favorite thing about them

I love how much he is just Some Guy. That contrast with Juro Izumi's more heroic persona is compelling, and I kind of like that Kurabe isn't quite that guy.

least favorite thing about them

I feel that him developing feelings for Megumi happens really fast for how much weight the game puts on it. Personally I kind of think it would be fitting for his character arc if he didn't end up having romantic feelings for her, but resolved to protect her anyway as a way of honoring the person he used to be. They're not a bad pairing, though, the way it happens in game just makes it feel very one-sided on her part.

Complicated though it is, I quite like Juro's relationship with Kyuta Shiba. They're a good duo.

I think I'm probably the only person who ships this, but I think Kurabe would be great paired up with Ryoko Shinonome. They have some similar experiences they might be able to bond over, plus I like "sweet and sour" pairings a lot.

I don't think this version of Juro should be paired with any version of Morimura/Fuyusaka. Much like my thoughts on him and Megumi, but even more so: let this Juro be his own guy!

I think it's very weird that the final (pre-epilogue) cutscene is centered on Juro. I never really thought of him as the "main character," so it struck me as a bit odd.

Every story with a complicated plot/premise needs the guy who loudly proclaims that "this shit doesn't make any goddamn sense," and Nenji Ogata is one of the best to ever do it. He's also just an undeniably good guy.

Nothing major comes to mind... i wish there were some resolution to the fact that (rot13 for late game spoilers): Xratb Btngn'f zvaq svyr vf whfg puvyyvat va gur pbzchgre fbzrjurer?? It doesn't really take away from his story at all, it's just a weird thing to include and never follow up on.

I can't find the exact quote, but there's an exchange between Nenji and Shu where they try to tell each other about all the weird shit that's been going on, but because they are each experiencing DIFFERENT weird shit that doesn't seem to be connected, neither of them believes the other, and they each lampshade the fact that yeah, out of context it all sounds made up. Very funny scene!

Shu Amiguchi, obviously, though I like his friendships with a lot of characters. Miwako and Juro are top contenders as well.

personally? i enjoy being a fan of characters who have done Wrong. i like when a character is not a perfect victim, has hurt people, has transgressed, has done bad things. sometimes its nice to feel the sting yknow? and to recognize that a character is not a flawless perfect victim, but is deserving of understanding and compassion anyway. a lot of people in fandom refuse to let go of moral absolutism and its... rough.

one of my hot takes is that it is actually YOUR responsibility to learn to cope with the fact that you are aging and time is passing. it is your responsibility to be aware of that and process it in a productive way. you should have a basic awareness that you were a child, and have become an adult, and you will eventually become an elder, and at the same time there are people around you at various stages of aging, and all of us are going through this process together and entering different stages.

processing aging and time and your own death allows you to actually be in the world of right now because you've already accepted that you are already part of history, your exact moment in time is not the most specialist or unique moment, things will continue on after you and this is your time to be involved in things.

& if you don't do this, you end up being a ticking time bomb of ageism that could go off whenever you have to interact with anyone significantly older or younger than you. and that behavior is absolutely insufferable to be around and hampers the development of intergenerational relationships, because every other human being who isn't in your age bracket becomes a walking symbol of your own unprocessed fear of death, so you feel the need to either make fun of them or obsess over their moral degeneracy or both.
