A dear friend of mine asked a few questions about GSGW, so I figured I’d share my answers here :3

Questions:

What are Ghost stories and what do they serve to the main storyline?

How have they served character development (like who has been heavily affected by ghost stories?)

Ghost stories:

Ghost stories, as described in the gsgw wiki are: “Alternate spaces based on urban legends.” btw it can be ANY urban legend, old or new. How are they created in the DER world? well, we don’t know a pinpoint explanation. But let’s refer to the ghost story KSE encounters called ‘Red clothes at Exit 4’. He explains in this arc, a way ghost stories can be created. the way being, basically, ‘Fake it till you make it.’ To put it simply, a ghost story goes around on the internet. people spread lies about it and come up with fake encounters to the point those encounters become REAL. because so many people believed in the ghost story, it became reality.

Extra: How are ghost stories ranked?: Theyre all ranked in different ways, the default way being daydreams (Grade F through S) S is the most dangerous, F is passive. the grades go: F (Impossible to die), E (Equipment that comes from ghost stories), D, C, B, A, S. there have been no encounters with an S grade in gsgw yet. The closest we get is Sekwang Special City but they used a different grading system for that ghost story since it’s not registered with the daydream company.

What ghost stories serve to main plot line:

It’s pretty simple, they kind of jumpstart the whole world building, basically in KSE’s og world, everyone made a wiki containing the ghost stories and it manifested into the DER world (There’s an argument going around in the fandom, basically did the chicken (KSE’s world) or the egg (DER world) come first?)

Throughout the GSGW plot line, KSE goes on adventure in multiple ghost stories either as like a side mission or it helps build the main plot. you discover more things about the DER world through the ghost stories! (Ghost stories that were/are highly significant to worldbuilding: Happy theme park, Sekwang Special City, Jisan village, Abyss Transpo, Mermaid Tomb, 16th road, Dream incubator room)

⚠️ WARNING: This post includes GSGW part 2 spoilers and personal opinions!! ⚠️‼️

KSE: Jesus or God? (Ireum-nim)

I notice many people in this fandom state that KSE is a God of the DER world. I don’t believe that’s the case.

I don’t know how to do transitions, so bear with me.

Anyways, in the novel, it is stated that Ireum-nim is the god(s) of the DER world, those gods actually just being the wiki editors (Revealed in 237). KSE is in fact, one of those wiki editors. However, can he really be considered God?

(I will be using actual religion, coming from a Christianity POV!)

So, the deal with KSE. He’s considered god, but he was also summoned to the DER world to save them. This was revealed at the end of Chapter 342.

“I understood.

The one they invited was me.

The supernatural disaster in Segwang Special City occurred as part of the ritual to invite Kim Soleum—from a world without urban legends”

Woah!! Crazy! Where am I leading with this? Oh yea, can a god really be considered a god if they are summoned down to earth? If they take a physical form made to sacrifice save everyone? No! Why? Because that means getting rid of god. You can’t get rid of God… God can’t die, But, Jesus can. This is where it gets tricky. And where actual religion comes in.

What’s the difference between Jesus and God?

Jesus: The son of god, savior of the world. He can also be considered God. As He holds Gods power and is directly connected to Him.

God: The supreme being, creator and ruler over the world.

So basically, Jesus is the physical form of God. In this case, he’s the one made to be sacrificed. After all, he gets resurrected.

Now, let’s compare Jesus to KSE.

Both Jesus and KSE were called down to the world to sacrifice themselves and save humanity. The difference with KSE is that before he came down, he was a wiki editor, AKA God. But actually, that does NOT separate KSE from Jesus! Jesus was also considered God before He came down to earth!

Jesus was with God from the beginning, he participated in the making of earth (as did KSE with DER!)

That is why I consider KSE not god, but in fact Jesus.

After Thoughts/Additional Info:

This is opinion based because nothing can be proven in religion, as there’s many different religions and even different opinions of individuals in the same religion.

Yes even with his wiki editing skills, I consider him Jesus. As Jesus is told to hold the power of god

How will they react? Will they go insane like the others who learned the truth?

First blog is gonna be a rant because I’m PISSED. (Well, not really)

Anyways, I feel like people don’t realize that Kim’s mask is indeed NOT a deer but a dragon. And there’s evidence to prove this. First let’s start with the novel!

(Btw I don’t have specific citations, too lazy rn)

(Part 2 spoilers ahead)

The first hint of this, from what I remember is actually very early on. It’s vague but it’s there, when badger and falcon see Kim’s mask for the first time, they’re a bit thrown off. Obviously confused by how it looks.

This is what they say:

“Eh… is that supposed to be a deer..?”

“Looks more like a roe deer!”

Of course, this can also be seen as them being confused on why Kim’s mask is a deer even though he’s so like… brave in their eyes, or just unaffected. (Deer are seen as frail, skittish creatures, masks are based off of the persons personality, or just themselves yknow.) but with my delusional self, I see it as they also think it doesn’t really look like a deer, so they think it’s a roe deer specifically instead of something else like a dragon. BOOM! First hint!

SECOND HINT!

When KSE meets J3’s past self! In the library, when he first runs into wolf, wolf is interested in his mask, saying something along the lines of:

“Does your team call you dragon?”

Readers can obviously brush over it as wolf also misinterpreting his mask. BUTT they can’t brush over this next one (yet they somehow did..?)

THIRD HINT!! (From the novel)

YONGYONG!! When Yongyong is revealed, he’s an azure dragon, when we see Yongyong for the first time, Kim describes him as having “antlers like a deer”. You’re probably like, ‘well, what does that have to do with Kim’s mask?’ Which presents my next two pieces of evidence.

FIRSTLY, Kim’s body’s origin. Kims GF body is partly made up of the dead golden flower resort mascot. Which was highly suspected to be one of the azure dragons and director cheong stuffed into the mascots at the theme park.

If you look up azure dragon on Pinterest, you can see the proof for yourself. And if you compare it to Kim’s mask in the official manhwa… you get this

TA DA!! They are shaped almost the EXACT same way.

Now, why IS he a dragon instead of a deer.

Well, two reasons:

One, The GF body origin, as I said before, his body is partly made up of the azure dragon golden flower mascot (whatever you wanna call it). As Kim soleum was putting on his mask, the mask probably recognized the origins of the body and followed that more than his personality because dragons have strong presences.

Two, it also does match with his personality!

What’s the personality of a dragon like? (More specifically in Asian mythology.)

If you do some basic research, you’ll find the azure dragon embodies a dignified and compassionate personality, along with holding benevolence and wisdom.

How do these connect to KSE?

• Dignified: this means something that is composed and seems worthy of respect.

• KSE is often seen as someone who remains composed under pressure, many people look up to him.

• Compassionate: showing sympathy for others, caring for them.

• KSE is always trying his best to save as many people as he can from disasters, this one’s obvious lol.

• Benevolence: Basically having kindness behind your actions

• This connects to his compassion, KSE is always doing what he thinks is best for others, even at the expense of parts of him (never his life tho, if yall pay attention, he only does things if he knows he won’t die from it. Just major consequences…)

• Wisdom: Having experience, extensive knowledge and fair judgement about things.

• KSE, of course, knows almost everything about the DER world. He knows things that will take years for others to even get a hint about.

Why is so significant? Why are you stressing over it you hag? Shame on you!

Woah calm down ladies, the misinterpretation actually matters to the story, but realizing the misinterpretation also matters.

In short, the mistake of the dragon mask being seen as a deer reflects Kim’s facade that he puts up in front of others. But in the opposite way.

If you go back to my first hint, PMS and EHJ are puzzled by his mask, because they see it as resembling a deer. They think, ‘why is he a deer? He’s not a deer at all!’ This small mistake reveals what KSE hides from everyone the whole novel, the fact that he’s a coward! Or that, he views himself as a coward. When, in reality, he’s brave, smart, kind and dignified. He misinterprets his own mask because he just doesn’t see himself as that great of a person!

His real, actual hidden self is revealed through his time in the DER world, STARTING with the mask! And this realization is revealed in the last few chapters of part 2! But everyone glazed over it!!

He was never a deer, he was always a dragon. Just no one knew it.
