mulder and scully truly invent falling in love in every way possible. they have all those almost-moments where they know, and then don't know. all those close calls, gentle looks, shared laughter, shared grief. hugs, comfort, hands finding each other. flashes of "oh, it's you. it has always been you." so if they ever ask each other "when did you fall in love with me?" the only answer can be "which time?" there is no big moment. they do it again and again. even after they've put a name to it, even then. even when they know. they still find opportunities to fall in love with each other all over again. they never stop. it's just what they do.
