All 44 MILLION flipnotes that had been posted to Flipnote Hatena back in the early 2010s have been restored. ALL OF THEM!
I accidentally found this out today. I had no clue this archive project was even a thing in the works. I checked the website and was able to find every single flipnote animation I ever posted.
Flipnote Hatena was such a huge part of my childhood and my journey with art. It was also what got me through some of the first years of my parents' divorce as a child. As a clinically depressed kid having to switch between houses every week, flipnotes had been my lifeline. They had been my everything in middle school. And now I have all of my flipnotes again, and readily available online at that. This is the best gift I could have gotten this christmas, especially after accidentally deleting years ago one of the animations I had cherished. The archive project has also gotten enough funds to keep the project going through to 2024, but you can donate to their Ko-fi if you want to keep the archive up even longer.
I never would have thought I'd ever get to see all of these animations again. 12 Terabytes of data containing 44 million flipnotes made by 1.2 million kids over a decade ago. I didn't even know this was possible!
