First Steps - [Closed]
Fifteen months went by so quickly, Ivan simply could not believe it. Right before his very eyes, his baby girl has already grown up so fast. It was like just yesterday she was born. Here she was now, taking her first steps.
Thanks to modern technology, this treasured moment was captured on video on his phone, and posted on social media for all to see. He was so proud, he could barely contain himself. This was his baby, after all, and every moment he spent with her was absolutely precious.
Many kisses were planted on Annie’s forehead, followed by light giggles from the two of them.
This was a moment where everything felt truly real. This was his baby and he was here to watch her grow. No matter how dreamlike the days were, Ivan was grateful times like these reminded him he was already awake.
Blub blub! - [Ivan & Pia] - [Flower Festival]
fishysecret:
Pia was about to compliment his efforts of trying his best when his next words brought her to a complete stop. Flowers with a deep meaning? Her cheeks immediately flushed and she felt her whole face get hot. Why this question?
“I- uh.. Well…”
She stumbled over her words, her thoughts now occupied by a certain Oceanography teacher. One who surprised her with a lavender rose and a tulip among the prettiest arrangement of flowers in a neatly ribbon-tied bouquet. They hadn’t known each other for long, but to already convey these feelings… It left her speechless. And extremely happy.
“I did~”
Finally, she was able to speak normal sentences again. The sudden confession of sorts might have made some things awkward between the two aquatic loving teachers, but she didn’t want that to follow into other conversations when they asked. She needed to play cool. Calm. Collected. Not Pia-like at all.
“O-Oh my!” Ivan could not help but stumble on even just two words, seeing Pia so flustered like that. “Goodness me! My apologies for being so nosy in your personal affa-” Before he could finish apologizing, Pia’s answer reached his ears. With that, his expression brightened; Annie’s did as well, imitating her father almost flawlessly, even if she did not know exactly why he was suddenly smiling.
“I-Is that so, Miss Arabella? Congratulations!” This took him back to when his brother was just a young man, starting out in the ‘dating scene;’ how proud he was, then. “I’m sure who it was from is, of course, a private matter?”
Tender Moment II Open
A letter. The first one Emiko had received from her family in awhile, she had wasted no time in waiting to read it since it got to her dorm.
To our dearest Emiko:
The shrine is lonely without you, and the waterfall looks lovely this time of year. We hope you are surrounded by beautiful things as well, how are your classes? Are you making friends? Do you have anyone special in your life? We plan to send a care package soon–I know the materials you left with were a bit lacking in quantity, and we’ve been setting aside funds to provide you with what you need in your educational life. Your mother was going to add her own wishes, but she’s been in a bit of a slump lately, you know how it gets. But never doubt for a second that we all wish for your health and safety. Keep shining, our little angel.
Having not heard from her family in awhile, Emiko was hit with a wave of nostalgia and loneliness. Her family, thinking of her when she was so far away, focusing on other things–
And then the tears came.
Ivan was never one to just leave someone crying when he saw them. Spotting Emiko in tears filled him with a heavy concern he could only respond to by assessing the situation, to assure she was not hurt or anything terribly serious. Given he had raised his younger brother himself and he was now a single father, this was a good skill for him to have, especially considering he was a teacher as well.
“U-Um... Pardon me, but...” Ivan cleared his throat awkwardly. “Are you doing alright?”
Blub blub! - [Ivan & Pia] - [Flower Festival]
fishysecret:
“She’s a cutie nonetheless!”
Pia gave her a small pat on the back and smiled. She firmly believed it wouldn’t be long until this young girl had the whole faculty wrapped around her little finger. But she also wondered if Ivan would be the only one to have a kid? As far as she knew, he was the only one as of now.
“It might be a good idea to keep her away from anymore loose flowers~”
“We’re certainly trying our best!” Ivan laughed softly, taking time to soothe his baby daughter before continuing with his thoughts.
“So, Miss Arabella, I hope I am not intrusive in asking this, but, well...” Ivan scratched the back of his head. “Have you been receiving many flowers today? Particularly, ah, ones with deep meanings?” Ivan had seen many friendship-based flowers around the school, which were lovely, but he did want to see more variety, to tell the truth. He hoped Pia did not find it odd, but he had assumed Pia was very popular among gentleman, so she seemed about right to ask.
Sleepyhead [Ivan & Pete]
4-pete-sake:
Pete rubbed the back of his neck, “Yeah sorry about that. Some things have come up and I’ve been a little bit lost in thought to say the least.” Pete looked away for a sec and gave a small laugh as his cheeks turned a light red. “I promise I’ll try to get back into the swing of things, mister Aldrich.” Pete hurriedly tried to stuff his backpack once again to go take off to lunch, but to no avail.
“I can go to lunch now, right?”
Even that answer still concerned Ivan. He scribbled down something in his notepad about possibly asking for help assisting students with potential learning disabilities. He was not sure if that was Pete’s problem, but it never hurt to have extra help if he needed it.
“Well, I certainly can’t deny you that, Pete.” Ivan smiled. “Go give your brain the fuel it needs, then!”
Baby Talk || Ivan & Iris
enchantingtales:
“I am.”
She looked over to the teething baby with a smile. Seeing her almost made Iris want one of her own, almost but not yet. A baby and her writing would be too much to handle at this moment along with her full-time position at the school. Now the thought of dropping her teacher position had come up in the event that she had decided to have one, but that wasn’t something that she was looking to do soon. And in order for that to happen, she would need a man first. But everything will come in its own time, until then, she will live her life.
“Truthfully, the reason behind my visit was to see if I could get gift ideas. Being that I’ve only met her recently, I’m not very sure of what she’s fond of.”
“Well, one thing for certain is her love for anything she can put in her mouth.” Ivan chuckled, the sound going along well with Annie’s audible “numnumnum” on the teething toys. “That, and she loves purple, just like her daddy.” He showed off the little one’s purple onesie, patterned by hopping cartoon bunny rabbits.
“She picked this out in the store all by herself!” Ivan lightly covered his mouth to whisper: “By that, I mean she spit up on it and we had to buy it. But I think she likes it just fine.”
The Parasite || Marlin & Ivan
rheinriesling:
The man sounded nearly breathlessly surprised when he asked his question, and Marlin couldn’t help but smirk as he carefully offered Annie back. “Ivan, if that’s what it takes to get you out of your house, I will hire the damn sitter myself.”
Besides…Marlin had to admit that he had been lonely as hell recently. Cooped up in his own apartment with nothing to give him company but grading and a whirlwind of anonymous faces that he never saw again once he’d finished with them after a bar. It…it might be nice to have someone who actually enjoyed his company. Enjoyed his presence. Enjoyed his stories and anecdotes and remembered them for a later time.
That was what friends did, yes? He hadn’t fucking had any since college, it felt like.
“I have a favorite bar. Say the word and I’ll take you there. We’ll have a few drinks, a few laughs, and maybe you’ll remember how it feels to be the young man you are for a little while.”
“Oh, thank you, so much! You have no idea how grateful I am for that offer.” Ivan nuzzled his nose against Annie’s cheek once she was returned to his arms; he did not want the little one to feel left out despite his anticipation for some grownup time outside the house. “Now, ah, I would hate to assume, because, well, pardon my implied language, we all know what is said about assumptions.” He raised a brow for a beat, before continuing. “But, ah, have you had the experience of needing a sitter? You know, meaning this sitter is someone you’ve relied on before?”
The mention of a bar, however, had Ivan running through his head an exact amount of drinks he would be limiting himself to in order to avoid intoxication. He had read that even the scent of alcohol in a parent’s breath could lead to difficulties in parent-child relationships. Annie was so small, but there was still risk.
“That would be wonderful!” Ivan smiled away most of his worries. “And we won’t need to drink too much, I hope?”
Some flowers are Edible - [Ivan & Marlin] - [Flower Festival]
rheinriesling:
Marlin looked up when Ivan drifted into his office in that way that he often did - like he was floating on air. He had his spawn nestled in one arm and his single sunflower in his other hand, and Marlin quirked a brow, not meaning to smile as he did.
“Pure thoughts and adoration, Aldritch?” Marlin teased as he took the flower from his hand - though he looked with some alarm at how the baby lurched forward and snapped at the petals like a hungry animal. Fascinating. A family trait? “You see, this is the reason that I ask you to go out with me on weekends. You’re too pure for the entire school, by far. I know you’re a father, but my word.”
Marlin reached into his drawer and pulled out a yellow rose and a pair of scissors, and he snipped the rose close to the stem before standing up and bringing out a safety pin as well. “Here. A gift.” He leaned forward to pin it to Ivan’s lapel himself - fortunately far out of Annie’s mouth’s reach as long as she stayed on that side.
Ivan took the ‘too pure’ part as a compliment. He did his best, after all, to be a positive role model for his daughter. If he was to be ‘too pure’ in doing so, he saw absolutely no harm in that.
“Well, I do see it as my job to provide good clean fun for both my daughter and students. I’m not entirely sure if it would make me entirely ‘pure’ of a person, though. I am human and, ah, I am not exactly one hundred percent--”
He couldn’t help but blush as Marlin pinned the flower on. This was exactly what Ivan meant by ‘not 100%,’ despite the innocent symbolism of the yellow rose. What could he say? This was the most intimate interaction he has had with anyone in his adult life.
“Th-Thank you.”
Blub blub! - [Ivan & Pia] - [Flower Festival]
fishysecret:
A confident smile served as her reply to his compliment. She had put a lot of work into the crowns she made this past week and now that she can finally hand them out, she was beyond excited.
“A tiny, pink one!”
Honestly, most things she owned were pink. From flowers to clothing to home decor, everything was pink with hints of light blue. Her decorative life revolved around her favorite colors and it wasn’t hard to see that.
“Oh no, silly Annie! Flowers aren’t for eating. I bet today has been an adventure then, huh?”
“Oh, today certainly has.” Ivan agreed, followed by a tiny whimper from Annie, whose stomach has not been pleased with the sudden excess of flower petals. “Poor dear.” Ivan sighed. “I thought she would have learned her lesson after the last, ah, required changes of clothes, but she’s quite determined.”
Despite Annie’s stomachache, she still patted at her father’s flower crown, as if she was expecting another snack.
“See?”
Baby Talk || Ivan & Iris
enchantingtales:
❀ @1dlessthan3 ❀
“I hope that you don’t mind some company.”
Iris leaned against his desk and smiled. After grading a stack of papers, today’s free period had left her with more time than she was used to and had decided to use the rest of it to visit a fellow teacher. Ivan had recently invited the faculty of Harvest Academy to his young daughter’s birthday party and she hoped to get a few gift ideas from him. The blonde had grown quite fond of little Annie.
She tucked a loose strand of her hair behind her ear before she continued to speak.
“I saw the invitation on my desk this morning and thought I’d RSVP in person.”
On Ivan’s lap sat the birthday girl herself, playing with a colorful set of teething keys. Although Annie had passed the worst of the teething stage, she still had a fondness for putting things in her mouth, which often had Ivan worried.
Ivan was good at keeping an eye on Annie, but there was one sound that always managed to pull his attention rather quickly: the voice of his co-worker, Iris. There was something about her that made Ivan’s heart race and face flush. For a while he had been suspicious maybe she had a dog at home, but this... response he had was far different than an average allergic reaction. He just could not figure out what it was.
“A-Ah, hello, Miss Rose! You’re coming to Annie’s party, I understand, then?”
Activity Check 8/26 - PASS :3
Blub blub! - [Ivan & Pia] - [Flower Festival]
fishysecret:
“Ivan! … Or Mr. Aldrich?”
With the other teachers here, she had a hard time trying to keep formalities. They were all around the same ages making them perfect for a close-knit friends group in Pia’s opinion, but that was just her. Friendship was important to her and she wanted to make the most of as many as she could.
She was at her desk when he entered her classroom, working on her project for the festival - flower crowns! Pia stood up with two crowns in her hand and walked over to the brunet and his baby girl.
“Happy flower festival~! These are for you two!”
Pia rested a yellow and pink rose flower crown on Ivan’s hair and a small sunflower and daisy flower crown on top of Annie’s.
“What do you think? I grew the pink roses myself~”
“Ah! Ivan is perfectly fine with me.” Ivan insisted. Although he was formal when speaking to his fellow educators, and even his students at times, it was a bit odd when he was on the receiving end of such formality.
“Thank you so much.” Ivan happily observed his daughter’s fascination with the crowns. “They’re lovely! Do you have a garden at home? We do, but, ah, Annie has been using it as more of a source for snacks...”
Sleepyhead [Ivan & Pete]
4-pete-sake:
Pete packed his bags, ready to just get out of class and go onto lunch, but when the teacher stopped him to talk, Pete guessed he had other plans. “Oh it’s no problem, I mean I was gonna head to lunch anyways, I don’t have class until after that.” Pete set his bag on his desk and looked at his teacher respectfully, but cocking his head. “Is everything okay?” Pete knew what was up most definitely, his grades were a little low in this class, a bit above a 70 he was pretty sure. Pete was also falling asleep sometimes.. and also not doing very good on his assignments… “I’m falling behind a little bit, aren’t I?”
With the mention of lunch, Ivan mentally scratched out the possibility of poor nutrition being a factor affecting Pete’s academic performance, but it was kept in back just in case. Who knew, after all, breakfast skipping was a growing trend among youths, Ivan had read.
“Ah, yes...” Ivan confirmed with a disappointed frown. “I wanted to know if there was any, you know, external factors that are making it hard to succeed in your studies. Stress? Troubles with friends? I’d like to help in any way I can, you know.”
The Parasite || Marlin & Ivan
rheinriesling:
Marlin quirked his brow. He certainly educated students in something - even if it was only to avoid his eyes in the middle of class. But he shrugged and looked back down at Annie, then snorted when she reached for his hair. He dipped his neck just enough that she could experimentally handle one of his longer curls. Probably a mistake.
“Babies are terrified of tree branches,” he drawled. “Unlikely that she knows just how much of a negative influence I am on anyone.” When Annie yanked particularly hard Marlin bit back a swear, then balanced her in the crook of one arm a little too naturally for his tastes in order to reach up and disentangle her fist. “Still. I suppose she isn’t…the worst infant I’ve ever met.”
He met Ivan’s gaze again. “I’m willing to bet this child keeps you in the house more than you’re willing to admit. You should come out with me sometime. Get some drinks and food.”
“Tree branches can be quite dangerous.” Ivan added. “They can fall and poke someone in the eye! I’d say that’s very smart of babies.” He had to keep it positive. Annie’s self esteem was just developing, after all. “A-And you’re a wonderful influence on everyone! You’re a teacher, after all.”
Ivan sighed quietly. Marlin was right about being home a lot. Before Annie, there was his cat as a kitten, and before the kitten was his brother Dirk. He could not deny he was indeed a bit overworked and shut-in as a result.
“You’d really take me somewhere? With a sitter available, I hope?”
Blub blub! - [Ivan & Pia] - [Flower Festival]
“Blublublubblub~!”
“Yes, that’s a fishy sound.”
Ivan was about as amazed with Pia’s aquatic themed decorations as his infant daughter was. The fish all around the room seemed to be a perfect distraction, too, since Annie was not interested in eating any petals at the moment.
“Hello, Miss Arabella.” He waved, with Annie mimicking his hand movements, albeit a bit clumsily. “Happy flower festival!”
@fishysecret
Some flowers are Edible - [Ivan & Marlin] - [Flower Festival]
“Annie, please. These flowers are for Marlin, not for a snack.”
Ivan has repeated this far too many times than he would like. He thought Annie would have learned not to eat flowers after getting a bit sick from eating too many, thankfully non-toxic, flower petals.
Annie was in fact why Ivan had picked sunflowers as the gift flowers for his fellow faculty members. They were not poisonous in the slightest, as confirmed by extensive research, although clearly too much of anything was cause for stomach upset in the little one. Hopefully there would be no trouble when visiting Marlin’s desk, however.
“Hello, Marlin! Annie and I have a gift for you.”
