These works are from my love affair with abstract painting. They are indicative of a time in which I felt something valid yet undefinable to say.

A Farm in Amish Country 15" x 20" x 1" Digital photography on canvas August 24, 2013
Was with my 22-year-old daughter on vacation in Lancaster PA, land of the Amish. It was 7 a.m., and I wanted to go out and shoot, and my daughter wanted to sleep. I went out, and this pic is what I came up with.

Lead poisoning is one of the biggest threats to California condors on the central coast. A small animal like a ground squirrel that has been shot by a rancher provides a tempting meal for a scavenging condor. But if lead bullets have been used, the condor faces a high risk of lead poisoning. And since they scavenge communally, a single contaminated carcass can poison and kill many condors. ⠀⠀ Ventana Wildlife Society provides free non-lead ammunition to ranchers and farmers in several counties in central California. This kind of work is helping to reduce the impact lead poisoning has on the delicate condor population. ⠀⠀ Fun fact: the juvenile in this illustration, tag number 711, is named Big Gulp. 😄 ⠀⠀ This illustration is one of several that will be featured at VWS’s new Discovery Center exhibit.
