Ykw im going to a bit further, here is why i think she would have short hair - this isnt targeted btw, if someone prefer her with long hair its perfectly fine lol
Hair signifies a lot, both irl and in story. In modern times, women are expected to have long hair to be considered feminine. All a man needs to have to be mistaken as a woman is have long hair, all a woman has to do to be called a tomboy is have short hair.
Beyond gender, what you do with your hair can be very quickly political - lots of alt styles have loud hairstyles, dyed in bright colors for exemple and they all tends to be leftist (mohawks).
At the same time, oftentimes said length is controlled or restrained in some way - ik a lot of places considers tied up hair to be more professional or schools that have policies as to how much they can flow, because it equals to feminine which oftentime equals to sexual unfortunately.
So for me, fem kdj before the senarios would keep her hair long. Its both a sign of trying to blend in society and conform as well as a sign of neglect - not enough money to go the hairdresses unless theres a job interview or smtg, she barely takes care of it and ties it carelessly...
Once in the scenarios, kdj revels in the apocalypse. Social pressure is completely, and with the 4th wall and her knowledge, she can act more like herself - as much as kdj can at least you know how he is.
Cutting her hair is practical as she isnt a character that can have long flowing hair just like that, as well as a sign of her being more comfortable acting like herself.
Its also a contrast with yjh, who would look exactly like the punisher. Not only because she is a female protagonist and in a meta sense they usually have long hair, but also to show yjh's nature as someone who is unapologeticly themselves.
Its also nice because while punisher is hot af and if a woman like her showed up in front of me irl i think id stop being aroace, she's also far from being traditionnally feminine - she's domineering, brutal, rude, strong, tall, buff, scarred and doesnt wear feminine clothes (in the apocalypse at least, tho i do think fem yjh would prob end up being a butch with long hair lol) which makes them a nice duo
Speaking of, I think kdj (in everyday life) would be the kind of woman that is a bit ashamed/scared of dressing in a feminine manner, cause she thinks herself isnt all that feminine and trying would make her look stupid but she isnt completely closed off at the idea. Also she's broke and clothes are expensive so
Anyway thats just my own personal interpretation
