Sleight’ means “the use of dexterity or cunning, especially so as to deceive”, so naturally the suffix ‘- of hand’ brings Aventurine’s hands to the forefront as one of his main tools of the trade!
However, the devs once again outdid themselves - each of Aventurine’s hands is representative of parts of his character in very different ways.
Everything about Aventurine is designed to cleverly divert attention away from his real thoughts and feelings.
I’ll get the obvious out of the way: Aventurine’s left hand (as previously discussed) is critically important to his character. It represents so many things for him both visually and otherwise.
If you’re a regular Aventurine enjoyer it’s likely you know about his habit of hiding his left hand behind his back when he’s nervous or making a big (or life-threatening) gamble - but why?
He’s specifically hiding Gaiathra’s hand. I don’t think it’s a coincidence; Aventurine - by hiding away what is essentially a physical representation of his goddess - is ‘closing her eyes’, so he cannot be seen through (even if it’s purely subconscious).
He wants people locked onto his gaze and away from the hand he’s clutching Gaiathra’s ‘blessing’ of good luck so tightly with. (Note: the ironic nature of Aventurine’s relationship with his cursed blessing isn’t lost on me, but that’s another day’s essay. :))
This habit of hiding his left hand behind his back is (once you’re looking for it) very common in the majority of his animations, art, cinematics, and other various media, like in his character trailer when he’s about to reveal the result of his big dice roll; in a specific animation during his bossfight, where he’s actively banking on losing so he can carry out his ‘grand death’ (‘clutching his chips for dear life’, as his future self put it…); the idle animation where he’s fidgeting with one of his poker chips; or in the ‘Final Victor’ light cone, where he is playing russian roulette with his own life just to prove a point to Dr. Ratio (which was a little excessive, perhaps…).
Usually, having a hand behind your back is considered to be suspicious: you’re hiding something, perhaps a weapon.
And for Kakavasha, out of fear and knowing it’ll give him the upper hand, he hides his own weapon behind his back: the physical representation of all his schemes, strategies, lies, trickery, and tactics - and the last Avgin palm to touch another’s.
Perhaps in relation to his particularly strong connection with Gaiathra, Aventurine is also left-handed! Evidence? Sure!
As a general ‘fashion rule’ (and for practicality), wristwatches are worn on the non-dominant hand, and someone as fashion-conscious as Aventurine would very likely be aware of this. His watch is on his right wrist.
Additionally, he wears no rings on his left hand because writing or similar activities would be a pain to do with that much jewelry on. Further evidence can be found in this phone wallpaper of him released by Hoyoverse: he’s holding his phone with his left hand, and people usually operate their phones with their dominant hand. Similarly, in one of the many videos on the Hoyoverse YouTube channel (I’m sorry I don’t know which one it’s from), he goes to grab his tablet off the bedside table with his left hand, too.
The Right Hand
Aventurine’s character is, at its core, is all about defense. Protecting himself from harm, shielding his thoughts and feelings from others, creating an impenetrable barrier of flashy clothing and fake smiles to conceal his true self - this all presents in his moveset in battle, too.
He’s a preservation-class, shield-providing character. The critical thing to note is this: his defense all happens on the right hand. This includes his skill (throwing out chips with his right hand to shield his teammates), and his technique, which generates an additional shield for the team before the start of battle.
His right hand ‘shields’ him both literally and metaphorically in this sense. He wears all his rings on his right hand, because that’s the hand he wants you to focus on, the pretty, sparkly one with all the flashy jewelry and expensive wristwatch, the one that’s extended for you to shake (he shakes with his right hand), the only part of him most people get to touch. A part of the body furthest away from his heart, dazzling and defensive.
The outermost, superficial layer.
It’s the hand that more often performs captivating little coin tricks out in the open to catch people’s attention, keeping them focused on something that’s within his control, because so much of his life isn't.
On The Attack
Here’s the kicker though - this makes his left hand the attacking hand. When push comes to shove (or when he feels he needs to strike first), Aventurine lashes out with Gaiathra’s hand.
As mentioned before, his weapons are his schemes, his secrets, his tricks, his lies - and the hand holding all those chips so tightly is his left, the lucky hand, the one that has brought him success and saved his life time and time again.
Ultimately, it all comes down to relying on his raw luck to push him through (whether he's happy about that or not) when all his other methods of attack have been stripped away - and his hand trembles, because having to make a blind bet that his goddess (who did nothing to stop his family being massacred, yet is both cruel and benevolent enough to keep him alive) will save him yet again must be really fucking terrifying.
When Your Hands Are Tied...
Looking at both hands together, a design choice which I believe to be deliberate is the way he has bracelets of some variety over both his wrists. It’s a subtle imitation of manacles; he may have escaped his iron ones, but Aventurine now lives in golden handcuffs instead, bound by social shackles instead of physical ones.
He’s still a slave - just not in the traditional sense.
To my understanding (someone please correct me if I'm wrong, his timeline has some annoying gaps in it even though I tried very hard to figure it out ;-;), technically Aventurine legally belongs to the IPC.
He killed his most recent owner and so escaped his that particular ownership, sure, but when he barters with Jade, he asks her to pay him the ‘remainder of his market value’, which insinuates that it would therefore give him ownership of himself.
However, Jade doesn’t simply hand over the money: she pulls him into a job contract - a new form of imprisonment - without ever giving him real legal autonomy, never officially declaring him a free man. His hands are invisibly tied - bound by corporate and social 'manacles' to his job.
"Out, Damned Spot!"
Speaking of manacles, let’s talk about the ‘Hunger Games’, shall we?
Kakavasha is, at some indeterminate point, entered into a spectator sport where he is forced to fight thirty-four other slaves to the death.
It is mentioned that he has no other weapon than the bindings on his wrists and the chain between them - and he emerges ‘victorious’ (physically the victor... perhaps not mentally or emotionally, though).
In the quest notes during Aventurine’s (literal) trip through the maze while he’s making his way to the stage for his grand finale, he describes himself with the word ‘murderer’, showing that he’s clearly distraught by what happened and resents himself for it.
Following on from this, a possible interpretation of the design choice to have Aventurine wear gloves is for him to (figuratively) hide the blood on his hands.
Aventurine’s gloves simultaneously create a literal barrier between himself and the world, and work as another piece of fancy clothing to add to his impenetrable, sparking defense. The closest match I could find to the style of Aventurine’s gloves are short dress gloves or wrist gloves, which are specifically fashion items as opposed to practical ones.
(As a cheeky little aside, the absolute closest style match I could find for his gloves are latex or leather womens’ gloves most commonly used in BDSM, which is fun! Maybe I’m reaching, but I like to think it’s a subtle way of making him more effeminate - and in Aventurine’s case, therefore a subtle call to his sexuality imo - and also another little detail to help push his ‘provocative’ appearance and demeanor.)
Conclusion
Our hands are how we interact with the world. In Aventurine’s case, they’re how he keeps the world pushed as far away from himself as possible, all the while gripping onto his ‘good luck’ for dear life.
Aventurine’s hands are his weapons, his shield, his faith, his fear, and his guilt, decorated with jeweled rings and bound in golden handcuffs.
Ultimately, when Aventurine offers to lend a hand to the Trailblazer, when he shows Sunday his hand (and a bit more besides) during their meeting, and when he forces Acheron’s hand during his bossfight, it's so that his own hands are free to do whatever he needs to orchestrate his greatest scheme yet...
Hello! I hope you're doing well! 😁 Ratio question for you on this fine day, provided you haven't talked about it already (sorry if you have!)
In your opinion, do you think he's still trying to get into the Genius Society? Or has he resigned himself to the idea that it won't happen? And if so, what do you think he feels about the whole thing now? I imagine it have been hard for him to accept if so.
Hi! I think I mentioned my thoughts on him and the Genius Society in passing in one of my posts but I've never really gone too into detail on it.
So, I believe it was in my character stories post that I said this
Which does pretty much capture my thoughts on him sort of giving one final attempt to prove himself worth of the GS and instead receiving a letter from the IPC.
However I will absolutely go more into detail on what I believe his thoughts on the GS to be.
So, I believe that deep down Ratio was always at least somewhat aware of the fact that he wouldn't get into the GS, though as I stated in my character story post I don't think he truly swallowed that pill until he received that letter from the IPC.
Ratio knows himself well and it's easy to tell that he sticks out from the members of the GS (that we know of), not only in just his achievements and research, but who he is and how he acts. He was always subconsciously aware of the fact that he perhaps cared too much about people, but individuals and humanity as a whole.
His Planetary Weapon was a last ditch attempt of sorts to try and prove that he too can seek knowledge without taking life into account, though the letter he did receive made him realize that wasn't the type of person he wanted to be.
(There's a wonderful post by @/overdressedcarp that incapsulates my thoughts on the Planetary Weapon in much better words and I'd recommend reading that as well!)
I think a deeper part of him may still hold onto a bit of hope that he still can make it, however he's mostly forced himself to drop the ambition.
This heavy rejection would certainly brew a lot of conflicting emotions, especially considering getting into the GS has likely been a goal for years for him. I believe Ratio wouldn't have the greatest skills with emotional regulation considering most of his life has been centered around logic and things that tend to be black and white, yes or no. Emotions are confusing, complicated, and often they don't have one solid answer.
I think he may have been bitter for a while afterwards, not towards the GS who he holds a very high amount of respect for given his interactions with them, not even towards Nous, but towards himself and how soft-hearted he is beyond the hard-stone of his alabaster head. Bitter is the best word I can think of if I had to only use only one. Melancholic, spiteful, depressed, I can imagine his students noticed he was a bit snappier following this event.
Oh my goodness I didn't even notice I have over 100 followers now, TBH I get a little scared posting because people might start booing and throwing tomatoes but I'm still very much active I promise!
Anywho, today I wanted to post about his statues since I find them neat. This post probably won't be super in-depth, maybe just pointing out which statues reference what, but if you know my account, you know I love to talk, so.
Sticking to the ones that are in reference to already existing statues, firstly his statue replicating Discobolus
Now, it's believed by many people that Discobolus represents the 'athletic ideal' while also being admired for capturing an unmatched representation of proportion, harmony, rhythm, and balance.
It is known through Ratio's character stories that he keeps his body in peak condition in the same way he does his mind. I enjoy the thought of him playing sports, especially after one of the Hoyofair videos, and the concept of him sculpting himself with inspiration drawn from what was considered ideal for athletes at the time is an interesting concept. Perhaps it is a way of channeling potential issues of perfectionism regarding his athletic capabilities.
Next up, his statue depicting The Benavides Monument
I find this one particularly interesting because the Monument was originally built to commemorate Miguel de Benavides, the founder of the University of Santo Tomas. As seen in Ratio's character stories the university that he graduated from does share a first name with him (why that is hasn't been disclosed to my knowledge), and such I find it neat that this is a potential reference to a University founder within history.
Lastly, I believe this statue is a reference to the statue of Arnold Schwarzenegger
This one I'm honestly not as confident about this in comparison to the other two, however, Arnold Schwarzenegger is regarded as one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time, and this statue was built to commemorate his relationship with Columbus. (Funnily enough, Arnold Schwarzenegger also commissioned the massive statue of himself and it's easy to assume that Ratio sculpted his himself.)
So, the image itself isn't too interesting to me as, all characters have some sort of bust-up shot for their e5. (though look at his smile hehehe)
Anyway, what interests me more is the name of it: "Sic Itur Ad Astra"
This is his first Eidolon to be in a different language, with his e1 to 4 being all in English, while his e5 & 6 are Latin phrases. I point this out because I find it odd to start in Latin at 5, since they could have only had his e6 be Latin as the e6's are commonly the more 'interesting' ones. Regardless I find it neat.
Now, the saying itself is a quote from Virgil, a Roman poet, with its literal meaning being "thus one goes to the stars" while it's more poetic usage meant "such is the way to immortality" I'm going to look into both.
Starting with the literal meaning, thus one goes to the stars, the phrase is like a longer way of saying to reach for the stars. Ratio all throughout his life has done just that, reached for the stars, continuing to reach further even once he had reached them. He is far amongst the stars, but being among stars will make everything else seem so far away. To reach for the stars means to aim big, when you aim big and succeed, you aim bigger. Ratio had been with the stars for a lot of his life, yearning to explore further stars and galaxies in his accomplishments since maybe, just maybe, he will finally reach the star symbolizing Nous' gaze.
The poetic meaning used by Virgil, such is the way to achieve immortality, can also be applied to Ratio. I don't mean literal immortality, as in he's some entity that's unkillable, no. I instead mean his contributions to the universe. He's done and achieved so much in his life that his legacy will likely carry out long after he's died, inside and outside of the Intelligentsia Guild. Though, I feel that within the Guild this would be especially prominent, seeing as knowledge is used as a sort of currency, he will be remembered for decades to come for his contributions. Some people believe that you don't truly die until someone says your name for the last time, so, is this not some sort of immortality, to have your life and work never forgotten? To still spread knowledge and aid in teaching others even after you've died?
Combining the two, truly it is because Ratio has reached for the stars that he's achieved this immortality. Even if he can't possibly reach every star in the cosmos he's still been granted the gift of never being forgotten.
“Go ahead, use me as you wish, even stab me in the back if you see fit. Exploitation and treachery are simply tools of the trade. But remember, I don't make deals that don't pay off... So, I hope you don't disappoint me.”
This line gets used by thirsty fans a lot, TOO MUCH. And it makes me ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS. Aventurine is already one of the most sexualized characters in the game by fans, and the amount of people using the “use me as you wish” on its own is.. A LOT. Sure it sounds suggestive if you remove it from the context of the quote, but there’s context for a reason.
“Exploitation and treachery are simply tools of the trade, but remember, I don’t make deals that don’t pay off” he’s saying that he will allow the trailblazer to use him, but that he is also using the trailblazer as a means to an end. NOT THAT HE WANTS TO BANG YOU.
This topic in general makes me livid especially since I saw a compilation of "Aventurine Noises" which was mostly just him grunting and out of context quotes from when he was under the Harmony's influence. He was NOT aroused, he was in MENTAL AGONY!!!
I wanted to ask a question about a part of ratio's lore
He joined the Intelligentsia guild why was he left with no choice ? Since he wasn't noticed by Nous and he also didn't join the genius society ?
( forgive me if this is a silly question 🥲 but I didn't quite understand this part )
* and I apologize if there are any spelling mistakes, I'm using Google Translate
I don't think there's a canonical reason stated for why he joined the Guild, however it could be possible that he joined the Guild because aiming higher wasn't working despite his efforts.
However, I am more inclined to believe that he is in the Guild for more genuine reasons, or, for reasons that aren't tied to the Genius Society at all. The data bank states that "The Guild is willing to accept all beings from the infinite universe who seek to learn, as well as providing all that is needed for the full pursuit of knowledge."
Not only does the Guild promote a space for learning, it also promotes a space to share that knowledge, stating: "Members trade knowledge for wisdom and formulas for recipes, seeking to achieve mastery."
So, essentially the Guild is like metaphorical economy or trading hub that uses knowledge instead of money or goods. Ratio is a teacher within the Guild, seeing as someone with his intelligence and publicly known accomplishments could easily get a better job, I believe that he chooses to teach in order to spread his knowledge. His desire is to 'cure idiocy' and, what better place than somewhere that actively encourages spreading knowledge?
Though, the data bank does also state that: "Only the cream of the crop can become members of the Genius Society, but the Intelligentsia Guild wastes not." Which is an interesting quote to observe when speaking about Ratio in particular, sort of implying a sense of 'hey they won't take you, but we will!'
The Intelligentsia Guild is, according to its wiki, is a group that is financially supported by the IPC. Meaning, that by default, those within the Intelligentsia Guild are in a lower position in power than those in the IPC.
Yet, Ratio is almost always showcased alongside the higher ranking IPC members, commenting under their social media posts (albeit only Aventurines but I digress), being very frequently shown alongside them in promotional material, and even having a reference in the actual IPC trailer.
Now, it's been made clear already that he does have direct relations with the IPC, as seen in the Penacony story, but trying to figure out what these relations exactly are is where I'd like to look.
It is clear he isn't a direct member of the IPC, seeing as he is exclusively introduced as a member of the Intelligentsia Guild, however, in his third character story Margaret states that he received an invitation from the IPC. The exact details of this invitation are not given, but it is described as carrying an amount of solemnity. This, and the fact that during the Penacony story Ratio states, "…only IPC senior members and related members can access it - but I happen to be among them." THIS as well as the fact that in the space station mission, he is introduced as a Delegate from the IPC.
Now, I believe that Ratio is not necessarily a direct member of the IPC, but more an honorary member. I think this is mostly because he is never mentioned as a member of the IPC, only the Intelligentsia Guild. However The Intelligentsia Guild is heavily implied to be an extension of IPC of sorts, and many Intelligentsia Guild members likely do work for IPC, Ratio included. It's clear in his third character story that the IPC is aware of his existence specifically, and I find it easy to believe that his intelligence is used for the benefit of the IPC, especially since in that character story he was sent that letter during the test-firing of an anti-planetary weapon he had developed.
I think he refuses to accept a direct job with the IPC, not wanting that title before or after his name when he's introduced after knowing about all the things that the IPC has done.
I don't think Ratio would want to be associated directly with the IPC, instead being perfectly content to remain in the Guild, leading to yet another faction that he will never join due to his humanity and care for people.
I think Ratio would be good with kids. Children are always so curious about the world around them and asking questions about whatever they can see.
But they aren't cursed with the same ignorance as those who are older, those who choose not to learn, they're just experiencing everything that there is for the first time. I think he's patient and gentle with kids, ensuring he explains things in ways that are easier to grasp and understand fully depending on how old they are.
I think he would try to smooth down his sharp tongue when dealing with kids. He of course doesn't sugarcoat or lie about things but changing up his word choice when explaining more difficult topics so that the child won't be further confused or upset.
I think he would go out of his way to ensure that children don't feel stupid for asking questions. He doesn't patronize them for not grasping why the sky is blue, or where the sun goes at night. He simply explains it to them as he would anyone else.
