Ok, so a friend suggested that I do this as like, a restorative thing. Iām a bit scared though. Iāve shared my story with few people, out of fear of judgment or people just ignoring it. But now, I donāt care. I donāt care what people think. I want to share.
Alrighty so letās start at the beginning. Itās March of 2000. Iām three months old, and currently in the hospital for necrotising fasciitis, aka. A flesh eating bacteria worthy of a zombie film. So something happened probably during the surgery (we donāt really know) and suddenly, I begin to develop bruising in and around my left hip (where Iād had the surgery). So Iām whisked back to surgery, where they diagnose me with bilateral hip dysplasia. What that means is that my hips are permanently dislocated from my legs. If the doctors hadnāt caught it when they did, I wouldnāt be here gracing the planet with my presence. I had to wear a full body brace for my first year of life. It was humiliating. And it didnāt work.
Jump forward seven years. Iām back in the hospital. Now, theyāve put screws, bolts and other metal bits into my left hip (the side thatās more affected) to try and get my hip to fit back in to my leg. During this stay, I got to watch high school musical three months before it was released (suck it!) and I āinventedā piƱa colada by mixing pineapple juice, apple juice and orange juice together (in my memory, it tasted amazing.)
Three years later, Iām back in the hospital. This time, theyāve removed the bits in my hip and put growth plates in my right knee. The point of these are to stop the growth in my right leg, so my left leg can catch up.
Currently, Iāve still got the growth plates. They arenāt doing a whole lot, but theyāre working the best so far.
All of what Iāve mentioned above has left me with a zillion scars, as well as a very noticeable limp. Itās not pleasant, but I know thereās nothing I can do about it.
