Verse of the Day
And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. Romans 5:5
Random Fact of the Day
If you suffer from iatrophobia, you're afraid of doctors.
Quote of the Day
"It is astonishing with how little wisdom mankind can be governed, when that little wisdom is its own."- William Ralph Inge
OwnIt365 Day 2 Notes Part 3
S- Genesis 3;19- "By the sweat of your brow you will eat you food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and dust you will return." O- I think God is saying that we are special to him, but we are just dust and dust we will return, so there is no need to stock up on earthly possessions because it won't go with us when we die. "By the hard work of your hands and the sweat from your forehead you will grow food for you to eat until you die and become earth, since from it we were created; for earth we are and earth we will return." A- I need to remember that I just will return back to dust someday and I need to not worry about how much money I have or collecting earthly possessions. Instead I could use that money to help build and add people to God's kingdom. P- Dear God, May You please help me to not worry about earthy possessions and to worry more about furthering your kingdom. May You please also help me to remember that I am created out of dust and I will eventually return to dust. Love, Britt
OwnIt365 Day 2 Notes Part 2
Job 3-4: 4:6- "Should not your piety be your confidence and your blameless ways your hope?" 4:17- "Can a mortal be more righteous than God? Can even a strong man be more pure than his Maker?" 3:1-26- Job's first speech is addressed to no one in particular. In it he simply gives the expression to the depths of his suffering. 3:3- He is as close as he will ever come to cursing God, but he does not do it. 3:16- He envisions the grave as a place of peace and rest. 4:1- The speeches of Job's three friends contain elements of truth, but they must be carefully interpreted in context. The problem is not so much with what the friends knew but what they did not know: God's hidden purpose in allowing Satan to test Job. 4:7-9- If Job is truly innocent, he will not be destroyed. 4:8-11- Just as the strongest lions eventually dies, so the wicked are eventually destroyed. 4:17-21- All mortals are sinful; therefore God has a right to punish them. Job should be thankful for the correction God is giving Him.
OwnIt365 Day 2 Notes Part 1
01/03/12 Day 2: Genesis 3-5 and Job 3-4 Genesis 3-5: 3:19- "By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return. Eve- mother of all living cherubim- a celestial being 4:7- "I f you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at you door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it." 5:2- He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them "Mankind" when they were created. 3:1-24- The disobedience of Adam and Eve, and God's response that affects the whole course of human history. Adam and Eve-->Cain, Abel, and Seth Seth (lived 912 years)-->Enosh Enosh (lived 905 years)-->Kenan Kenan (lived 910 years)-->Mahalalel Mahalalel (lived 895 years)-->Jared Jared (lived 962 years)-->Enoch Enoch (didn't die lived 365 years)-->Methuselah Methuselah (oldest person/longest to live lived 969 years)-->Lamech Lamech (lived 777 years)-->Noah Noah-->Shem, Ham, and Japheth Cain-->Enoch Enoch-->Irad Irad-->Mehujael Mehujael-->Methusael Methusael-->Lamech Lamech and Zillah-->Naamah and Tubal Cain Lamech and Adah-->Jabal and Jubal 3:1- "serpent"- Satan 3:5- Satan accuses God of having unworthy motives. 3:6- "good for food...pleasing to the eye...desirable for gaining wisdom"- three aspects of temptation 3:12- The man blames God and the woman-anyone but himself-for his sin. 3:13- The woman blames the serpent rather than herself. 3:14- The serpent, the woman, and the man were all judged, but only the serpent and the ground were cursed. 3:17-19- Though he would have to work hard and long (judgement), the man would be able to produce food that would sustain life (grace). 3:24- The sword of God's judgement stood between fallen humanity and God's garden. Only through God's redemption in Christ do people have access again to the tree of life. 4:1-26- How human sin progressed from murder to arrogant assertion of independence from God and claim of total self-sufficiency. 4:1- Eve acknowledged that God is the ultimate source of life. Abel- breath or temporary or meaningless 4:3-4- The contrast is not between an offering of plant life and an offering of animal life, but between a careless, thoughtless offering, and a choice, generous offering. 4:8- The first murder was especially monstrous because it was committed with deliberate deceit against a brother and against a good man-a striking illusion of the awful consequences of the fall. 4:13- Cain responded not with remorse but self-pity. 4:16- Nod- Location unknown. Nod- wandering 4:17- Cain tried to redeem himself from his wandering and vulnerable state by the activity of his hands. 4:19- Polygamy enters history. Enosh- man or human kind Jabal, Jubal, Tubal-Cain- to bring or to carry or to lead 5:3- As God created sinless Adam in his own perfect image, so now sinful Adam has a son in his own imperfect image. 5:22, 24- "walked with God"- The phrase replaces the word "lived" in the other paragraphs of the chapter and reminds us that there is a difference between walking with God and merely living. Seth- Granted Cain- brought forth or acquired; metal smith Noah- comfort
OwnIt365 Day 1 Notes Part 3
S-Job 1:20-21- At this Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised." O- I think God is telling me that we should praise Him in the good times and the bad, because He is always there for us and has a plan for our lives. Job then took off his clothes and shaved his head. Then he bowed down on his knees worshiping God, and saying "Naked I came from my mother, and naked I will die. The Lord has given to me and the Lord can take things away from me; let the Lord be praised at all times." A- I need to praise God more in my life instead of complaining about how some things seem unfair. I just need to trust God and His plan for my life. P- Dear God, May You please help me to trust Your plan more and to complain less about how some things are just unfair. May You please also help me to praise You not only in the good times but in the bad times as well. Love, Britt
OwnIt365 Day 1 Notes Part 2
Job: From The Bible Book by Book by Josiah Tidwell- The Argument 1. There is a conference between God and Satan and the consequent affliction of Job. 2. The first cycle of discussion with his three friends in which they charge Job with sin and he denies the charge. 3. The second cycle of discussion. In this Job's friends argue that his claim of innocence is further evidence of his guilt and impending danger. 4. The third cycle. In this cycle Job's friends argue that his afflictions are just the kind that would come to one who yielded to temptations such as those to which he is subject. In each of the three cycles of discussion with his friends, each argues with Job except that Zophar remains silent in the third cycle. 5. Elihu shows how Job accuses God wrongly while vindicating himself and asserts that suffering instructs us in righteousness and prevents us from sinning. 6. God intervenes and in two addresses instructs Job. In the first address, Job is shown the creative power of the Almighty and his own folly in answering God whom animals by instinct fear. In the second address, Job is shown that one should know how to rule the world and correct is evils before one complains at or accuses God. 7. Job prays and is restored. Purpose- The purpose of the book, then, is to justify the wisdom and goodness of God in matters of human suffering and especially to show that all suffering is not punitive. Job's temptation came by stages and consisted largely in a series of losses as follows: 1. his property 2. his children 3. his health 4. his wife's confidence 5. his friends 6. the joy of life 7. his confidence in the goodness of God. From NIV Study Bible- Author: Unknown Audience: God's people Date: Unknown, though Job himself probably lived during the patriarchal period. Theme: The wisdom book deals with the question of whether God is a God of justice in the light of all life's perplexities, such as human suffering. Job 1-2: Job 1:20-21- At this Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he tore his robe and shaved his head. The he fell to the ground in worship and said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised." Job 2:9-10- His wife said to him, "Are you still holding on to your integrity? Curse God and die!" He replied, "You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?" 1:2- seven sons- An ideal number, signifying completeness. 1:6- "angels came to present themselves"- They came as members of the heavenly council who stands in the presence of God. 1:8- "my servant"- God's acknowledgement that Job had been faithful and loyal to him. 1:19- "mighty wind"- tornado 1:21- Job's faith leads him to see the sovereign God's hand at work, and that gives him repose even in the face of calamity. 2:10- "Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?"- A key theme of the book: Trouble and suffering are not always punishment for sin; for God's people they may serve as a trial or as a discipline that culminates in spiritual gain.
OwnIt365 Day 1 Notes Part 1
01/02/12 Day 1: Genesis 1-2 and Job 1-2 Genesis: From The Bible Book by Book by Josiah Tidwell- We have the record of 1. the beginning of the world which God created, 2. the beginning of man as the creature of God, 3. the beginning of sin, which entered the world through the disobedience of man, 4. the beginning of redemption, seen a like in the promises and types of the book and in the chosen family, and 5. the beginning of condemnation, seen in the destruction and punishment of individuals, cities, and the world. Purpose- The chief purpose of the book is to write a religious history, showing how after man had fallen into sin, God began to give him a religion and to unfold to him a plan of salvation. From NIV Study Bible- Genesis means in the beginning. Author- Moses Audience- God's chosen people, the Israelites Date- Between 1446 and 1406 B.C. Theme- Genesis is a book of beginnings that introduces central themes of the Bible, such as creation and redemption. Genesis 1-2: 1:27- "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." 2:23-24- The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. 1:1- A summary statement introducing the six days of creative activity. "In the beginning God" The Bible always assumes, and never argues God's existence. Although everything else had a beginning, God has always been. 1:2- God's "separating" and "gathering" on days 1-3 gave form, and his "making" and "filling" on days 4-6 removed the emptiness. Days of Forming-->Days of Filling 1. "light" (v. 3)-->4. "lights" (v. 14) 2. "water under the expanse...water above it" (v. 7)-->5. "every living and moving thing with which the water teems...every winged bird (v. 21) 3a. "dry ground" (v. 9)-->6a1. "livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals" (v. 26) 6a2. "man" (v. 26) 3b. "vegetation" (v. 11)-->6b. "every green plant for food" (v. 30) 1:17-18- The three main functions of the heavenly bodies. 1:22- God's rule over his created realm promotes and blesses life. Adam- man 1:26- Humans are the climax of God's creative activity. 1:29-30- Humans and animals seemed to be portrayed as originally vegetarian. 2:1- A summary statement concluding the six days of creative activity. 2:4-4:26- The beginning of human history. 2:4- The phrase "the account of the heavens and the earth" introduces the story of what happened to God's creation. The blight of sin and rebellion brought a threefold curse that darkens the story of Adam and Eve in God's good and beautiful garden: 1. on Satan (3:14), 2. on the ground because of Adam's sin (3:17), and 3. on Cain (4:11). 2:9- "tree of life"- Signifying and giving life, without death, to those who eat its fruit. "tree of the knowledge of good and evil"- signifying and giving knowledge of good and evil, leading ultimately to death, to those who eat is fruit. 2:11- "Pishon"- location unknown. The Hebrew word may be a common noun meaning "gusher". "Havilah"- Location unknown. 2:13- "Gihon"- Location unknown. The Hebrew word may be a common noun meaning "spurter". 2:14- "Asshur"- An ancient capital city of Assyria. "Euphrates"- the river 2:15- The man is now charged to govern the earth responsibly under God's sovereignty. 2:24- The divine intention for husband and wife was monogamy. Husband and wife should be bound together as "one flesh" as long as they live. 2:25- Freedom from shame, signifying moral innocence, would soon be lost as a result of sin.
OwnIt365 Tip Sheet for Week 1 of Bible Reading
Old Testament Reading Reading Genesis 1-2 What to Look for: The role God played in creation The things God provided on earth Wisdom/Old Testament Reading Reading Job 1-2 What to Look for: Job's life and character before being attacked The conversation in heaven How Job's friends initially reacted to his suffering Old Testament Reading Reading Genesis 3-5 Genesis 6-8 Genesis 9-11 Genesis 12-15 Genesis 16-18 Genesis 19-20 Tip: Abraham's homeland, the land of Ur, was located in southern Mesopotamia in modern day Iraq. Abram first traveled northwest to Haran in modern day Turkey. Then he traveled southwest to the land of Canaan. What to Look for: What factors caused the fall of mankind in the garden (Genesis 3) How the sacrifices of Cain and Abel were different (Genesis 4) What role faith played in building and use of the ark (Genesis 6-9) What role independence from God played at Babel (Genesis 11) What role faith played in Abram's journey to Canaan (Genesis 12) What role doubt played in Abram's flight to Egypt (Genesis 12) What role faith played in Abram's deliverance of Lot (Genesis 14) What role faith played Ismael's/Isaac's births (Genesis 16-17) What the purpose of circumcision was (Genesis 17) How Abraham showed hospitality to his visitors (Genesis 18) How the sinfulness of Sodom affected Lot's family (Genesis 19) Wisdom/New Testament Reading Reading Job 3-4 Job 5-6 Job 7-8 Job 9 Job 10-11 Job 12-13 Tip: Job's homeland, the land of Uz, was likely Idumea, the site of Petra along the southern edge of the Dead Sea. Today, this area is on the border between the countries of Israel and Jordan. Job is struggling with the unimaginable loss of everything dear to him: his career, savings, employees, health, ten children, and the support of his wife. Amazingly, he does not curse God. But Job does waver between clinging to God in faith and maintaining his own righteousness. See Job 13:15 which illustrates this struggle. What to Look for: What Job decided to curse instead of God (Job 3) How Eliphaz claimed God spoke to him (Job 4-5) Who Bildad blamed for the death of Job's children (Job 8) The difficulty Job felt in approaching God (Job 9-10) The lack of compassion of Zophar (Job 11) The lack of support Job sensed from his friends (Job 12)
Book Recommendation
I recommend the website and book I Am Second. The stories are phenomenal. They truly touch your heart and pull you into the story of their lives and how they found Jesus. :) There's videos and stories like Josh Hamilton, Lecrae, and Brian "Head" Welch from Korn.
Musical Post
I am looking everyday for that someone, a friend, a sister, or brother that will stand by me and help me through, when I've done all I can do, and will help me cope. Someone who will dry my tears and fight my fight and someone who will hold me tight and won't let me go. I'm looking out for that one, that one I've been shooting in the dark for, and the one I have been looking for my whole life. I look for my redneck Romeo. But then there's these days that my vision is clouded by people with words like knives that they are throwing at me. They knock me off my feet and make me feel like a nothing and pick on me because I'm the weaker man, but what they don't is I'm on the right track baby, and I am beautiful in my own way, because God, God doesn't make mistakes. :) If everyone cared and nobody cried, if everyone loved and nobody lied, if everyone shared and swallowed their pride, then we'd see the day when nobody died. I'm just glad to be alive. We will show the world they were wrong and teach them to say I'm glad to be alive. All I really want to do is something that matters, say something different, something that set's the whole world on it's ear. I wanna do something better with the time I have been given, and I wanna try to touch a few hearts in this life, leave nothing less than something that says "I was here". And without black, no color has any depth, but if you mix black with everything, suddenly there's shadow-no not just shadow, but fullness. You've got to be willing to mix black into your palette if you want to create something that is real. And I'm never gonna walk away, and give up. Ambition is a dream with a V8 engine, and if I could fit the world into my pocket, take a hidden dream and unlock it, we'd all be flying in one rocket. It's my dream and no one can stop it. I was born to be somebody. Ain't nothing that's gonna stop me. I'll light up the sky like lightning. I'm gonna rise above; show 'em what I'm made of. I'm gonna take care of all my memories, because I cannot relive them, and I'm gonna glorify God by using the talent He gave me and doing the best I can, even though it might not work out all the time. Up, up, up, we can only go up from here. All the credit goes to my favorite musicians and in the case of the second to last one, my favorite baseball player. :)
Verse of the Day
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.- Galations 5:6

Random Fact of the Day
A healthy (non-colorblind) human eye can distinguish between 500 shades of gray.
India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq
I think I have a calling from God to these countries. I want to be a missionary when I grow up and would love to go to these places. I'm planning on going to India the summer of my 18th year. I think it would be a fun opportunity to learn about what I'm getting myself into. :)
