A Slurp / Isaac Night spread I am working on in my sketchbook presently. One sketch per night makes for slow progress, but I’m really enjoying the process. I have always wanted to fill a page with sketches but it stressed me out because sometimes you get a really good sketch and immediately ruin it with a bad one on the same page and it’s all over lol
All the timelapse footage of the sketches are up on my TikTok!
We are going to ignore Isaac’s bear paw of a hand, I struggled so much drawing it and then when I was done and happy with it I realized it was still too big. I’ll edit it in post when I scan it lol
Disclaimer: I'm just neurodivergent, and my special interest is appreciating set details. Isaac's birth year is at the bottom<3

(I thought it could be a generic 123, but both docs seem to have been written by the same person, and when they write "1" they include a top serif with no baseline stroke. "8" seems to be their slimmest number. The "6" at the end looks about the same as their other 6's in that it's slim and narrow like the "8" but leans right.)

Student File
Nevermore Academy, Jericho, Vermont
Student: Isaac Night
Year: 1985-91
Grade: 7th-12th
Student No.: 5036757
Test Data or Comments:
(His 7th & 8th grade national standardized test scores)
[Row 1] M 86 (Possibly "Male 1986." National average test scores since this row is in white, not colored like the next 2. And gender demographics used to be a thing.)
[Row 2] 07 1 (Maybe "Grade 7" with a test code.)
[Row 3] 4701 (No clue for "4701." Might be a generic test form number or admin code.)
(I think these are his Grade 7 & 8 test scores since both Rows 2 & 3 are shaded and Row 1 is not as they usually do with reference rows. His file indicates he started Nevermore in 1985, in the "7th" Grade. And usually, they make junior high and high school students take different standardized tests.
These are 'Achievement Scores' as in a test of what content he's learned; things tied to the curriculum for his age; facts and skills he developed in school.
We know he's exceptional, and in the next section, you'll see his aptitude scores are near PERFECT. So I headcanon that little Isaac was innately brilliant, but he was being tested on general education for 12-year-olds ---grammar, vocab, punctuation, spelling, social studies, reading comp, math comp, science, problem solving---and still had more to acquire for his knowledge bank. Buuuuut, his Aptitude Scores say he's phenomenal.)

Differential Aptitude Tests
(DAT. This would be the 4th edition if we're going on the same-Earth/Universe continuity because the DAT was updated to the most recent 5th edition version in 1990/published officially in 1992. But at the top, it seems to be marking the year again "86S" (1986 Spring). The critereon hasn't really changed, and it typically exists in this specific order below for student tests. Just maybe some words have evolved since the 50s, but I think they sort of match up to the blurry af word shape/lengths in the pic. It is missing the last category though: "Language Usage," and instead looks like it has one word "Spelling." So this last one I can't parse out.)
BUT ANYWAY, the fun part: Isaac's DAT scores are different from the last 'Achievement Scores.'
DAT measures HOW you think, your reasoning, and skills. And Isaac's brilliant, especially for only being about a 13-year-old.)

Year: 86S (Possibly, "1986 Spring" but not as you'd first think. 'Spring of 1986' doesn't make sense with his school timeline---which is at the bottom of this post---because Spring of 1986 would be the end of his 7th grade. But sometimes schools would put "[Starting school year] [F for Fall semester/ S for Spring semester)." So 86S could translate to: "1986-87 school year, second semester (Spring)")
Grade: 08 ("Grade" is too blurry for me to read, so I'm guessing there. But if we're still in 1986, then we're still in little Isaac's 8th Grade progress. So it tracks.)
Sex: M
Categories (in order): Isaac's score / Average
1. Verbal Reasoning — 97 / 85
2. Numerical Ability — 99 / 85
3. Abstract Reasoning — 99 / 85
4. Clerical Spd / & Accuracy — 100 / 85 ("Spd" is short for 'Speed')
5. Mechanical Reasoning — 100 / 85
6. Space Relations — 100 / 85
7. Spelling — 100 / 85 (Not sure about this one, again. I wish I knew if this was based on a real category, or it was a special Outcast aptitude one!)
