Social Media Submission: Leaving Utah - Entering Salt Lake City
I know it sounds like a really confusing title but it is true. I have lived in Northern Utah (and I mean almost to the border of Idaho) my whole life. I’ve grown up in small towns that fit one culture ideal that is entirely different than the one identified myself by. From a young age I wanted out, I wanted to find diversity in people, religions, cultures, etc. Well I finally did make it “out”...kinda. I moved to Salt Lake City.
These are some of the main reasons why Salt Lake City is it’s own little island in the bubble that is Utah culture.

May is French culture month in Cuba
French art will take centre stage during May in various venues across Havana.
Every year, the Cuban capital welcomes contemporary artists from this European country.
The Festival of French cinema will run until May 21. This year, the world premiere of the film The Outsider, by the French filmmaker Christophe Barratier will be screened.
Also receiving its premier is the documentary Huracán, directed by Cyril Barbançan, Andy Byatt and Jacqueline Farmer. Huracán tells the story of the destructive forces of hurricanes and their role in the balance of life on planet earth.
This documentary will be joined by thrillers, police stories, biographies, comedies, and dramas with the aim of encouraging dialogue between filmmakers, French actors and Cubans.
Meanwhile, the classic Captaine Conan and La Vie et rien d’autre (La vida y nada más) by Bertrand Tavernier, and Les parapluies de Cherbourg (Los paraguas de Cherburgo) by filmmaker Jacques Demy, among others, will return to the large screen with their national and romantic storylines.
French music in Havana
The American soprano Barbara Hendricks performed in the Basílica Menor del Convento de San Francisco de Asís in Old Havana with a program that featured extracts from the opera Carmen with music by its French composer Georges Bizet.
The well-known American singer (Winner of the 2000 Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts) has invited the saxophonist Magnus Lindgren, the guitar player Ulf Englund, and the Camerata Romeu, which is led by the Cuban Maestra Zenaida Romeu, to take part in her performance.
French art
Music, theater, dance and arquitectura, among other art forms, are being celebrated this May across Havana. Three art exhibitions are taking place in the Alianza Francesa de Cuba in the former Gómez palace in Havana.
Artists and French intellectuals will take part in events such as the International Poetry Festival, Musicabana, and the Casa de las Américas May Theater, as well as the Design Biennial where students from the design schools of Duperré and Boulle in Paris will participate.
At the same time, Paris is celebrating Cuban culture month this May, showcasing the rich and diverse artistic culture of the largest island in the Antilles.
