In de buurt van Bazel ligt de Campus Kaiseraugst ( 65.000 m2) van het farmaceutische bedrijf Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd, sinds vorige week bekend van de monopoliepositie voor materiaal van de covid19-testen. Een van de centrale pleinen op het terrein is de thuisbasis van de afdeling informatietechnologie van het bedrijf. Het ontwerp van dat plein is door de landschapsarchitecten van BRYUM gemaakt. Ze hebben voor de bestrating gebruik gemaakt van algoritmen op basis van de geschatte voetgangersstroom, de zitgebieden en de plaatsing van de bomen. De computersoftware die was gebruikt om het patroon te genereren is exclusief voor dit project ontwikkeld. De bekisting voor de gegoten betonnen bestratingselementen werd CNC gefreesd (Computerized Numerical Control). Het project is daarmee een baanbrekende implementatie van parametrisch ontwerp in landschapsarchitectuur.
