my friend tried to prank me with the "i just deleted your animal crossing island 🤪" but my switch is set to russian mf wouldn't even know how to get to the settings
The ukrainian kids at work taught me counting out games in russian and ukrainian today (like eenie meenie, miney, mo ...). We played заморозка (playing catch with "freezing" when you get caught). I asked them to write them down because i thought this might be interesting
(Elementary school kids wrote these and I don't know if the spelling is 100% correct. Please do correct if you know!)
(Russian) Чики пики ножку выкинь а выкиаивать нельзя потомушто мы друзья стакан лимон вый ди вон дабавь воды и выйдиш ты
(Ukrainian) Сив метелик на травичку i сказав якусь дурничку раз, два, три, це напевно вийдеш ти
Here's the corrected version for the Russian: Чики-пики, ножку выкинь, а выкидывать нельзя, потому что мы друзья Стакан, лимон, выйди вон, добавь воды и выйдешь ты
It's interesting I've never heard those before, I wonder if those are regional
The считалочки I know are:
Вышел месяц из тумана, вынул ножик из кармана, буду резать, буду бить, всё равно тебе водить
Эники-беники, ели вареники (it has a few continuations, but I've always just used this part)
Раз, два, три, четыре, пять Вышел зайчик погулять Вдруг охотник выбегает, Прямо в зайчика стреляет Пиф-паф, ой-ой-ой, Умирает зайчик мой It also has a few continuations with a happy ending, but people usually don't get to them, because it's too long :P
Woow thank you so much for the correction and your additions!! <3
I think I heard the эники-беники one too

(i did them in the wrong order but) here's some more practice i did :> i may not have the prettiest handwriting and i'm not one of these super aesthetic studyspo girlies but at least i am doing my exercises
Thought this was really sweet
[caption: train time table with a black flower drawn and handwriting on the edge saying: Оля, тебя только может любить. Александр (Olga, one can only love you. Alexander)]
The elementary school i work at has a few ukrainian students and they almost all exclusively speak russian. And i tried to speak russian with them, translated some short sentences and explained that i am trying to learn it and they were super excited about that and showed me how to practice russian on the school tablets (the app they learn german with also has russian and ukrainian versions! So cool).
And today their teacher told me that one student said to her: "zoe speaks russian! Don't say swear words around her, she understands that"
And like. Do you understand how cool that is. I spoke russian to a kid, i had a real conversation with him, and he understood me!! I spoke so well that he told his teacher!!! What?!?! :')
Their teacher is from ukraine and speaks both russian and ukrainian as well as german. I showed her my vocab and some other practice i did and she said my handwriting was really nice and that she admires my dedication a lot! The kids also like to tell me random words for me to write in my vocab book :')
I love listening to them talk, because kids just don't use super complicated words or sentence structures and i can understand them pretty well now. Like it's so cool to notice yourself getting better at a language and getting positive feedback from native speakers. My ego is up in the clouds right now 🤪 russian just makes me really happy

forgetting a word in your mother tongue but remembering it in your target language is funny BUT what about forgetting a word in all the languages you learn and searching it frantically in yout brain right in the moment you need it
Tired of leaderboards and lives running out?
Introducing: the ConcerningDuolingo Classroom.
A while back, I made a Duolingo account and created a Duolingo Classroom there. Today, I finally logged back in, found the join code, and joined it from my personal account. Now, I have infinite lives, and I am excluded from leagues, which I found were getting in the way of learning in the way I wanted to. (Long story short, I've been in the Diamond League for almost 70 weeks and didn't want to let go, but after coming back from Italy, it didn't adjust to the time zone the way I thought it would, and I dropped down without realizing. I'm finally free whew). Anyway, I wanted to give y'all a chance to reap these benefits and invite you to join the classroom.
You can a) click the link I'll add below or b) go to your settings in the app, find the Duolingo for Schools section at the bottom, and enter my join code: xwbqqv. Hopefully this will work for y'all, but if you encounter any issues, I'm sorry!

я написал диктанты :) (dictations)
"Моя семья" and "Чистые пруды" by О русском по-русски on youtube. I love this channel. She explains russian grammar - in russian. It's really helpful for me, she speaks very clearly and most of the videos have subtitles available too :)
I always loved dictations in school because i was just naturally good at spelling and I write fast. I'm currently practicing to also get a better flow in my russian handwriting. I like the second one better, but this was A2 so and i didn't know all of the words and made more mistakes :( the first one was really rushed.
ancient greek word of the day: ἀστερίσκος (asteriskos), little star; asterisk, the mark <*> by which Gramm. distinguished fine passages in Mss.
"that language is useless!" "but everyone speaks english!" "you'll never use that language, why are you even learning it?" "it's pointless learning new languages" shut up shut up shut up
I found a cool Russian cursive handwriting generator if any new Russian learners need some help

Gender neutral language in Portuguese: ELU (+delu)
Did you know Portuguese has a gender neutral subject: elu
It works exactly like the singular they in English. Just like the masculine ele or feminine ela, elu takes the third person singular form of any verb.
Adjectives referring to someone who uses the pronoun elu should end with an e.
Similarly, collective nouns are often gendered and so need to be adapted to end with an e in this form.
Example one:
Amigo 1: Elu é muito linde
Amigo 2: Quem?
Amigo 1: Aquele menine!
Friend 1: They are very beautiful
Friend 2: Who
Friend 1: That person over there!
Example two:
Esse carro é delu?
Is that car theirs?
Я сейчас читаю эту книгу. Теперь я даже знаю много слов и могу читать короткие рассказы :)
Моя тётя мне подарила эту книгу. Она из России, но она не хочет говорить со мной по-русский :(
