Sho Kannon – Fire-Gilt Bronze Avalokiteshvara (Japan, Meiji Period, ca. 1880–1900)
This impressive 113 cm bronze statue represents Sho Kannon, the Japanese form of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. Cast using traditional sand-casting methods and finished with mercury fire gilding, the sculpture preserves significant traces of its original gilded surface.
