Let The Pain Out || Buddie (November 5th)
Eddie got into Buck's jeep and buckled up, a long, havey sigh leaving his lips as he relaxed on the seat. "Only sleep?", he asked, looking at him with a small pout on his face, then laughed a little. "Okay. I'm so tired I can't even fight you on that point." He thought about it for a couple of seconds. "How about a pint of ice cream? You pick the flavour. You know I trust your good taste." They turned the corner around to where the restaurant was. "Let's order drive-thru. I don't feel like coming out of the car. Then we can stop for the ice cream at the grocery store." There was another car in the queue to order, so he shifted on his seat to look at him and smiled. "I'm so thankful to have you in my life, Evan. I really am."
Buck shot Eddie a raised eyebrow and a look that said yes, only sleep, because as much as he always wanted to do more with Eddie, he knew what the other man needed now more than anything was food and sleep. Ideally, with Buck next to him. "I'll do you one better," he said, flicking the indicator to go into the drive-thru, "we'll grab dinner here and then stop at the Baskin Robbins drive-thru that we'll pass on the way, and then we don't have to stop at all."
They waited in the queue when Eddie spoke and Buck turned to look at him. He'd never really experienced the kind of grief Eddie was feeling right now, but he knew it must be hard. And yet, he was still somehow the most caring person Buck had ever dated in this moment, despite it all. "The feeling is incredibly mutual," he reached across and took Eddie's hand, giving it a squeeze, "I'd do anything for you Eddie, you know that right?" They moved up in the queue and a voice crackled through the speaker to ask them to place there order, which they both did. Buck then ordered a couple of extra dishes and before Eddie could ask what for, he said, "for leftovers. So we don't have to cook tomorrow either." They pulled through to the next window and paid and, after a short wait, was passed through their food too.
They pulled back out of the lot, Eddie holding the back with the food on his lap. It was a comfortable silence, though Buck kept glancing sideways to check on Eddie.
It wasn't long before they got to Baskin Robbins, picking up a couple of pints of flavours through the drive-thru, then making it back home. "C'mon," they got out of the car and he took Eddie's hand with the hand that wasn't holding the ice cream (Buck) or their dinner (Eddie), "let's get inside."
