In the twenty hours since Leo Reid Celebrini has been in this world, he's been the most fawned over baby in it.
You and Macklin have been obsessed with every (quite literally) little part of Leo.
First it was his little hand wrapping around Macklin's when he'd been standing over you caressing his small hands.
Macklin was immediately ruined, letting out a groan of devastation.
"He already has you wrapped around his finger", you teased quietly.
Macklin let his head drop, but the crooked smile still remained proudly on his face. "He's gonna be the death of me."
Then it was fawning over how much hair he already had.
"If he was a girl, I'd be able to do little ponytails in two weeks tops", you jokingly fantasize.
Macklin chuckled, amused at how equally obsessed with Leo you are.
"Well, we can part his hair funny", he suggests.
"Poor kid doesn't know his parents are idiots", you say as you make funny faces he can't really make out just yet.
After came the fascination with the baby smell.
Macklin had been having some skin-to-skin while you napped. He insisted you rest while he watched Leo.
The sight you woke up to almost made you verbally 'aw'.
Leo was fast asleep on Macklin's chest, his small pink face scrunched up while dreaming. Your boyfriend's arms supported his back, with one hand rubbing circles on Leo's back.
While you watched the pair relax, Macklin caught you by surprise. He ducked his nose down slightly and breathed in the newly settled baby smell.
You snorted when you realized what Mack was doing.
His green eyes widened in surprise at you being awake, but he had a quip ready anyway. "We should bottle the baby smell. We could sell it for millions."
You rolled your eyes with a smile and gestured for him to bring Leo closer.
Upon further analysis, the newborn baby smell was in fact the best thing to hit your nose since those chocolate chip cookies Robyn had made for Christmas.
Inarguably, though, your biggest Leo obsession are his eyes.
Famously, newborn's eyes are bound to change. Over time, blue eyes can become brown and so on.
The first time Leo opened his eyes, your breath got stuck in your throat.
His irises weren't a warm, tender brown like yours. They also weren't an enchanting sea green like Macklin's.
Instead, they were (and are) a striking yet calm azure blue.
Within hours, you and Macklin had waged your bets.
"His eyes will be green. No doubt about it", Macklin huffed with pride. "He's his daddy's mini-me."
There was no denying that Leo did take after his father. His little nose was shaped just like Macklin's and his brows were carbon copies of his father's.
If you had doubted the resemblance for a second, the picture Robyn had sent in the family group chat of a newborn Mack settled the matter.
"Ehh. Don't get too confident. Most babies born with colored eyes end up with brown eyes", you argue.
You both joked around about the matter for a while longer while he fed.
Once he was down for the night, a quiet calm settled over your small family.
"As long as he's healthy, he could have purple eyes for all I care", Macklin admits while he's staring at Leo in the hospital cot.
Your eyes leave Leo to look at Mack.
His eyes are fixed on Leo like he doesn't understand how he could have ever lived without the baby in his life. You get it. You feel exactly the same.
"Gosh, it's crazy how much he's changed things in less than a day", you voice what you'd both been feeling.
His hand wraps around yours. "Y'know, being a dad..it's a thousand times better than I could have imagined."
Your eyes water. "I love him so much", you agree.
Yours and Macklin's lives were forever changed yesterday. Today, you both feel every bit of the love that surrounds such a big change.
You'd known of Dean before you ever met him. Long before you fell in love with him, actually.
You'd heard rumors of the guy whose made his way around campus. You'd hear girls fantasize over his charm and guys fanboy over his puckhandling.
None of the many things you'd heard about him came close to the reality of knowing and loving him.
"Hey, you", he greets you with after kissing you hello.
"Hello, yourself. In a good mood?", you wonder aloud.
He cheekily nods, his hand on your lower back as he guides you to the kitchen. Tucker greets you with a nod as he chops vegetables for brunch.
"Tomorrow's practice is cancelled", he way too happily lets you know. For a man who claims the ice makes him feel alive, he sure as hell is happy to skip out on ice time.
"Ooh. What are you doing then?", you ask before popping a grape in your mouth.
He leans down and tucks your unruly hair behind your ear. "You", he whispers.
On instinct, you redden. Mentally, you roll your eyes. Verbally, you groan.
Tucker fake gags from the counter. "Take your innuendos upstairs, di Laurentis."
Dean flicks him a middle finger but happily leads you to his room.
Instinctually, you burrow into his bed. You're well aware you probably look a mess but something about Dean's bed makes you feel like a hibernating bear.
Dean chuckles when he settles on his bed. "I was thinking movie night tonight. We can go out tomorrow."
You sigh, happy to stay in bed all night long.
"What do you wanna watch?", he asks. His emerald green eyes are fixated on you, like you're a picture he needs to capture.
"Hmmm. 27 Dresses? You remember I told you it was my favorite growing up?", you smile lazily. You remember the endless summer nights that you'd fall asleep to the romcom. A veil of comfort encompasses your entire body when you think of the film.
Dean grumbles incomprehensibly.
You focus your eyes on his suddenly embarassed-looking face. "What?"
He repeats what he'd said a few seconds ago, slightly louder yet still impossible to understand.
"You're mumbling", you inform him.
He clears his throat and finally speaks clearly. "I said I already watched it. After you told me it was your favorite", he finally admits.
A pink tinge colors his sharp cheekbones. His ears are red at the tips and his emerald eyes are looking everywhere but you.
You swoon at his words. "You did?", you ask with a ridiculously large smile adorning your face. It was so sweet, something he had done on his own accord. Not to get something out of it, but to simply feel closer to a version of you.
"It's not a big deal, Yn. I just wanted to see why you liked it. I pay attention, y'know?", he tries to tease.
You lean forward and give him a chaste peck on the lips. Once you're there, he cups the back of your head and deepens the kiss. Your hands are on his chest and his hand slips down to your waist.
When you finally break free, his dimples are flashing proudly.
"That was sweet, Dean", you compliment him.
He rolls his eyes, but takes the compliment. "You deserve sweet, Yn."
You rest your head on his broad, muscled shoulder. "I would have never imagined you to be like this", you admit minutes later.
"How?", he asks with an eyebrow cocked to the sky.
"So...loving. I'd heard about you before I met you and you sounded like this...casual playboy", you continue.
He hums. "I was. Then, I met you."
You wonder he can he just say things that shatter your perspective of the universe so casually.
"I'm happy we met", you concede.
He kisses your hair. "I don't know who I'd be if I didn't love you."
You're not sure who you'd be without Dean di Laurentis by your side, either.

The trauma of your hospital visit left your little family reeling.
You were heartbroken and frankly mystified at how one lapse in self-care could completely ruin your birth plans.
You'd hoped for a natural birth; no epidural or C-sections. Just your baby arriving when your body felt it was time for him to arrive.
But, the fever completely skewed your plans.
The doctor said the longest he felt it was safe to wait before inducing was two weeks.
Tommorow, those two weeks run out and you'll be in a hospital gown with a a bundle of joy in your arms.
You know you should just move on and feel grateful baby Leo wasn't harmed by your stupidity, but you can't help but feel dismayed at the turn of events.
You didn't plan this pregnancy, but you felt a sense of control when planning the birth. Getting that ripped out of your hands hasn't been easy.
Macklin, on the other hand, felt guilt akin to that of the sole passenger that survives a plane crash.
The fact that he was across the country, happy-go-lucky, looking at his future with a grin on his face while you were feverish and in pain drives him crazy. Had something worse happened to you, he would never have forgiven himself.
You remind him of that every time you catch him looking at you with regret when he thinks your attention is elsewhere. He'd been there when you really needed him, and that's that. How could he blame himself for not helping when you hadn't ever realized you needed help?
But, besides the emotions lingering from your sudden illness' impact on the family, you two are as ready as you'll ever be for Leo's birth.
The baby bag's packed, your clothes are set out for the drive to the hospital, and when Leo gets to his home for the first time his nursery will be completely ready for him.
You're letting toner pads sits on your skin and waddling around the house when you catch Macklin's figure looming over Leo's crib.
Every time you walk into the nursery you feel the urge to hold your breath. This nursery, your dream nursery, is perfect.
The walls are a sage green, but the room has accents of teal encompassing every nook and cranny.
The mobile is teal with plush sharks and hockey sticks alternating on the device. (The story behind the mobile makes you tear up even as your body is cold with pre-Cesarean appointment nerves).
The crib's bedding is striped green and teal, the perfect place for your baby to rest after a long day of...crying. The rocking chair's cushion is polka dot teal with a green background.
And, inarguably your favorite part, the changing table. It's a deep mahogany color, with a green cushion for little Leo. It's not the most creative part of the nursery, but it was the first thing you both bought for it and your heart's claimed it as your favorite ever since.
"Mack?", you softly call after him. Your swollen hand rests atop your bump like its second nature.
Macklin startles a bit, but gently smiles at you. "Sorry. Got lost in my thoughts", he admits.
You waddle over ungracefully. "What have I told you about overth-", you begin the lecture you've gone over a dozen times each day since you've gotten back home.
Macklin interrupts you. "No, no. I'm just thinking that...in like two days he'll be here. He won't just be a thought or a shape on an ultrasound." He sounds almost breathy as he speaks, the same way he probably sounds after a long shift on the ice.
You let out a shaky breath. "It's crazy, right? Nine months flew by like that and now we're here."
He pulls you closer, and you settle your head on the crook of his neck.
You both stand there for a few minutes longer, as if willing time to stop just long enough to catch a breath.
"Bed?", you quietly ask him.
He nods and kisses the crown of your head.
You both walk hand in hand to your shared bedroom. You take the toner pads off your skin and immediately nestle into bed.
You struggle to keep your eyes open, but manage to stay awake until Macklin sinks into bed.
"G'night", he beats you to it.
"'Night", you whisper back.
He scoots you closer to him, careful to not tighten his arms around your swollen belly too much.
As his fingers trace circles around your bump, you fall asleep to the thought that your last night as a couple was perfect in the simple way only you and Macklin can manage.

At 9 a.m. on the dot, your alarm rings.
Two minutes later, Macklin's alarm rings.
When you move to stop the alarm, your eyes glaze over as you read '👶🏻 C-section Time!'
Across the bed from you, Macklin does a similar double take as he stops his alarm.
The reality of today sits heavy on your shoulders. In two hours, your life will never be as easy at is now. You'll have a baby to raise and a family to care for.
"Ready?", Macklin asks. He looks nervous, the smile on his face not resting as sure as it usually does on his boyish features.
You nod. "As ready as I'll ever be", you murmur back. He gave you a quick peck and finally got himself ready for the day.
You two went through you routines as usual. Macklin made himself breakfast and got the baby bag in the car. You showered, put on your loosest, most comfortable outfit, and called Minnie. She was so excited to talk to you before you got to the hospital you're certain she woke up poor April across the hall. She wished you well and set your nerves at ease. The way only someone who knows you like the back of their hand can.
"Baby?", Macklin called you from the kitchen.
"Yeah?", you called back from your vanity.
"You ready?", he asks at the door of your shared bedroom.
You turn your head back and smile. "Yeah. Help, please", you ask before he gently lifts you off the bed.
He chuckles, but in an instant he's right next to you.
Once you're up, you waddle to the car with Mack at your heels.
The ride to the hospital is calm. If Macklin noticed your leg shaking the entire time, he didn't say a word.
At the hospital, you check in.
Within the hour, nurses collect you and Macklin. You're wheeled up to a room where they verify your health history and make sure you've been alright since you've last come in.
Your nerves really pick up when they start an IV and get started on other pre-Cesarean procedures. You're so nervous you start blabbing about random nonsense to the nurse. When she leaves, the chatter is then aimed at Macklin.
He reaches for your hand and kisses your unusually cold palm. "You're okay", he comforts you.
He breaks through your hyperactive, nervous exterior for that moment.
It starts all over again when you're given your epidural. Macklin's face turns ghostly when he sees the needle get inserted so close to your spinal cord.
"You can't make that face, Mack", you grunt out.
He tries to school his way too honest facial features, but fails upon seeing the doctor place the needle on the tray.
"I think I'll just look at your face during it all", he admits shakily.
Thirty minutes later, Macklin is completely transformed. His jeans and a tee are covered by scrubs, his Dunks wrapped up in shoe covers, his chestnut locks in a hairnet, and mouth covered by a face mask.
Meanwhile, you've resolved to saying the alphabet backwards in your head to remain calm.
The surgeon and his crew greet you. They let you know they'll be starting in a minute.
Macklin holds your hand firmly. You can't see his smile or even a nose scrunch, but you still feel like you can read his emotions.
You just have to stay strong. Luckily, your pillar is here with you.
After a second warning that they'll be starting the procedure, you breathe in and out. Macklin guides your breathing, allowing you to slowly relax.
You don't feel as much as you thought you would. You feel pressure build as the surgeon works to get baby Leo out safely, but you don't feel any of the intense pain that a natural birth would have assured.
Macklin's eyes are on you the entire time. You've noticed he hasn't peered down to where the surgeon's working but you don't mind. It's for the best that your baby's father doesn't faint before he can meet him.
After half an hour, your entire body shifts. The hushed voices of the medical staff grow and Macklin's hand tightens around yours.
A warbly high pitched cry breaks through the cold OR. Your breath catches at the sound.
Your warm brown eyes meet Macklin's watery green irises.
The next moments, Leo's first, pass you in a strangely tender haze.
They clean him off, place an ID band around your wrist and his, and cut the umbilical cord.
Your world stills when Leo's small body is placed on your chest.
"Hi, baby", you murmur in amazement.
Macklin bends down and places a finger on Leo's impossibly tiny back. "H-hey, buddy. Mom and dad here- we love you", he manages to get out.
Your first few moments as a family are nothing short of perfection. The perfect start to your wonderful little family.

synopsis: your family business is an animal shelter. it's all business as usual...until you meet the cute guy being filmed by a dozen cameras for some promo. what will happen when the cameras are off?
requested: yes! see above ⬆️ feel free to request some more ideas, this is so cute and creative :)))
a/n: is it crazy to write this knowing full well im petrified of dogs 😭
'L/n's Humane Canine Society' has been in the family for three generations and its your pride and joy. Your biggest dream is to one day take over the shelter and keep it in the family.
Recently, the shelter hasn't seen many visitors.
That's probably why your dad was so keen on the San Jose Sharks coming in and promoting the place.
Apparently, this Shark team was a big deal. Not that you would know. Or really care.
But, today you'll have to do a whole lot more than care for these players. You'll be on camera acting as the guide for these athletes while they charm the local audience into adopting some of the shelter's pups.
You try to remind yourself of this as they all get out of a car and walk towards the storefront.
You mentally hype yourself up before putting on your 'customer service voice'.
"Hi, guys! L/n's Humane Society is so happy that you guys are going to be here today with us", you voice out the pre-written intro.
The three guys in front of you smile at each other.
"You do know the cameras aren't on yet, right?", the tallest of the three says.
You redden. "Oh. My bad", you rub at the back of your neck.
The blond blue-eyed one of the trio chuckles. "Will. That was Dickie. This is Mack", he says pointing out whose who.
You nod, immediately throwing away the useless information.
"Cool cool. Well, my name is Yn L/n and I'll be one of the volunteers helping out today", you introduce yourself.
You walk ahead of them, feeling one pair of eyes stuck on you.
"L/n? Like the shelter's name?", he asks.
"Yep. Family-owned", you smile. Pride floods your veins every time you talk about the shelter.
They all hum in acknowledgment.
You nod at the two other volunteers to get closer. Well...your cousins Bella and Shayna who are just here to get their volunteer hours in.
"So, before we begin, I'll split everyone up. Shayna's with Sam. Bella's with Macklin. And I'm with Will", you read off the instructions your dad left you.
You see a triumphant look in Will's baby blue eyes and make a small note of it.
Once the three of you are split up, fliming begins.
You shoot your practiced intro with Will at the shelter's entrance. His eyes are on you the entire time, not flitting towards the camera once.
You cough after the intro to break him out of his trance. "Ookay. Let's keep going", you try to move on.
He finally turns to the cameras with a confident smile. A very attractive, yet not at all distracting smile. "Of course, the guys and I are here for the pups. Yn here will lead me to them."
A small smile blooms on your face. Will immediately notices the grin and a sense of pride at being the one who got you to smile at that flooded his senses.
You two walk for no longer than a minute, attempting to create some distance between Will and the other sharks for video's sake.
"Here we have all of our long term doggos. This here is Strawberry; she's our oldest dog. At seven years old, its not the most likely that she'll be adopted. But, we still hold onto the hope that her forever family finds her", you explain as you pet Strawberry.
You move onto the next dog. "This one is Nirvana", you begin.
Will looks like he's fighting back his laughter.
"He's two and a Siberian Husky", you finish explaining.
"Why the name?", he quietly asks. You don't think the question's for show because he asks at a whisper.
"My dad loves Nirvana. Calls them the best band since The Beatles. Everytime Dad would play Nirvana at the shelter, this one would wag his tail out of happiness." A smile completely overtakes your face with your nose scrunching and everything as you tell Will this small story.
In that moment, with your hair messily picked up and wearing your plain volunteer garb, you look prettier than a supermodel to Will.
As he's thinking so, you've moved on to another dog. He only realizes this when he sees an expectant look on your face.
He snaps back into the moment, trying to forget all those thoughts that had plagued his brain.
After thirty minutes of talking about the dogs, the situations they'd been rescued from, and how people can adopt them; you take Will outside.
Macklin and Sam are already out there, waiting on the two of you (a bit impatiently judging by their legs shaking against the metal bench).
"About time", Macklin nudges Will.
Will scoffs at Macklin, but once you've asked for everyone's attention he dons a smile.
"We wanted to do something fun for our special guests", you start. Will hoots and Dickie hollers. Macklin claps a few seconds too late which prompts Dickie to nudge him.
"We're gonna bring our younger doggos out to see which Shark they like best. The Shark that gets the most puppies to crowd around them wins a special prize", you announce like a good Alex Trebek copycat.
The guys go into three seperate parts of the lawn, creating distance between themselves.
Shayna and Bella are inside with the pups, waiting for you to open the door to unleash the madness of a dozen way too hyper and playful canines.
When you're certain the guys are settled, you countdown and open the door.
Upon the door opening, there is a clear winner.
You're not sure if he's got a stick of beef jerkey in his pocket or if he's cast some alluring spell on the dogs. Regardless, Will wins by a longshot.
Ten of the twelve pups have made themselves at home on him. He's giggling, happy as a kid in a candy store at the turn of events. Three pups are in his lap, four are running circles around him, one is in his large hands, and the rest are perched on his Jordans.
You genuinely laugh in disbelief.
Macklin and Sam are grumbling like a pair of way too competitive sore losers.
Which is sorta what they are right now.
"Seems like we have a winner. The Shark with the best puppy-handling abilities is Will!", you say with a way too big smile.
Will notices the way you're looking at him and a pinkness settles on the apples of his cheeks.
If you didn't know any better, you'd say he's blushing.
"I demand the refs look at the footage. No way I lost that bad", Dickie interjects with a mock angry tone.
"The game's rigged", Macklin offers.
"I should be getting congratulated, not crapped on", Will rolls his eyes.
"Congratulations, Will. And you two...better luck next time", you console.
Afterwards, the Sharks finish off their video with parting remarks and a reminder to stop by the shelter if viewers are looking for a pet.
The guys are in high spirits after wrapping up filming relatively early. They invite Will to lunch at a nearby Italian spot.
He tells them to give him a few and lingers around for a while longer.
"It was nice meeting you", you say as a goodbye.
He refuses your goodbye. "No way, Yn. I won the challenge. Where's my prize?" He smirks.
Oh. You were kinda hoping he'd forgotten about that.
All your dad could think to give the Sharks as a gift was this sorta weird sorta charming plushie. A plushie would be okay if it was just that and not a strange mishmash of a shark body with a dog head.
Where he found it is beyond you, but you're certain you don't want to know the brand behind such a monstrosity.
You nod and sneak away into your dad's office. "Close your eyes", you tell him.
He does so with no question.
His outstretched hands are suddenly full of the insane stuffed animal(s?) meant to be the prize.
"Don't laugh. Open your eyes", you say with a grimace.
When he opens his eyes, they widen with a mixture of emotions dancing around his baby blue eyes. Delight, astonishment, and wonder swirl around in his expression.
"Well, thank you", he gets out before he doubles over in laughter.
You can't help but join him when the absurdity of the entire situation sets in.
Once the laughter subsides, a comfortable silence settles over the pair of you.
"While I appreciate...this prize, I had something else in mind", he starts.
"Yeah?", you ask. You have no clue what he could be going on about, but the shy smile on his pretty face intrigues enough to find out.
"Your number", he finishes. His ears are red but the smile on his face can only be described as confident. Something about that earnest combination made you swoon.
You decided to play with him for a second. "Oh! You want to adopt a dog? That's more a prize for me, but thank you", you say with a glimmer in your eyes.
"I-I, well", he starts when you interrupt his stammering with a wild laugh.
He's confused for way longer than should have been possible, but he joins you when he realizes.
"Sorry, I had to", you finish laughing. "Let me get your phone real quick."
He smiles and hands it over.
Will's certain he'll remember you like this until the end of time. Brown hair tousled, chocolate eyes crinkled, and a small smile playing our rosy lips.
"I'll text you", he promises.
"And maybe I'll text you back", you tease.
He stands there for a second too long taking you in.
Suddenly, Macklin walks into the shelter and scoffs.
"Dude! We've been waiting for you. C'mon", he sounds overly annoyed. It makes your smile widen.
Will's soft eyes cut to Macklin quickly.
"Guess I've gotta go. See you?", he offers.
You nod and mumble a goodbye.
In the last second, Will gives you a parting hug. His black hoodie is soft against the arm that you wrap around his neck. He smells warm, like a cozy night in.
When he steps back from the hug, your whole world shifts.
He went from being a promotional athlete meant to bring feet into your family business to a whirlwind of possibilities. He's all your private, too-close-to-the-heart wishes wrapped in a pretty blue-eyed bundle. He's a maybe that could change everything in an instant.
Most of all, he's the guy who spends all day coming up with the perfect date idea (just in case you agree to it).
He's the guy who sends a good morning text the next day.
He's also the first guy in years to get your heart racing.
Who could have known Dog Adoption Day would turn into a day you'd look back on fondly for years to come?
All because the blonde, blue-eyed Shark was paired up with you. All because he saw in you what you saw in him; a possibility.
YAY youre back, the future is baby blue (perfect name btw) is giving me life. I had an idea after the last fic... disclaimer I love angst and I totally get if youre not comfortable writing about this but:
What if y/n feels ill and Mack notices, it gets worse and worse and he is getting more worried until he decides they need to go to the hospital urgently (he carries her to the car.. maybe she fainted?) and everything ends up being alright, but its quite dramatic, she's hooked up to IVs and they have to stay overnight
Maybe a vulnerable moment where she cries and he is her strength. I'd love a long one if you have the time!!!

Last night, you'd fallen asleep early. Your head was pounding and your body had been sore for days.
You excused it all under the guise of pregnancy symptoms.
Now, this morning, you're not sure you can say the same thing.
You woke up sweaty and feeling trapped in your sweat set. You're so certain that someway somehow the termostat got raised that you walked out into the living room in a delirious daze.
72 degrees. Just how you left it last night.
So, you changed into looser, cooler clothes. It was probably your clothes.
But, even then you felt crappy.
You didn't want to admit it, but you texted Robyn letting her know.
Yn: Hey. Sorry to bother. Been feeling bad for a few days and now I think I've gotten a fever. Don't tell Mack until I'm sure. Please.
She immediately replied. Which is sorta worrying considering it's 2:30 a.m.
Robyn: Please check your temperature and get back to me, Yn. A fever during pregnancy is fairly common, but its worrying.
You took your temperature the second Robyn told you to. When you see the number on the thermometer, you almost wish you hadn't.
Yn: 103.4 F.
Yn: I'm scared Robyn.
Yn: What do I do??
Robyn: Stay put. Rick and I are on our way.
You change into somewhat suitable outside clothes and drink a glass of water in the short time it takes for Macklin's parents to get to your family apartment.
You've never been more grateful that Macklin insisted you live close to his family than you are now.
A series of hurried knocks cause you to get up. You stumble a bit (loudly) and hear a gasp from behind the door.
You open the door and immediately receive appraising glances from worried faces.
"Yn, honey. Why hadn't you called?", she starts.
Robyn rushes to your side and puts a hand to your forhead. If you weren't so feverish, you'd probably focus on how Robyn is too much like the mother you never had growing up.
Instead, you can barely muster up a response. "So sweaty. Sick. Sorry."
"Honey, we need to get her to the hospital ASAP", Rick snaps Robyn out of her maternal haze.
She wraps her hand around your shoulder and helps you up. Rick takes your other side and mirrors her actions.
"Text Macklin", Rick murmurs to his wife while he tries to get you sat in their SUV.
"No! Don't. He's busy", you manage to say.
The pair exchange pitying looks, but they don't falter. "Yn, dear, we have to. He needs to know what's happening. Just in case", his words cause you to blanche.
Your mind takes you to four days ago when Macklin departed on his trip to San Jose. This was supposed to be a fruitful time spent apart. He was supposed to get a tour around the facilities and talk to some big people from the NHL camp. You were ready to spend your last few days alone before the baby came nesting.
It was supposed to be so easy.
Why can't things ever be that easy?
Checking into the hospital is a blur. Your name, age and date of birth are thrown around in conversation. You're put in a wheelchair and wheeled right into a room before you can think to tell Robyn and Rick to not call Macklin again.
As you're getting put up in a suite, you don't realize Robyn's already on the phone with Macklin.
"Mack, honey?", she starts.
He hums, not really paying much attention. To Macklin this was probably just a good night call.
He hadn't read the various texts his parents had sent him. His dinner with the GM of his new team and other important folks meant he couldn't be on his phone at all.
"I don't know how to say this. Don't freak out, okay? You can still finish up everything in California before you're needed here", she beats around the bush.
Macklin's curiosity gets the better of his manners. "Mom. What are you talking about?"
She lets out a shaky breath that stops Mack in his tracks. "Yn. We had to drive her to the hospital", she begins.
He's certain she says more, a lot more probably, but he didn't hear a word of it. His mind is going a mile a minute and his heart rate has gone from 0 to 100 in the matter of nine words.
She tries to snap him out of the wordless trance he's in but fails twice before she succeeds. "Macklin! Are you there?"
"Yeah, uh, sorry. I didn't hear anything you said after hospital. Is she okay?! The baby?"
"They're running tests on them now. She woke up with a fever. She didn't want to worry you...but I know you, baby. You would have wanted to know", she informs him.
"Yeah, you're r-right. Thanks for calling, Mom", he starts. "Is she awake? Can I talk to her?"
Robyn peeks her head into the room and her heart stops when she sees you. Your face that's usually so full of life and peppy is suddenly devoid of energy. You're sleeping, but instead of looking restful you look even more exhausted than you did when you were awake.
"She's asleep, honey. I'll call you when she wakes up, okay?"
He nods, then realizes his mom can't see him. "Yeah. Thank you again. I-I don't know what I'd do if she were sick alone", his breath gets caught in his throat at the mere idea.
"I know, Mack. Just...try to relax. We're here and she's got the best medical care in Boston", Robyn tries to soothe him.
But, how could he relax knowing the love of his life was sick in a hospital bed without him while carrying his child?
He knew he couldn't finish out this trip. He'd have to cancel on every obligation he'd flown across the country to fulfill. He'd probably lose some respect and several opportunities.
But, nothing could compare to being with you while you're in such a vulnerable state.
He let out a sigh of relief when he realized the next flight is at 6 a.m. the next morning.
Just one more night without you.
A few hours until he could be by your side. The way he should have been all along.
𑣲⋆。˚𑣲⋆。˚𑣲⋆。˚𑣲⋆。˚𑣲⋆。˚𑣲⋆。˚𑣲⋆。˚𑣲⋆。˚𑣲⋆。˚𑣲⋆。˚𑣲⋆。˚𑣲⋆。˚
When you wake up, you're greeted by a litany of surprises.
For one, you don't feel so delirious anymore. Your head isn't pounding and you feel human again. (Well as human as being eight months pregnant can ever allow you to feel.)
For another, it's night. You realize in that moment that you've been asleep for way longer than a night.
And not least of all, you're greeted by Macklin's worried face. Not a nurse or Robyn, but your boyfriend.
"Hi, baby", he whispers. He's looking at you like you're an injured puppy whose become scared of every man that comes across it.
"Hi", your groggy voice replies.
"How are you feeling?"
A dry chuckle comes out of nowhere. "I've been better", you admit.
He looks at you. You're paler than you've ever been and this is the weakest state he hopes to ever see you in. With IVs running through your arms, medical bracelets adorning your wrist, and a weak hand resting on your large bump; the sight of you conflicts him.
He loves you so much. More than he thought was ever possible.
But, you scared the living shit out of him.
How could you have been sick for almost five days and not said a word to him?
His head drops onto the hospital. You suddenly sit very still. "Please don't do this to me again, babe", he pleads.
"I don't think I can promise that I'll never get a fever again", you nervously laugh.
He lifts his head. His normally bright green eyes look cloudy and pained. A mountain of hurt can be seen in those green irises.
"You can't not tell me things, Yn. Mom told me you'd been sick since Wednesday. We've called a dozen times since then. Not once did you tell me you felt off. Why?"
Your blood runs cold at the sternness in his voice. "I didn't want to worry you, Mack. I-I wanted you to focus on yourself for once. Not on me or Leo."
"My focus will always be you and Leo, Yn. Being a hockey player is my day job. It's my dream, sure. But, my future is with you guys. Don't forget that", he reminds you.
You nod and place your cold hand on his warm one. You wish you could go back a few days and knock some sense into yourself. But, you can't. The only thing you can do now is be grateful that Robyn and Rick took care of you until Macklin could.
Macklin lies his head gently on the crook between your shoulder and your head.
The time that passes between that tender action and the cold knock on the hospital door isn't clear. But, when the knock rings through the room, you both sit up straight.
A physician with a clipboard walks in. "Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Celebrini. Results from all the tests we've run have come back."
Macklin stops rubbing your knuckles and you feel as if you've stopped breathing.
"We have good news and bad news", he continues.
Your heart drops and the tentative smile on Macklin's face does too.
"Good news is that Yn will be kept overnight for further observation, but if the tests done tomorrow morning appear as they do now, she will be free to go home."
"The bad news?", Macklin asks.
You're happy he's spoken since you're not sure you can bring yourself to speak right now.
"The fever experienced has caused cervical dilation. At eight months pregnant, this is not optimal. Your cervix has dilated four centimeters", he explains.
You find yourself speaking. "What does that mean?"
"The likelihood this pregnacy will reach full-term is low. We should prepare ourselves for a premature birth and a possible cesarean", he finally finishes.
Suddenly, the world spins.
A C-section? Premature birth?
"B-but the baby will be okay. And so will Yn?", Macklin grasps at straws.
"As of now, both mother and baby are perfectly healthy. I advise routine check-ins with the OBGYN and to consider booking a C-section appointment", the doctor directs.
The look that you and Macklin share will haunt you for days to come.
The possibility of the rest of the pregnancy going exactly how you wanted it not to could possibly haunt you forever.

You can't remember when you feel in love with John Tucker.
But, you can remember the many moments leading up to then.
The day you met him, for instance.
You'd been invited to the campus- famous frat Halloween party and coordinated a costume with Dean, your childhood best friend.
You're an angel, he's the devil. Awfully uncreative, but pretty easy to make sexy. And you and Dean know how to make just about anything ooze sex appeal.
You arrived to the party (fashionably) late and can feel eyes on you.
You're halfway through greeting the Logans when a drink spills on you and a gasp cuts through the loud party atmosphere.
So, as it turns out, there was a guy at this party who wasn't staring you down.
A very attractive, half-naked, curly-haired someone.
He's looking awfully apologetic so you cut the sideye you were going to give him short. "It's okay", you say as you attempt to stop him from grabbing a handful of tissues to clean you up.
"God! It's my bad. I was just distracted by Beau in the kitchen and I wasn't watch-", you interrupt him.
"Like I said, you're good", you wink at him. His hands are dangerously close to your cleavage in an attempt to clean you up. He immediately lifts his hands and wrings them out.
He apologizes again before he scrambles away. In the opposite direction of where he was headed, you note.
"Hey, Yn! The..messy angel to my insanely sexy devil", Dean looks you up and down.
You laugh. "Ha ha. Yeah, you can thank the guy dressed as a bee."
Dean snorts at this. "Tuck? Poor guy."
"Who is he anyway?", you ask faux-nonchalantly.
Dean eyes you curiously. "Why? Tryna add another one to your roster, Ms. L/n?"
You huff at his audacity. "Pfft, as if I'd mess with one of your guys. You're all trouble."
Dean playfully flicks you, but he leaves you to your devices anyway.
The second time you'd seen 'Tuck' had been pure coincidence. But, you're certain its the time that got your curiousity truly piqued.
He'd been lifting weights (and man could he lift) when you entered the gym.
You spotted him the second you entered, but you were certain you weren't going to cross paths so you didn't speak up.
Yet, 30 minutes later, during your 5k at an incline of 8, Tucker took the treadmill next to yours.
You could feel his eyes on you, unlike the day you'd first met.
Maybe he was trying to place where he recognized you from.
You beat him to the chase.
"A 2.8 speed? Aren't you hockey boys known to be fast?", you ask with a single glance in his direction.
"Just warming up. You'll see", he says. You can tell he feels challenged, competitive as ever.
He adds just .2 to his mph and you snort. "You're probably faster in bed."
He reddens. "No wonder you're Dean's friend", he says under his breath.
You laugh, surprised at his quip. "Touché."
A few minutes with no conversation pass. Just tired breaths and quick feet on the machines.
He breaks the silence first. "What's your name, anyway?"
He's eyeing you up and down, like staring at you will make you any easier to understand.
"Geez, take a girl out before you eyefuck her at the gym", you flirt. You play-fan your face and laugh at his eye roll.
"Y/n Ln. I'd ask for your name, but...", you trail off.
"But, what?"
"There's no need, John Tucker."
"Stalker much?", he nervously laughs.
"Don't feel too flattered. It's written on your shorts", you point.
He looks down and of course you're right. (Could the ground swallow him up right now or would that be asking for too much?)
You brought your focus back to your treadmill after that and increased the incline. His eyes were on you, but yours weren't on his.
It's the game you play with every guy you're interested in.
And you don't play to lose.
He nods at you when he stops his treadmill and you wink back.
You began to open up the third time you both saw each other.
It should have been obvious that the others saw something in the way the two of you looked at each other that neither of you saw.
But, if you two weren't going to notice the palpable chemistry, the rest of the gang would force you to.
It started with Garrett.
"Sooo...Hannah's pretty drunk, y'know? Can't leave her alone when she gets like this", he excused himself with an awkward grin.
Tucker gave him a confused look and you gave him a bored nod.
Garrett ignored both of you and instead gave Dean a side eye.
Dean got his cue. "Yeah, uh, Allie's probably singing an Adele song with Hannah right now. I should go and, uh, cut that short."
Dean stumbles off after Garrett, snickering about something his captain said.
Beau doesn't waste a single second. "Yeah, well, Jo has an early morning and she wants me to drive her to her casting call. Bye!", he calls out.
"It's only twelve!", Tucker calls out after him.
Beau pretends to not hear him and joins the other two.
You and Tucker are left behind in a way too large booth with only each other as company.
"Soo-"
"Soo-"
You both start.
The absurdity of the situation causes you both to dissolve into laughter.
"They're not very discreet", you comment.
Tucker shakes his head. "They wouldn't know how to be discreet if their lives depended on it."
A comfortable silence settles on the pair of you in the awfully loud, packed Della's Diner.
"Y'know, we keep coming across each other", you smile.
He hums in acknowledgment. "So, we should get to know each other, you mean?"
"Honesty game", you offer.
"Am I supposed to know what that means?", he asks with a cocked eyebrow.
"It means we answer everything the other asks truthfully no matter what", you clarify.
"Ok. When was the last heartbreak you experienced?", he starts off strong.
"I break hearts, babe. Not the other way around", you try to lie.
He ticks his tongue. "None of that BS. Honesty game", he leans in closer.
Maybe it's the closeness. Maybe it's that John Tucker isn't the kind of person you'd lie to. You try to tell yourself any excuse to explain why you so readily supply him with one of your deepest traumas.
"Senior year of high school I got cheated on. With my sister", you reveal.
Seeing the expectant smile on his face drop into subdued horror made you burst into laughter.
He scrambled to get away from the rawness of your honesty. "Shit-I'm sorry. I didn't kn-", he began.
"How could you? I haven't told anyone. You're the first."
He's looking at you differently, like you've given up a piece of your heart to him and he's the only one who can keep it safe.
Which, technically is what just happened.
"Well, I'm honored", he smiles.
You decide to be brave in that moment. You slip out of your booth in your way too tight halter top and your leather skirt. You scoot into Tucker's side of the booth.
You can hear him hold his breath, like your proximity to him completely changed the situation.
"Wanna keep hanging out?", he blurts out.
You can't stop yourself from snorting. His eyes widen at the sound and his reaction causes you to fall deeper into laughter.
He joins you and within seconds your head is on his muscular shoulder.
"Despite my immediate reaction, I'd love to. On one condition", you reply.
He looks down at you to continue.
"No funny business", you continue.
He smiles and looks up at the popcorn ceiling. "No promises."
You swat at his thick thigh and he catches your hand there.
You both sit there for a few minutes longer, a warmth spreading between the two of you in the boisterous diner.
Dean DiLaurentis can expect a variety of things when he walks into his not-so-humble college abode.
John making out with a chick on the couch? Sure!
Garrett and Hannah being a lovey dovey mess in the common area? Grossly cute, but why not?
What he's seeing right now is as out of left field as anything could be.
One of his best buds, Tuck, cuddling up with...his childhood best friend?!
What the fuck?
Because Dean is a menace to society above all else, his first instinct is to take a picture and post it on the BriarU gossip accounts.
But, because he loves his friends (and he doesn't have access to the gossip accounts) he decides to simply send it to the Hockey House gc (+Hannah and Allie, of course).
His phone immediately pings with responses from everyone in the group chat.
Hannah: Jesus Harold Christ!
Garrett: Whatever Wellsy just said x44
Allie: Hoooly shit!!! Did you know?
Dean: Nope 😞🤬
Logan: 👍
He laughs at the replies, but decides he won't meddle in any further.
He tiptoes up to his room upstairs. He stops at the landing and looks down.
Its nice to see you be at peace. Tucker's the type of guy who can give you that.
You went to sleep last night in a happy bubble. You thought of Garrett surprising you with a nice dinner or a heartfelt gift. You dared to dream that he'd put together a hangout with your shared friends.
In essence, you had hoped to be thought of. Being cherished on the one day of the year that's solely yours.
Now, you feel fucking stupid.
The only texts on your phone come from your parents and your best friend.
Nothing from your boyfriend. Not even a good morning.
He'd told you he'd be busy this morning with a Bruins practice opportunity. The reel came up on your feed minutes ago.
But, still.
You drag yourself up and open the curtains. A beautifully sunny day awaits outside. In your heart all you feel is sadness that borders on melodrama.
You go through the motions of the morning with little ease. Every time you manage to forget about your boyfriend forgetting you, traces of him left around your dorm remind you oh him all over again.
His letterman jacket that he "accidentally" always leaves behind because he knows how much you love it sits on your desk chair. The umbrella he used to save you from getting drenched on a rainy day stands proudly next to the door.
You wonder when he'll remember. You're certain it's not up to you to remind him how much today means to you. Right?
Garrett opened the door to The Boys' House and exhaled a sigh of relief. Media duties with a team he hasn't officially signed with is just what Phil Graham's son has to deal with.
The guys are all scattered around the house.
Tucker's laser-focused eyes leave the apple pie he's carefully decorating in surprise. Dean's walking down the stairs in just a towel and stops mid-step to look at Garrett in shock. Logan's fingers are flying across his phone way too quickly, yet joins the others in looking at Garrett like he's grown another head overnight.
"Uh, hey?", Garrett greets them all.
Dean snorts, already seeing where this is going. Tucker rolls his eyes in dismay and gets back to work.
Only Logan replies. "Hey, you doofus. Whatcha doin' here?"
"Uhm, I live here?", Garrett replies smartly. "Have for the past two years."
Logan rolls his eyes and sits upright. "Yeah, sure. We all just thought we wouldn't see you today, G."
Garrett just looks at him confusedly. "Does someone care to fill me in?"
"Dude, he means you should be with Yn. Y'know on her birthday", Dean interrupts. He's obnoxiously chewing on an apple and way too happy to know more than Garrett (for once).
Immediately, panic floods Garrett's nervous system. "No. Her birthday is the twenty-second. It's the twentieth."
"Other way around, smartass", Tucker mumbles under his breath.
Garrett pulls out his phone to confirm his words. Only to see June 20, 2026 mockingly stare at him back. Just under the date, rests a calendar notification titled 'Yn's Birthday' with three mocking balloon emojis behind the words.
Fuck.
Logan looks at him with pure dissapointment in his eyes. Eyes that say 'told you so' without verbalizing it.
"I need to go", Garrett mumbles to nobody in particular.
He checks his messages when he's inside the car. Text from his manager, his dad, and...none from you.
Because why would you the text the man that says he loves you yet forgets your birthday?
He races to your dorm and makes it in record time. At your door, he hesitates. The conversation ahead of him puts fear in his heart. You've been dating for eight months and despite having some small disagreements, this fuckup isn't something either of you can sweep under the rug.
A hard series of knocks stops you from further pushing your sandwich around. Your mood drops even further knowing who that particular knock belongs to.
"Yn! I know you're in there", he begins.
You wonder if IRL ghosting is as big of a moral dilemma as online ghosting. (AITA for IRL ghosting my boyfriend for forgetting my birthday?)
He loudly lets out a sigh. You can imagine what he looks like out there; running his hand through a mess of curls while standing outside in his post-practice sweats. "Please, don't ignore me."
At those words, you become enraged. You ignore him? Seriously?!
You stand up and unlock the door, and he quickly walks in after you.
"Funny coming from you", you snort. You can hear the pettiness that causes him to wince, but you don't care. You can't care about his feelings when he's so easily trampled all over yours.
"Yn, baby, I-", he starts.
You shake your head. "No, Garre, don't. Don't come here with stupid excuses. Admit it." You're holding your head high knowing that if you drop it tears will follow.
"It's not an excuse. I thought it was the twenty-second. Baby, please", he begged.
"Just say the words, Garrett. You forgot about my birthday", you grit out.
"Babe, I'm serious. I had a whole day planned with a restaurant reservation and..look!", he suddenly remembers the email he's gotten from the five-star steakhouse. "See? I didn't forget you."
You stare at his phone screen through tears. You feel bad for lashing out at him, but you feel worse for yourself. You've spent your entire birthday wallowing in insecurities and general misery.
He crosses the living room in three purposeful steps. He looks at you for a second and wraps his arms around your tense figure. You break down in tears faster than he can apologize.
"I know", he starts. "I'm so sorry. Fuck, I can't imagine how you felt all day." His hands are busy between combing through your messy hair and caressing your back.
Through tear-stained cheeks and red eyes, you look up at him. You see his wrinkled forhead and worried eyes.
The general shittiness of the day catches up with you in an instant. A loud, frankly ugly snort ripples through the air.
Garrett stops caressing your back and whispering sweet-nothings. With an eyebrow raise, he says, "What was that?"
Those three words start off a chain of unstoppable laughter within you. He can't help but join you when he realizes how stupid the situation is.
This is the type of thing you'll both look back on and tease each other with. You'll blush at his teasing, but he'll look away embarassed as he explains his parts of the story.
"What a day", you finally let out after getting every semblance of laughter out your body.
He rolls his eyes fondly, but stops when his eyes land on the analog clock in your kitchen. "Yn, look", he says with wide eyes.
You look at where his eyes are focused, but you're lost. Yeah, it's 4 pm...so what?
"We have time for a birthday date", he clarifies.
You shake your head. "No, you don't h-", you start.
He interrupts. "Nope. Not taking that as an answer. Get ready, Yn. I'm about to pull all the stops."
He leaves you with a kiss on the forhead, a squeeze, a promise to pick you up at six, and a warmth in you heart that only he can make you feel.
Your birthday might not have started ideally, but life isn't about perfection. It's about living and loving.
One thing you've learned to do well in recent years is make the most of everything.
For that reason, you've decided to combine a baby shower and gender reveal in one night.
Macklin's mom insisted that you don't need to cater as she'll bring every one of your favorites. Minnie assured you that all the decor will be done by her (which in fact, they were done before you arrived home last night. You asked Mack how she got in (?!) and simply got a cheeky smile in response.)
The only thing left is how you'll tell everyone the gender. You decides to go the classic (easy) way- a cake reveal.
Macklin picked it up this morning from the bakery he frequents to get you all your pastry cravings.
You'd texted everyone that the gathering starts at 8.
By 7, you're sat at your newly-constructed vanity. You're applying foundation with a fluffy brush when you see someone in the corner of your eye.
Macklin's leaning against the door, staring at you with the softest eyes. He turns to look at the empty hallway when he realizes he's been caught.
You smile and motion him to come closer.
"Hi", he smiles. He kisses your shoulder and nuzzles the crook of your neck. You put the brush down and gently rake your fingers through his soft chestnut hair.
"Hi, you", you mutter back. You look in the mirror and realize he's wearing pink.
"Tryna throw them off our scent?", you tease.
He chuckles. "Can't have them knowing before the big reveal, can we?"
You shake your head at his silliness. You've picked the brush back up and are blending out the foundation when he says, "Wear blue."
You look at him through the mirror with a glint in your eyes.
"Please", he adds. A little late, if you were to be asked.
"Planning on it", you nod to the closet. On it, a blue flowy summer dress is perched.
He smiles and gives you a cheesy thumbs-up. You can't help but smile at his dorkiness.
You've noticed a shift in Macklin recently. He's a lot more...content. When you both found out about the pregnancy, there was so much stress surrounding the two of you. Now, six months later, much of the stress has dissipated. You're at a place where the unknown has become your new normal. Macklin's learned to be strong for the three of you. He's devoted, much more than you'd ever even wished he could be. A calm, of sorts, has settled over you two.
You're fluffing your hair when the doorbell rings. It rings again before you even have the chance to get up.
"Coming!", Macklin yells...from what sounds like the nursery.
You peek out into the hallway and your heart stops. Everyone that loves you two is at your door. Minnie, Macklin's family, and Lane.
Half of them are dressed in blue (Aiden, RJ, and Minnie) and looking far too smug. The pink wearers are are confident in their choices but nowhere near as loud about it.
As everyone comes inside, your brand-new living room becomes filled with a lot more laughter, love, and gifts. Your heart warms at the sight of them all.
You waddle back into the room and put on your finishing touches; strappy sandals, small pearl earrings, and bangles. You figure it's one of your last times really dressing up while pregnant. Why not go all out?
Once you walk out into the hallway, you hear a squeal. Robyn is smiling ear-to-ear and you can hear her call you beautiful from where you're standing.
Macklin's standing, waiting for you once you've waddled to the end of the hallway.
"Hi, again", he murmurs. His lips meet yours in a soft, chaste kiss.
"Hi", you respond.
You're both broken out of your bubble by Minnie coughing loudly. You roll your eyes at her antics, but inside you're happier than ever. The world has changed so much in just seven months..it's nice to know someone has stayed the same.
You do the rounds around the room, greeting everyone. A few hands feel your bump, with everyone admiring it.
Your skin is radiating the happiness in your heart.
You all settle into the living room with Macklin sitting on the arm of your chair.
Conversation flows easily, but is cut by a grumble. Coming from you. Or, more specifically, your baby.
Macklin snorts. "I take that it's time to eat. Everyone, get your plates. Serve yourselves!"
You swat at him, but are secretly happy for the queue. Thankfully, it seems only Macklin heard the grumble.
At the tail-end of dinner, you mention cake.
Robyn and Minnie whoop.
You explain the rules. "So, with the cake, we need everyone to close their eyes. I'll cut it, Macklin will pass the pieces around. At the same time, everyone will open their eyes. Deal?"
Everyone nods, and a few comment on how cute the idea is.
"Close your eyes!", you call out.
Everyone does so, with Minnie making a big show of putting her head down like she's in school.
Macklin and you lock eyes, with him nodding at you to start.
The first few pieces are slid around the table quietly by him.
All is well...until Aiden's slice is in front of him.
He gasps. So loud you're certain that the Wilson's next door heard him.
Macklin immediately realizes what's happened and smacks his brother upside his head. "Dude!"
"I'm sorry! I had to see", Aiden says.
"You're so not the godfather", Macklin grunts back.
Aiden lets out a similar gasp to the first one. "Take it back!"
Lane, from across the table, snickers. "I'm the godfather now, loser."
You see Aidan silently raise his middle finger in Laine's general direction (though, to you it looked to have been closer to Robyn...).
You finish passing out the cake by the time the back and forth ends.
"Everyone besides Aiden, open your eyes", you excitedly direct.
Everyone gasps. Aiden in faux offense, the rest in shock.
"A boy! Oh my god, Yn!", Minnie screams out.
"My boy's having a boy", Robyn emotionally lets out.
Laine, Macklin's siblings, and father are simply congratulating the two of you.
You're surrounded by Minnie and Robyn for the next twenty minutes. Talks of boy names, the nursery color scheme, and overall motherhood surround your trio.
You look across the dining room at Macklin mid-conversation.
He's already looking at you, with a glint in his eyes.
In this moment, the baby is so real. Not just a distant idea or a dream.
But, someone whose coming soon. He'll disrupt your normal and change everything you thought you knew.
He shakes his head with a smile that you return.
These people are crazy, but they're your crazy people.
Little did you two know this was the calm before the storm.

You can't remember when the shift from friends to something more occurred.
One day, you were making out in the tunnel after a Briar win. The next, Logan was opening up about his childhood.
You remember telling him you aren't a 'no-strings-attached' type of girl. He nodded, like he understood, but he never outright asked you to be his. He never told the guys you're his girlfriend.
It's no surprise you're green with envy now.
Hannah's in the living room on the dingy couch you've teased Logan over a dozen times. Logan has his full attention on her, like if he's not staring at her face she'll disappear.
He's laughing at everything she's saying. You feel stupid staring.
It's been like this since Garrett introduced the group to Hannah. She's his tutor, according to Tuck. Since when do tutors become as constant as the northern star?!
You move to sit next to Logan and he just scoots away. He would later tell you it was to give you space, but you're certain it was so that he could be closer to Hannah.
You scoff and walk away in a flurry of angry silence.
"Y/n, wait! Hold up", he calls after you.
You're upstairs, picking your belongings up from his room when he catches up with you. "Yn? What was that about?", he asks, appalled.
"Are you fucking serious, Logan?" His mouth slacks in shock even more somehow. "Every time Hannah's around, you're all eyes on her. I thought you said you were over her?"
"I am. I said I was, so I am", he reassures.
"Then why are you looking at her how you've never looked at me?"
He quiets.
That lack of answer said everything.
"You love anything you can't have", you say on your way out.
Your words ring in Logan's ears far after you've darted away. He's reminded of Jules who said the very same thing to him last week.
Logan ruminates over this all day and night and comes to a conclusion. He has to distance himself from Hannah if he wants any chance with you.
So, he puts it into action.
Hannah comes over for breakfast and he grabs a bagel before heading to yours. He doesn't stop and sit next to her while laughing at her puns, like he would have before.
Instead, he grovels for minutes on end and begs you for another chance.
You agree, but on one condition. He asked what it was and immediately agreed. He was already distancing himself from Hannah on his own. No biggie.
John had been talking to Tuck when she walked in. He stilled when he saw her at the door.
"Hi", she greets them both.
Tucker answered without looking up from the pineapple he's cutting. "Hey, Wellsy. Garrett's in his room."
"Actually...I came to talk to Logan", she shocked them.
Hannah can tell he's looking for any reason to walk away from the conversation. "C'mon. Just a second. Please?"
He assents, hoping he can just let her speak her mind and leave.
Tucker catches the weird vibe that's suddenly taken over the room's usual comforting vibe. "I'll be-oh who cares."
John's staring at the spot where Tucker just was when Hannah speaks. "Hey, uh, I don't know what happened or changed. You've been off for..a week?"
She awkwardly giggles to fill the strange silence.
"It's just distance, Hannah. Nothing meant by it", Logan replies blandly.
"I've been having problems..with Garrett", she admits.
She looks as beautiful as ever in that moment, Logan admits to himself shamefully. Her bright blue eyes are shining, cheeks adorned with the pinkest blush. She's smiling shyly the way people do when they're scared to admit something.
He looks at her blankly, urging her to go on.
"And...you-well people have been saying you like me. Is that true?"
Logan had not expected those to be the words to come out Hannah's mouth.
Her kissing him right after was even less expected.
But, because nothing in Logan's life can be simple, he hears a surprised gasp from the entrance of the house. This same gasp snaps him out of his shock and he creates a sizeable gap between himself and Hannah.
Only then does he realize that the gasp came from you.
You're out the door before he can even process how to react.
"Fuck", he says under his breath. He runs his hands over his face and through his hair on instinct
He glances at Hannah, but is surprised to realize he feels the same regret that's washing over her face.
"That was a mistake", Logan tells her plainly. "Please-I...liked you once. But, I'm in love with her."
Hannah herself rushes to apologize. Logan waves the apology away and decides it's time. Time for him to run after you.
You're closing the car door when Logan gets outside. Visible anger is hard set on your face.
"Wait, Yn!", Logan yells out. He's in front of you in a matter of seconds.
"Logan, what?", you ask in exasperation. What could he possibly have to say about what you saw in there?
"She kissed me", he starts. You scoff right away, as if on instinct.
"You didn't stop her, Lo", you murmur.
He has no rebuttal to that. Because, he didn't stop her.
"You're right", he answers. You roll your eyes and move to start leaving. "But- I realized something. I didn't feel anything when she did. I didn't like it, I was just shocked."
"I don't have to kiss Dean or Tuck to know I don't have feelings for them", you bite back.
"I know that, Yn. And I'm sorry. I really am. I told Hannah that was a mistake...and I'm in love with someone else." His face is earnest, like the final wall he'd been holding up had crumbled.
You wish your heart hadn't fluttered when he said that. You should be strong enough to walk away from Logan once and for all.
But, you've had the softest spot for him for two years. It seems it won't harden overnight.
"I love you. So much. I'm so fucking stupid that it took almost losing you for me to come to my senses", he admits. His brown eyes are desperate, pleading almost.
"So what, Logan? You're just gonna hide us and act like we're just best buds tomorrow."
"No. Not if that's not what you want", he reasons. "I just thought before that things would be easier if we weren't public."
"Easier for you? Probably", you snide.
Logan's gentle smile falling makes your stomach drop. "I'm sorry..that was mean."
He chuckles silently. "I deserve mean. You're far too good for me anyway."
You open the door and he steps back. The air is warm and you can hear the breeze rustling the leaves. You're looking up at Logan, with hope in your heart. This'll be the time things will be different.
He closes the gap between the two of you. He's kissing you against your car door. His hands are around your waist, gripping onto your cardigan. Your fingers are tangled up in the waves near his nape.
"One more chance, Lo. Don't blow it", you whisper.
He tucks a strand of loose hair away from your face and behind your ear. "Wouldn't dream of it, baby."
Parents tend to go one of two ways with baby names: traditional or eccentric.
The names Macklin has been throwing out this past week makes you think there's a secret third option in there: bullshit.
"I am NOT naming our baby Sidney Wayne, Macklin!", you insist over dinner.
"Okay, I hear you! But, imagine the legacy..", his eyes are glazed over and you're starting to think your boyfriend is legally insane.
"Serial killer legacy?", you mutter.
He scoffs. "Hater."
Later that night, you suggest much more human names. Not made up true-crime, hockey-esque fantasies.
"James?", you suggest.
"Boring", Macklin counters.
"Dean?"
"Like the sausage?", he snorts. "That'll make some chirp."
You visibly pause, serum dropper mid-air. "Well, maybe when you suggest a normal, cute name we can use your suggestion."
He quiets. The next time you look back he's making a thinking face, brows furrowed and green eyes focused on the popcorn wall.
"Lay 'em on me", you joke. You're getting in bed, trying to find the sleeping position that'll hopefully let you get more than five consecutive hours of sleep tonight.
"Leo", he says. He has a proud smile on his face.
You stop moving. "That's not half bad, Macklin."
"You hear that, Leo? Your mom thinks your name isn't half bad. High praise", he speaks to your round belly.
You playfully swat him away. "Leo Celebrini. I like it", you muse.
"You should come up with his middle name. So", he begins to blush, "he can have a name from both of us."
The suggestion is so cute and tender you don't have the heart to tease him about it.
You take your phone from the night stand to pull up your note app.
Macklin gives you an amused, yet questioning look.
"Baby name list, duh", you explain. "It's mostly girl names...but I think I have a few boy names in here."
When you settle down on the bed again, Macklin scoots closer. His head is on your shoulder, eyes fixed on the list.
"Hm. Okay, not too bad", you say.
"I like these two the most", Macklin says about the last two names on the list.
You glance over it one last time, and your eye catches on the second name on the list. Reid.
"Leo Reid Celebrini", you try it out.
Macklin smiles. "Leo whenever he's being good and Leo Reid when he's in trouble."
You smile. "Exactly."
"If you don't get in here right this insant, Leo Reid", Macklin attempts a 'dad reprimanding his son' tone. Except, he's smiling the whole time. Instead of being stern, he looks like a goofball.
You snort. "Thank God you have time to work on that."
He rolls his eyes, but his gummy smile is still on display.
"Goodnight, Yn. Goodnight, baby Leo", Macklin kisses you both goodnight.
Leo gives a small kick in response and you both smile at each other in the dim room.

"No way!", you giggle way too loud.
"Way! I told him "dude, a pecan is a nut" and he said no every time I insisted on it. And now, he's sent me a selfie from the ER", Will tells his story of the week.
You cackle, his storytelling abilities never failing.
It's almost 1 a.m. and you and Will are going through your usual ritual. Call that lasts hours recounting the week, laughing until your ribs ache, and falling asleep before you two can get the chance to hang up.
"Miss you", he suddenly murmurs.
Your heart aches.
You remember the days before the "Miss you's". When everything was so simple, yet every small change was life-altering.
High school feels a decade away now, like a memory starting to fade around the edges.
You met Will in homeroom.
He'd been throwing wadded up pieces of paper across the room to his friend. When, suddenly, one of those paper wads landed in your hair.
You grunted and gave him the worst side-eye you'd ever given one of your classmates.
And apparently, this not-very-charming moment of teenage moodiness was what caught Will's eyes.
He'd come up to you after class and apologized. Up close, you could see how pretty he was. Crystal blue eyes, soft waves in his blond mane, and dimples to top everything off.
You'd accepted his apology and walked away in haste. No need for much else.
He was a bit stumped by your need to get away from him. So, he'd asked you out. As an apology.
You'd accepted, although hesitantly.
It had to be some sort of cruel prank from your new classmates.
Except when Will walked up to your door with two roses and a shy smile, you were almost as ruined as he was.
That was your first date with Will three years ago.
He broke your toughened exterior that day and became irreplaceable in your life. He was a constant fixture, too. There was never a day you two didn't see eachother.
Until, he moved away. Not to the town over or even the state over. Across the country. On the whole other coast. There are three thousand miles between you and your high school sweetheart.
You snap back into the present. "Miss you, too", you whisper softly.
You can hear him rustle around. You can imagine him right now; dim room and woeful eyes.
"Just two more weeks and I'll have you all to myself for the summer", you can hear him smiling as he speaks.
He's been hyping up this trip back to Boston like crazy. Its as if he's been gone for decades and not just the one year since he started his professional career.
You decide this is the perfect time to let him in on your surprise.
Will's surprised to hear a knock on his door this late af night. You feign surprise on your end, too.
"Is it Macklin?", you ask.
Hearing his footsteps approach, you hang up the call.
Will looks through the peephole and does a double take. God, he can't miss you so much he's imagining you. Right?
When he opens the door and sees it's you, the real you, he almost drops his phone.
"Surprise!"
He almost tackles you to the ground. You huff out an amused laugh. "Hi", you say into his hoodie.
He pulls back to look at you. He's looking at you like you might disappear if he doesn't stare hard enough.
He interlaced your hands and closed the door behind you.
"Hi, baby", he finally says.
His eyes are slightly glassy (which you will 100% give him shit for later) and still in disbelief. "But- finals? Packing week? I thought you finished next week."
"A few white lies", you admit. "I wanted to surprise you. Maybe see San Jose with you? Gotta see the hype around the city that stole my boyfriend."
He half-snorts half-scoffs. "Dork."
"Your dork", you counter.
His ears redden, but he doesn't argue with that. "Missed you", he admits again.
You stand between his outstretched thighs, looking down at him. "You have me all to yourself. Two weeks and all of summer", you offer.
"Hmmm. Not enough", he says with a gleam in his blue eyes.
You straddle his thighs, lips caressing his ear. "How about I add tonight to that deal?"
His smile grows into a smirk. "We've got a winner", he plays along.
You yelp in surprise when he gathers you in his strong arms and gives you a small toss.
Long distance isn't easy. It never will be.
But, nights like this one remind you both of how real the love between the two of you is.

Apartment hunting was funny.
Every apartment you and Macklin went into was either rundown or way too expensive for you to feel okay living there.
Besides the juxtaposition in apartment quality, the way the brokers treated you and Macklin was also too funny to be real.
You're both obviously young, but with your growing bump and the apartment budget; they treated you like young royalty.
The biggest benefit of the treatment was the apartment you both finally settled on.
Two bedroom, two bathroom, and 900 square feet. Not to mention, the peace and quiet around the complex.
You were estatic in the car on the way back to the dorms.
"Which room should we make the nursery? I like the one with the wider floor plan; we can make a little play area", you ramble.
Macklin smiles. "I'm happy you've come around on the apartment."
You soften. "I was just hesitant. But, you were right. Raising a baby isn't suitable to dorm life."
A minute later, Macklin agrees. "And yeah, the wider room for the baby. We can make a play rink in there", he smirks.
"Oh no no no. You are not making our son a hockey player fresh out the womb, Macklin Celebrini", you tease.
"I can already see it. Baby Celebrini, #17. Center for the San Jose Shaaarks", Mack's inner commentator comes out.
You're laughing harder than necessary at this point.
But, you knew you really had to enjoy these last few peaceful days before the dreaded last trimester sets in. Heartburn, insomnia, extreme discomfort; Robyn has warned you of it all.
She had the nerve to tell you Macklin himself had been a nine-pound-infant and twenty-one inches when first measured.
You hadn't worried too much about birth before this little tidbit came to your attention. (Moreso, to not fall into any anxiety attacks.)
And now with Spring move-out coming up, you have a lot on your plate.
Little moments like these are what keep you somehwat sane these days.

Turns out you didn't have to stress about moving out of your dorm for two reasons. A) you don't have much to begin with so moving from the dorm to the apartment was going to be easy regardless and B) the Celebrini's completely handled moving out.
Robyn helped you pack, Aidan boxed all your belongings up, Macklin put it all in the truck, and Rick drove it all to the new apartment.
The whole situation was a lot more seamless than when you moved into the BU dorms, to say the least.
Now, today will be the first night you sleep in your new apartment.
For this special occasion, Macklin's decided to cook the first dinner in your new home.
His only instructions to you were to 'get some beauty rest and come down at 8 to eat'.
You should've known better than to listen blindly,
By the time you woke up, the fire alarm was ringing. There was smoke and the smell of burnt...toast (?) wafting throughout the apartment.
You waddled to the kitchen as quickly as your very pregnant body allowed you to. "Macklin, what the-", you began. A yelp from Macklin interrupted you.
"Babe, come on! I told you 8...and it's 6:30!"
"These instructions didn't mention a fire alarm and smoke, Mack!"
"Just a small blip. No biggie. Go get ready", he nudged you back towards the master bedroom.
"I'm trusting you! We better still have a home by 8", you half-joked.
And when you finally came out of the bedroom at 8, you were (reasonably) shocked.
The only furniture you both had built in the living room was a small table. This small table had a candle, a rose, and two plates of delicious-smelling spaghetti and garlic bread on it.
Not a Michelin-star meal by any means, but probably the most heartfelt dinner you'll ever have.
"Ok, Miss L/n. Today we have a legendary Italian dinner aka one of the three things I can actually cook", Macklin jokes.
"Ah, so you had made an attempt on a fourth dish earlier, then", you quipped.
He snorts and pulls your chair out. You smile and thank him quietly.
Dinner goes well. It's soft and quiet, just as romantic as your anniversary dinner at a downtown restaurant. Yet, as comforting as late-night study sessions in the dorms.
"How did Minnie take it when you told her you were moving out?", Macklin asked.
"Oh, you know Minnie. She was extra about it, but ultimately she was happy for me. For us", you answer.
"The guys were too. Lane said he could help out and paint the nursery. Or housesit. Pretty sure he's just tryna get away from his fuckboy roommates and all the noises, though", Mack snarks.
You laugh. You laugh so hard that you hold onto your bump for support. Macklin's eyes crinkle at the sight.
Later, while you're getting ready for bed, Macklin quizzes you on everything US Gov for the upcoming exam.
"The Civil war ended on?"
"Uh-there are multiple dates. But, officially..August 20, 1866", you reply as you search through boxes for your skincare.
"Babe, that's my gear. Try the box under the sink', Macklin corrects you. You hum thankfully and he continues to quiz you.
Twenty-five questions later and you're settled in bed.
"Think you're gonna ace this one", Macklin smiles.
"I better. All this studying when we could be sleeping", you sass.
"Well, our son needs one smart parent", he jokes.
You shake your head at his self-deprecation and kiss him goodnight.
"First night in our new home", you whisper in the comforting darkness of your half-furnished bedroom.
"Start of forever", Macklin agrees.
Your heart warms as your eyelids shut for the night.
