The first time paint has touched the walls/ceiling in our new house for about 30years
Today was one of our first full days working on the house, a lot of pulling up carpets and tidying up the space. Dan came round and helped us chip away the years of paint that have wedged shut every window in the building. Jo's dad started on the toilet and bathroom getting rid of the tiles and taking the door way out ready to move. Jo spent the day going to and from the tip and I got busy with a industrial sander. The things a beast! It looks like a cross between a steam punk hoover and a abandoned prop for a Dr Who episode in the 70s. Its extremely loud and makes a noise similar to the screechy drone noise Ridley Scott used on the trailer for Alien. I ve never used one before but I got on well with it, as time went on I started to believe that despite only 30 minutes experience I was some sort of sanding protégée developing new techniques and methods as I went. After an hour I fully believed I had the potential to be one of the best sanders in the world if I abandoned everything else in my life and focused on making stuff smooth for a living, during that thought I gouged a 6 inch groove out of a floor board because I hadn’t tightened the screw enough on the roller thing on the bottom of the sander. As the machine went berserk sending sand paper and chunks of wood everywhere I yelled out a profanity so loud our new neighbours in the street heard it (Dan informs me that they laughed about it, so thats all good I dont want to make any enemies......yet). Luckily the groove I ve cut out is right where the bed will be so no one will ever know. After getting help from Dan to replace the sand paper bit on the bottom of the machine, the floors were done, they ve been sanded first with really course sand paper then fine and they are looking pretty swish. We are going to wait for the electrician to finish doing his business before we varnish them.
