Here are reasons to be careful and it’s not recommended you top up your baby with a bottle with either breast milk or formula. 🤱Baby is unsettled. Remember crying unsettled babies are are not necessarily hungry babies. 🤱You no longer feel full. Yes your breasts become soft but that is due to your hormones regulating due to those supply regulating hormones. 🤱Babies feeding more frequently could be due to tiredness, growth spurts or they’ve got used to snacking. 🤱Taking top ups after feeds. Many babies will take more milk especially under the age of 8-12 weeks due to their involuntary sucking reflex. 🤱Confusion around your baby’s cues. Remember hunger, tiredness, discomfort cues are all exactly the same. 🤱You are second guessing yourself. STOP IT 😊🙏 Once you start topping up, it’s harder to stop. Your baby can become lazy at breastfeeding. Sucking on the breast to extract milk, takes more effort than a bottle. They become more accustomed to bottle feeding and before you know it your breastfeeding days are over. Top ups are very different than offering a full bottle at one feed so that your baby can get used to a bottle when you need to go out or just want someone else to do night feeds. Want to know more or having challenges around feeding and sleep then get in contact and let’s work together.
