Paris versus New York: A Tally of Two Cities
"When Vahram Muratyan began his online travel journal, Paris versus New York, he had no idea how quickly it would become one of the most buzzed-about sites on the Internet-it garnered more than a million and a half page views in just a few months, and the attention of savvy online critics. Now Muratyan presents his unique observations in this delightful book, featuring visually striking graphics paired with witty, thought-provoking taglines that celebrate the special details of each city. Paris versus New York is a heartfelt gift to denizens of both cities and to those who dream of big-city romance."
In ’Off’ the persons are only visible through a digital representation, while the surroundings are as analog as possible. These pixelated persons are isolated from the rest of the world and often find themselves in foggy, strange milieus.
These pictures come to life when the viewer move in relation to them – seen up close, the people are blurred and the viewer has to step back to bring the motive into focus. At the same time, the scene in which the person is placed is blurred when viewed from a distance. From a distance you can almost only identify the pixelated part of the image. So you have to move back and forth. The movement is important — metaphorically speaking too."
Ford's Bizarre New Tumblr Marketing
Ford is really promoting its new And Is Better campaign pretty hard. If you've been living under a rock, it's the campaign that is peddling Ford's new MPG-friendly vehicles, which all look pretty much like the vanilla ice cream of the auto world. In any case, they are trying realllly hard to appeal to the 20-something Tumblr crowd, so let's give them some credit. Take a sampling of some of their graphic design work for their AndIsBetter Tumblr. Oh, and if you've noticed, the artwork has really nothing to do with the campaign... I guess they figure it's just what folks on Tumblr are reblogging these days.mblr Marketing
Known as the Red Planet, Mars has usually been viewed in bright color. However, these new photos give a new, more intricate view of the planet which offer a new perspective on how we view our nearest planetary neighbor.
"This Is Mars offers a previously unseen vision of the red planet. Located somewhere between art and science, the book brings together for the first time a series of panoramic images recently sent back by the U.S. observation satellite MRO (Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter). Since its arrival in orbit in 2006, MRO and its HiRISE telescope have been mapping Mars' surface in a series of exceptionally detailed images that reveal all the beauty of this legendary planet. Conceived as a visual atlas, the book takes the reader on a fantastic voyage--plummeting into the breathtaking depths of the Velles Marineris canyons; floating over the black dunes of Noachis Terra; and soaring to the highest peak in our solar system, the Olympus Mons volcano. The search for traces of water also uncovers vast stretches of carbonic ice at the planet's poles. Seamlessly compiled by French publisher, designer and editor Xavier Barral, these extraordinary images are accompanied by an introduction by research scientist Alfred S. McEwen, principle investigator on the HiRISE telescope; an essay by astrophysicist Francis Rocard, who explains the story of Mars' origins and its evolution; and a timeline by geophysicist Nicolas Mangold, who unveils the geological secrets of this fascinating planet."
Superheroes As Typefaces
Designer Matthew Olin figured that superheroes could be described as a metaphor by typefaces that reflect each hero's personality.
The infamous "6th Avenue" by Jack Crossing
"'6th avenue' was a concept I pitched to a band back in 2011. They were after something a bit different so I decided to treat this as a piece of art instead. Since putting it online it has gathered a lot of attention. In 2011/2012 I sold an edition of 60 prints and also saw the artwork had been tattooed on someone."
