Akira (1988) / Production Report / Studio Footage

Akira backgrounds were bought to life using a number of techniques including paint markers, airbrushing and various brushes, some of which were extremely fine. Single hair paint brushes were reportedly used to create much of the detailing on distant Neo Tokyo towers. Apparently, this attention to detail caused friction between Otomo and some of the artists. But the result speaks for itself.

A remarkable man, artist, and historian of the industry. Some people accuse Walt Disney of being anti-semitic or a racist. I don’t know what to say about Walt, but pretty sure Floyd Norman put them in their places!

Millions of American children who had racist parents been watching his cartoons for decades! They didn’t even know a black man made this!

Is nobody going to acknowledge the Chinese rip-off version of The Amazing World of Gumball? It’s called “Miracle Star” but it’s literally a photoshopped Gumball

Like it’s the exact same animation style albeit at a worse quality. Literally the same characters but slightly tweaked. Even the dialogue is ripped straight from the Carton Network original

They literally just redrew over the original animation

Way back in June I ran a really fun Character Body Language workshop with Dani Cresp as part of the Homecooked Comics Festival, and I’ve finally put together a tutorial that covers a lot of what I went through in the workshop.

During the tutorial I show and talk through animating a walk cycle in Photoshop, the four important poses that make up a step and important character drawing principles such as line of action, avoiding tangents and overlapping action.
