Thinking about how the people in New Eden have to re-learn the passage of time and how to track it.

On Snowpiercer, time was marked in bells, announcements, carved in steel and snow and uniform inspections.

Every minute was accounted, every meal apportioned and every day was another tick tick tick of a metronome on wheels.

Time was a sterile thing.

Out here, in New Eden, time bends. Time leaks. Time seeps into the soil down deep into the slowly thawing aquifer. The sun keeps its own time. Appears when it wants to. There is nobody to tell you when you have done enough meaningful work to earn your rest, your meal, your bed.

But time blooms. Time swells as the laughter from town hall drifts down past fairy lights and empty glasses and discarded poker chips. Time unfurls like a lazy Sunday morning. Time rests.

Time wilts. Time shifts and changes direction with the wind. Frosts last longer than you hope, and winter comes quicker. Time ages you in ways you did not notice under florescent lights.

Time stands still. Long moments before dawn when the weight of the world is much heavier now you're no longer moving.

Time grows, and so do you.
