Episode 409,, Wow!
My first post so be patient....I’ve seen/heard some comments about Claire/Cats performance at those table shots .I watched again and see what they are talking about.
The first sitting happens while Jamie and Bree have not gotten to know each other. Claire seems uncomfortable with Jamie’s affection. The cheek kiss and the hand holding on the table. She realizes that B may think she is disrespecting Frank by showing affection to/from Jamie.
Notice the difference in the later table scene with them sharing honey. These two have creating an obvious bond...Claire just beams at Jamie/Bree. She is so proud of her family. All under one roof for once.
what do you think?
We will be kicking things off on September 23rd, with our favorite Jamie/Claire moment from Sassenach. Our countdown will end on Saturday, November 3rd the day before the premiere!

Where We Begin, Epilogue
Between Jamie’s minor infections a few days after waking and Ellie’s slow weight gain, it took about three weeks to get the entire Fraser family back to Lallybroch. Claire walked up the stone steps to their newly finished house, knowing nothing was unpacked or set up beside the bassinet and the changing table, but not giving a damn. She’d sleep in their home tonight with all three of them under the same roof, even if it meant sleeping on the floor.
4 Months Ago, their wedding night.
Claire never imagined being pregnant on her wedding day, and certainly not as pregnant as she currently was, but as Jamie tucked her into his side while laughing with John, she couldn’t imagine the day any differently.
She wore a simple white A-line dress with a belt of Fraser plain tied around her waist. Jamie wore his kilt and black tailored jacket with a white crisp button down beneath it. They spoke their vows at the Lallybroch chapel at dusk as the stray beams of light penetrated the windowless stone building. Jamie led her through the Gaelic vows as well, and Claire felt the power of their tradition-seeped actions as they said the words many Frasers said before them. Jamie’s arm held her close as his hand cupped her chin, and she felt her hands circle his waist as he pressed a soft kiss to her lips.
That was several hours ago, and now their remaining guests were retiring to the spare bedrooms and bidding the happy couple farewell. Eying her Fraser, Claire felt a heat flush her cheeks as desire sloshed through her veins. Damn hormones, she thought with a grin. Though she desired Jamie often, pregnancy had enhanced the suddenness and severity of her cravings. Her fingernail deftly scratched a path up the back of his thigh and his eyes darkened with understanding.
Within a few minutes, they finished their farewells, and Jamie helped her into the passenger seat of his car. When they turned in the opposite direction of their hotel, Claire shot Jamie a questioning stare, but he remained silent. When he stopped the car, he ran to Claire’s side and led her to the center of a dirt plot.
“Where are we exactly?”
“Well, you see the roped off stakes? It marks where we’ll pour the foundation…for our home.”
Claire’s mouth worked, opening and shutting on its hinge, but words failed her. “Here? I thought you wanted space from Lallybroch.”
He shrugged his shoulder. “It’s about two miles down the road. Far enough that Jenny can’t burst through the front door when’s she pleases.” His grin slipped as he met her gaze. “But, I wanted your opinion before we broke ground. It’s a 15-minute commute to downtown Inverness, and its near to Lallybroch while being ours.” He tipped her chin up so her eyes met his. “What do you think?”
“I…think I love it, Jamie,” she breathed as she stepped closer to him. “Really? We can build what we want right here?”
“Mmhmm. I know we agreed to no’ take an official honeymoon with the investigation pending, but I thought this would be a good use for all your nesting energy.”
“Well, it beats reorganizing the drawers again,” she said as she pressed a kiss to his lips.
“Do you love it? Truly?”
“I do,” Claire answered, as she moved her hand under his kilt and took hold of him. Jamie let out a gasp as he ground his hips forward into her grip, his tongue sweeping across her lower lip.
“Damn it, woman. I was trying to be romantic.”
“You were. But I’d like you to ravage me now.”
“Do husbands ravage their wives? It hardly sounds like the holy act the Bible describes.” Jamie whispered against her ear.
“Perhaps in England they don’t.” She snickered as she backed away from him. “But this wife would rather be treated as your whore at the moment.”
Claire dropped onto her hands and knees and pulled her dress up to her waist, revealing her garter belt, stockings and nothing else covering her slick folds. Jamie growled as he dropped to his knees behind her, running his hands over her bare behind and the tight garter bands running down the back of her thighs. Thank God her doctor removed her from pelvic rest.
“If you’re going to play a whore, I want the sounds that come with it.” He pushed himself inside of her fully and a groan escaped him as her wetness surrounded him. His fingers traced her entrance where his cock impaled her, gathering her dripping fluids before his fingers moved to her clit. She trembled as the pad of middle finger rubbed gentle circles into her nub, and a throaty grunt escaped her.
“Like that, Claire,” he moaned as he began to move inside of her.
Claire dropped onto her elbows, pushing backward when Jamie thrust, resulting in the warm thrumming of his tip against her cervix. He stretched her from this angle, and she felt full and exposed as he pushed her knees apart. When his hands pulled her cheeks apart, she cried out and keeled against the thumb that drifted into her cleft.
“Like that, is it?” He growled as he increased his speed. He didn’t realize he could get any harder until she looked over her right shoulder and met his gaze. Her mouth was open, and the sweetest squeaks and cries escaped her as he rode her.
“Harder,” she gasped. “Please. Harder.”
He sank his thumb into her and watched in awe as she convulsed and tightened her core. She screamed out her pleasure as she came, and her tight pulsing orgasm sent him reeling over the edge. They both collapsed onto their sides, breathing heavily as their limbs sought contact with one another.
“God. I needed that,” Claire rasped.
“Aye,” Jamie breathed out, his chest still heaving, as he caught her eye and smiled. “Happy to serve ye, love.”
Claire smacked his side before snuggling into his chest. He pressed a kiss to her forehead as he held her close, and together they stared up at the night sky whispering to each other of their future home, their future lives, and all the happiness they’d find between those roped off stakes.
Hard to believe that was only 4 months ago. The house was planned and built within 3.5 months, a near impossible feat that wouldn’t have happened without their incredibly talented construction firm.
Claire had only officially picked up the keys that morning, but both she and Jamie were anxious for their own space after weeks at the hospital. He carefully tucked a blanket around Ellie’s sleeping form as he unclasped the car seat carrier and joined Claire on the stone steps.
“What’s amiss?” He spoke softly as his hand rested on her hip.
“Nothing. I’m just…so grateful to be here. Finally.”
He nodded as he looked up at home. “It’s not final though, Claire. This is where we begin, the three of us.”
“I know,” she whispered. She met his gaze and let a smirk cross her face. “Are you ready to assemble the crib then?”
“After our bed is made. God, I miss our bed.”
She chuckled and then let out a shriek as Jamie hoisted her up onto his hip. With his lasses in his arms, Jamie carried his small family over the threshold of their new home and began the laughter that would echo through their walls for years to come.

I’d like to piggy back off of the anon question earlier about what would have happened to Jamie had Claire not intervened. You said what you thought would happen to Jamie (I totally agree!) but what do you think Claire would have done? Stayed in the past or tried to go back?
(For context, in the post that anon is referring to, I said that Black Jack Randall had every intention of killing Jamie in that cell at Wentworth. Had the coos not saved the day, Jamie would have been dead within minutes)
Had Jamie died then, Claire undoubtedly would have gone back. I say this for two reasons.
First - without Jamie, she has nothing to live for. And, without him to protect her, she is incredibly vulnerable. With Lallybroch dangling around her neck. Murtagh could protect her, of course - but Dougal would swoop in and likely try to marry her by force.
Second - it’s what Jamie wanted her to do, when he thought he was dying. When he is recovering at the abbey, and tries to send Claire away - he says that Mutagh will take her back to Scotland, and back to the stones. Jamie knows that this place - this time - is fundamentally unsafe for her, and Claire knows well enough that Jamie is correct.
From the first time Jamie tries to take her back to the stones he tells her:
“Claire,” he said urgently, “it’s your own time on the other side of … that thing. You’ve a home there, a place. The things that you’re used to. And … and Frank.”
“Yes,” I said, “there’s Frank.”
Jamie caught me by the shoulders, pulling me to my feet and shaking me gently in supplication.
“There’s nothing for ye on this side, lass! Nothing save violence and danger. Go!” He pushed me slightly, turning me toward the stone circle. I turned back to him, catching his hands.
“Is there really nothing for me here, Jamie?” I held his eyes, not letting him turn away from me”
From beginning, when Jamie knows the truth about Claire, he understand that his time is not her time - and that only *bad* things can happen to her. One of Jamie’s biggest goals in life is to keep Claire safe and alive.
The question “Is there really nothing for me here, Jamie?” is a valid question- but the only thing truly that can be an answer, in a century that is not her own- is Jamie. If Jamie were no longer, there would be nothing more for her in that century.
It is also interesting to me, at the abbey, I think Claire would have been pregnant with Faith. (Possibly? I think I have the timeline correct..) So if he had sent her through the stones, she would have always had a piece of him with her…. (Which is something that happens, later, eventually, for her. )
👏👏👏
@smoakingwaffles : in Book-verse, Faith is conceived at the Abbey. In Show-verse, Claire is pregnant with Faith throughout her search for Jamie, Wentworth, and the Abbey.
Perhaps I am reading too much into it, but I always thought Jamie’s comment “...promise you will never alone again” (don’t remember ep number) was his knowledge and concern for Claire’s future.

Chapter 1. Chocolate and Ginger (by @whiskynottea)
Hello!
My name is Pongo, and I am the most adorable chocolate Labrador you’ve ever seen, if I may say so myself.
My ancestors were retrievers from the north. They lived in a faraway land, called Canada. You know, beautiful lakes, snow, waterfalls. I’m sure you’ve watched documentaries about it. I certainly have.
What was I saying?
Oh yes. My ancestors. They were trained to bring game back to hunters and this was what they mostly did. That’s why I have a soft mouth. But I don’t do that. Dead birds and rabbits are not my kind of game, thank you very much. Thank God, Jamie – my human – isn’t a hunter. But he does have a small red squeaking ball and I retrieve it faster than any other dog in the park.
Not to boast, but I’m the best. And he knows that, every time I return the ball to his feet, wiggling my tail.
Ah… Jamie. Let me talk to you about him, shall I?
I’ve know the man all my life. Three years and I think I counted more than 1000 days in them. But I might be wrong. I’m a dog after all, not Albert Einstein.
Anyway.
Jamie found me when I was a little puppy, deserted on the street. The people that bought me, they surely didn’t know that dogs bark. And cry. And pee. And poo. I think they believed I was like a moving stuffed animal or something. Every time I tried to talk to them, they hushed me. And when I was lonely at night and I cried… Well, they abandoned me. During winter. In the cold, freezing Glasgow.
Sometimes humans are worse than lemurs. Do you know the lemurs, that steal your food? Not the one that stars in ‘Magadascar’ and likes to move it. The others, the real ones. How do I know what they do? I’m a dog! I love watching TV!
So yes, some humans are worse than lemurs. And I don’t like having my food stolen AT ALL, mind that.
Fortunately, these people left me outside Jamie’s apartment building. He found me crying at night and he took me in. Next day he plastered posters with my picture – and I was looking adorable – and the word ‘FOUND’ on top of my head, but no one sought me. So Jamie kept me. The man was lucky, wasn’t he?
Lucky, but sometimes stupid.
He thought he was funny, but I’m saying stupid. Why? He almost named me Cotton from the Cottonelle toilet paper advertisement! And I say almost, because Murtagh, his godfather, hit him on the head when he voiced this thought. I guess that hitting a human on the head brings some sense back to him, because Jamie named me Pongo after that. And we’ve stayed together in his little apartment in Glasgow ever since.
I love our house. It is such a mess, with canvases around the living room and an easel on the corner, in front of Jamie’s chair. He has many paints and he calls them all with different names. The acrylic paint, the oil paint, the watercolor paint. But if you want to know, they are all the same. And he hates when I eat them. If you ever meet Jamie don’t try to eat his paints. The pencils either – he hates that as well.
Jamie is an artist. And I am a kind of an artist myself, you know. I’ve done this masterpiece with my paws – one purple, one blue, one yellow and one green. It was beautiful. Jamie thought that he might bring something of himself in it as well, so he brushed both hands with black paint and placed them between my paws. It is so good that we hung it above the couch, where we snuggle every evening. Even Jamie’s sister, Jenny, was speechless for a moment when she first saw it. Then she said “Are ye out of yer mind, brother?” She definitely liked it, to think that Jamie got out of his mind when he thought of this. As you may understand, I couldn’t let Jamie take all the fame for our work and I barked that it was my idea. Jenny scratched my ears, acknowledging my brilliance.
Every second weekend, Jamie and I ride to Lallybroch to see Jenny and her family. Being in the car is awful, but I always stick my head out of the window and feel the wind.
Have you ever tried that? It feels GREAT!
Anyway, Lallybroch is a doll. I can be free there, running on the green grass and eating all the wildflowers without anyone yelling at me. Jamie never lets me eat the things I spot in the park. He says it’s not safe. But in Lallybroch everything is safe!
The only human that really understands my happiness when I roll or run down the hill is the little one – wee Jamie. He runs with me – sometimes he rides me but I’m not a big fan of this particular game – and we play together. These weekends are the best. And I get far more treats from everyone, especially when I give them my foot. I don’t know why, but that gets them excited and they make the funniest faces. Wait until I turn around myself, I always think. Everybody is squeaking when I do that trick and Jamie gets so proud that his chest expands so much I believe it will tear his shirt up.
So… yes. My life is great. I guess you love me already but hold your horses. My human is Jamie and I don’t change him for the world.
There’s just one thing…
It would be great to have a mate. All these hours that Jamie paints, I have no one to play with. And I can’t deny that the possibility of my own little furry balls running around the house is quite enticing. I am a grown dog, you know.
As we speak, Jamie’s painting on a black canvas. A series of lines and smudges dot the surface… Oh now he’s huffing, and his red locks have shaded his eyes – that’s always a bad sign, I’m telling you. I think he needs a mate too, to take his hair away from his eyes.
What am I doing right now? I’m lying on my fluffy black pillow, watching out of our long window.
What time is it?
Oh, still four twenty. I have to wait for the clock to chime five o’clock, to take my beautiful black leash and push Jamie to the door so we can go out for our evening walk.
Living with Jamie is usually fun, but when he’s drawing his things paying no attention to me I get so bored!
We have to find company. But if I wait for Jamie to do that… We would stay bachelors for the rest of our lives.
Not that he’s not handsome. Well, he’s not as handsome as I am, but for a human I’d say he’s pretty great. He’s taller than the most, with more muscles. I’m sure he can beat everyone up if I get him into a fight. And the girls, they all look at him like he’s a big catch. He can’t see that, but I can. I’m not a bulldog – no offense mates but you’re not that smart.
But Jamie is stubborn. Have I told you that? Very stubborn. Every time he comes back home from a date and we’re alone on our couch he rubs my belly and says “No, Pongo. She wasn’t the one either.”
Where is this one? I’m getting frustrated.
But wait a minute! If he can’t find her, I will do it! And I will choose my own mate, too. Let me see what’s going on at the street.
Hmm…
Old lady with her little Maltese – no, too old.
Young girl with – Oh why do I even consider it? Too young!
Well, let me see this one. She is… different. The long brown skirt, the turtleneck black blouse… No. She won’t do either.
Now what is this?! High heels, long coat, hair perfectly coiffured… Let me see my mate as well… No. She’ll definitely not roll with me in Lallybroch. I have to say no.
Oooh. That isn’t as easy as I expected! We’ll stay alone in this flat forever!
Just… Wait a minute! What do my beautiful round eyes see?
Oh yes, she’s perfect. Blonde, long legs, perfect eyes…
Let me see the human, too.
Curly brown hair, jeans, plaid shirt…
Plaid shirt?! That’s the one!
Where are they going? They’re heading to the park! We have to hurry up!
Oh God, it’s still four thirty. Jamie won’t let his brushes down until five o’clock. We’re screwed – don’t tell Jamie I said that.
It’s four thirty, but what if it was five? What if I move the pointer just a little bit…
Yes that’s it.
The clock chimes and I’m jumping around Jamie, before going to stand in front of our door.
Let’s go, Jamie! Leash in mouth, paw on the doorknob.
Move your lazy ass!
It’s so good that Jamie doesn’t understand me when I talk like this. He would ban me from going out if he did, I’m pretty sure he would.
Is he coming? Yes, he’s coming. He finally got up from his stool.
Jeans, sweater, long coat… Perfect. That hair, though… Well, hers was not better! She could hide a month’s treats in there!
And off we go! We’re going to meet them!
My perfect blondie, we’re coming for you and your curly wig human!

angst has rubbed off on me….. Culloden Moor
His first bit of note was the void…she was not here and he was not dead.
His eyes stare at the chill, bleak, vast dark of the night. Snow drifts down to cover the dead and those so near to death that their breath is a faint mist on the wind. It becomes a shroud to all who lay here, a clean, but false cover for the evil that has come to this field. The smell of blood, loss, and grief fills the air and his being.
The black cold and pain are pierced by the keen, loss of her. Her name cuts like a sharp knife through his soul. Claire. His Sorcha, his light, but she brings no light, no warm touch, and no balm for his heart, his mind or his soul. She is no more, for she is gone from this time. There is no hope of love, joy, peace, or calm now, she took it with her through the stones to a time of when, but no longer now.
Her ghost haunts him as he aches for her. He sees her soft, full and round with their child, but she fades with the mist that swirls through the moor.
His heart and soul are gone with her. He has been left, no more whole. He does not want to bide in this life and so he will not-he will join her in the grand span that is time, for now, for then, for all time.
Omg. Ouch.
How do you it...also one word thanks!

Chapter 6
Jamie couldn’t believe his eyes. Before him stood a man that he had thought a year and half dead. He had witnessed the blow that felled Black Jack Randall on Culloden Moor. But that confidence didn’t extend to stilling the tense set of his shoulders or the fury quickly rising in his blood. Instead, memories of his own pain at Randall’s hand flashed through his mind. Randall’s threats and misuse of Claire.
Belatedly, he noticed that Claire had risen the moment the door opened. She was looking between the two men, her face displaying her distress over the situation.
“Claire, Darling, I came as soon as I could,” the man began in a polished English accent. “Reggie phoned and said our daughter was ill.” When the man looked up and met Jamie’s eye, his jaw dropped.
“You can’t be serious,” he uttered. “This is him, then? The Scottish Barbarian you dallied with… What’s he doing here now after abandoning you for all this time?”
Claire looked down at Jamie, likely observing the way he had begun to shake with rage at the situation at hand. This man couldn’t be allowed to speak to Claire in such a way. She lifted Brianna from his arms and walked her to the buggy, placing her back in gently.
The man’s eyes followed the bairn in Claire’s arms with a strained expression. For a moment, he looked hopeful in the midst of his anger.
“Frank, we need to talk,” she said. She pulled him out the door by the sleeve. Before she shut it behind them, she turned back. Jamie tried to catch her eye, but she looked only at Faith. “Stay here, Baby.”
Frank followed Claire’s gaze, eyes widening in surprise and recognition at the sight of Faith.
Jamie deflated as the door closed firmly. Frank. The man indirectly descended from Jack Randall. The man Claire had intervened to save, nearly costing her own life in the process.
His heart fell in his chest as he realized that he and Claire had not truly discussed their plans for the future in the several hours they’d had together. Neither had they mentioned their feelings after all this time. Jamie had thought he saw the same passion in Claire’s eyes upon their reunion, but perhaps time had changed her.
Jamie was once able to decipher her emotions more readily than his own, with just one look upon the face he knew better than any other.
But it had been more than a year. Maybe she needed Frank more now. Perhaps she didn’t want Jamie at all. She may have rejoiced at their appearance only for Faith’s sake.
He looked toward his eldest daughter, who had frozen in the middle of her bed. The look of terror in her eyes nearly undid him. He opened his arms to her. “Mo chuisle,” he beckoned.
Faith scrambled to his lap, her face hitting his shoulder just as the tears came bursting forth.
“Da,” she sobbed. She shook in his arms. “Do ye needta hide?” She looked up to meet his eyes. “Will we haveta leave Mama?”
His own shoulders threatened to tremble as he tightened his arms around his daughter and tilted his head to place a kiss on her forehead.
“Nay, mo chridhe,” he whispered. “Yer mam… kens the man. He willna hurt ye.”
Jamie shifted Faith in his arms and stood, crossing the room to peer in at Brianna once again.
His two bairns. He knew the moment he had first seen Faith that he would do anything to keep her safe and content. He had only needed knowledge of his second child’s existence to want everything for her, as well.
Jamie would face any trial of becoming accustomed to a different time, of existing in a world with Frank Randall, of sacrificing his heart in order to see to his daughters’ protection and well-being.
Our daughter, Frank had said. He must have meant Bree. Jamie tried to force images of the three of them happily living together for the past months out of his mind. Would Frank come to consider Faith his own daughter, too? With how many Randalls must his life intertwine?
But how would he share a city, children, with Claire if they couldn’t share everything else? To not hold her as they fell asleep each night and wake with her soft hair in his face? To not tell her all his heart and cherish the words that came from hers?
Jamie wished for her joy, above all else.
He would have to lessen her guilt about their separation. For Claire. Lend sense to it, even as he ached for her.
The tears hit Jamie’s eyes as he fell into the chair next to Brianna’s buggy, Faith cuddled against his chest.
He closed his eyes. May he have the strength not to beg her to choose him.

Claire pulled Frank into the same office she had used to take Mrs. Graham’s telephone call. She turned to face him, crossing her arms over her chest. She took note of the defensive stance he had adapted.
“What are you doing here?” she asked.
“Me?! I get a call that you’re in hysterics at the hospital and my daughter is sick, catch the next flight from Oxford only to find you with him and you ask why I’m here?” His fists clenched at his sides. “And who in the bloody hell is that other child?”
“Enough, Frank!” Any semblance of patience she had was lost. “You know very well I’ve told you where Jamie has been all this time. Whether or not you believed me is of your own consequence.”
He grimaced. “Surely we’ve heard enough of that tale by now, Claire.”
“And you wondered why I haven’t agreed to move back to Oxford with you,” she snorted.
“Claire, I do love you. I’m more than willing to raise our child together,” he hesitated. “Both of them, as there’s no denying where those lovely curls came from,” Frank reached out to run a hand through her hair. She stepped away before he could reach.
“They aren’t your children, and you know that! Faith Fraser. Brianna Fraser, as soon as I can do anything about it,” she told him. “They have a father. The most wonderful I could imagine.”
His face fell at that.
“I can’t be what you want anymore, Frank, and it’s time we acknowledged it,” she said finally. She pulled the gold ring off her left finger and placed it in his palm.
Frank blinked at her in surprise, then his face settled into a scowl. Straightening his hat, he stormed out of the room. “You’ll be hearing from a lawyer, then,” he called over his shoulder.
Claire leaned into the desk behind her, finally allowing herself to breathe. Just as well. Composed and feeling free, she left the room and headed back toward her family.
Opening the door slowly, she observed Faith back in her bed, curled away from the door. Jamie was sitting in a chair next to Bree’s carriage. His eyes were closed and his head upturned, lips moving in supplication.
Jamie looked up at her as the door clicked shut. He wore a pained expression.
Claire took the first few steps toward him, but stopped abruptly when he stood. His eyes were somber and his jaw tense. He nodded his chin toward the door, so she led them into the hallway.
“So ye’ve gone back to Frank then, Nurse Randall?” he sneered.
She froze. This couldn’t be the same man she had just defended to Frank. Couldn’t be the way they would speak to each other now that they were free to be together again.
She pictured the nights they had spent curled together in the encampment for some battle or another, whispering of their deepest fears and desires. For themselves. For Faith. For the other children they wanted to have. For Lallybroch. Her heart tightened as she tried to cling to that image, unable to reconcile it with the one in front of her.
“What?” she blurted. “Jamie…” She leaned to place a hand on his shoulder. He shrugged it off.
“Nay. He willna want to share ye,” he said hotly.
Ice struck in Claire’s heart. Part of her knew that the man who had tried to sacrifice his life for her own protection and that of their daughters would not turn her away so coldly. But the rest was crumbling at his rejection.
“I thought you were dead!” she seethed. “So I did what you asked of me, you bloody brute!”
His brow furrowing, he cast his head to the floor, eyes darting around desperately. He looked anywhere but at her.
“You made the decision for me to leave, Jamie,” she whispered. “You took everything from me, so I did my best to pick up the pieces of what was left.”
Jamie’s shoulders slumped. Before she could stop him, he turned on his heel, bursting back through the door with his kilt swinging behind him.

Faith rolled over in the bed as the door closed, Mama and Da on the other side. She had pretended to be asleep when Da laid her down. But she heard his quiet sobs as she looked out the window of the big room.
Da’s reaction only made her more scared. She thought he would be happy to be with Mama. But something was wrong. She knew that. She hadn’t even looked at her parents as they left the room, worried to see what their faces might tell her.
Sitting up, Faith looked toward the floor. It was a taller bed than she had ever slept in, but she was determined. She carefully made the jump down.
She crossed the room to the buggy by the door. She had gotten a brief glimpse of the bairn inside, and was curious even in her fear about her parents.
Faith climbed into the chair next to the baby’s buggy and stood over it. She peered at the small face inside, eyes peacefully closed and thumb in mouth. She had seen bairns near Lallybroch when she made visits with Mama or Aunt Jenny. Mama would tell her she had been even smaller than them once. Faith found that hard to believe.
As she continued staring at the bairn, its eyes popped open. Faith reached into the buggy, and a smaller hand reached out to grab her finger. This startled Faith, but she didn’t mind. She smiled down at the baby and earned a small one back. She wanted to touch the bairn’s short red curls but remembered that she didn’t always like it when strangers touched her own hair. She grinned as she realized the red hair reminded her of Da’s. He had seemed interested in the baby, too. Maybe that was why.
Faith dropped into the chair and continued to study the bairn while holding its wee hand. She placed her chin in her other hand, wondering when Mama and Da would come back. Maybe they would take the baby back to its mama, or she would come to pick it up. But Faith didn’t mind watching over it until then.
Faith’s head turned toward the door as it squeaked open.
JAMES. SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO YOUR WIFE. Faith. You sweet dear ❤️
This is precious. Love Faith and Bree.
Lovely depiction of these little Fraser lassies. And the grown ups...whew! Take a minute and breathe!
Still haven’t made a ton of progress, but I want to document this thing!
You have caught a beautiful image of Claire here. I look forward to seeing more of you work.
