Can we just take a moment to appreciate this Crunchyroll admin:
They’re so nice
and polite,
but also savage as hell
and sarcastic.
They don’t stoop to these people’s levels
and act maturely.
They’re just really polite, positive, and kind
and this makes me so incredibly happy.
The Crunchyroll admin(s) deserve a freaking medal (preferably gold).
“How can you tell me to return to ice while saying you’re retiring?!”
Yuuri should be punished for his tears...
I deserve to be kicked out of fandom, not only for making this but for posting it on Victors birthday too

Yuri on Ice Sales - BluRays and DVDs (Vol. 1) CORRECTION
Yesterday, I made a post about Yuri on Ice’s BD and DVD sales based on the oricon charts, saying that the first volume sold 35,589 copies total in the first week. Thank you to @nopenotara and @chatnoirentournee who pointed out to me that oricon made a mistake and updated their sales chart. This is important because it turns out that in the end Yuri on Ice’s first volume sold 50,878 copies in week 1.
I already explained why 35,589 copies is amazing in this post so I recommend checking that out if you want to know how good that actually is but with this update… wow. I’m floored. Apparently only 0.5% of all anime actually manage such results. This is absolutely incredible and I’m so unbelievably happy.
Of course, on its own that doesn’t mean much to us, but it’s all but a guarantee that eventually we’ll get a confirmation of a second season. Because when the anime makes profit (and makes this much revenue so early on) then there’s no reason to stop season 2 from happening. It’s all just a matter of time now.
So, congratulations everyone! We are on the right track.
What do you think? Any chance for all episodes on one BluRay disk?
You don’t deserve someone who comes back, you deserve someone who never leaves.

Because I have it up to HERE with all the people on this fucking trash site that keep shitting on YOI the anime and its staff because the ending didn’t meet their WESTERN’s expectation of how a “real gay relationship should be represented”
@ People that STILL say YOI is queerbaiting and the staff are silencing YOU just because they didn’t show the final with a wedding or ANOTHER kiss: Read
Preach!
I feel like Victor and Yuuri’s romantic relationship was clear to anyone who wasn’t actively trying to deny it and that’s huge progress in terms of gay representation in Japanese media.
And the fact that their relationship was loved by western and Japanese fans like makes me feel happy and warm inside. I think that’s a good sign.
Okay, but can we take a moment to realize how difficult it must have been for the creators of Yuri on Ice to even get an anime studio to work with them?
Because this was not a simple project at all.
Like, think about Kubo-sensei walking into an office to begin negotiations with an anime studio to get the project known as “Yuri on Ice” greenlit and approved for production (I mean, in real life it’s a bit more complicated than that, but let’s just imagine for the sake of brevity and clarity), and she begins pitching her product:
“We would like to make an original anime about male figure skating”
[Figure skating is one of the most niche sports you could think of, esp in Japan, which could make it really hard to sell]
“Featuring a serious emotional (romantic) relationship between two men”
[Anime is notorious for its poor presentation of homosexuality and is afraid to treat the topic seriously and respectfully because it might scare away potential viewers]
“As well as about 14 different skaters, all from different parts of the world and relevant to the story in some way”
[All of that requires extra character design and casting]
“Which would all need at least 1 figure skating program each, amounting in about 22 different skating programs total”
[That requires immense amounts of animation (and research, and references for its sake) which also means the animation team has to be sufficiently large and skilled to accommodate this need]
“And for this we would also need a professional figure skating choreographer, to actually design all the programs”
[Finding someone who could design 22 different programs, some of them particularly impactful and memorable is a difficult task in and of itself and finding someone who would want to work on an anime project is even harder]
“And of course, we would need someone to write about 22 different music pieces for all of the programs”
[All of which would need to be impactful and memorable, similarly to the choreography]
“And all of this would be contained within 12 episodes.”
[Meaning very little downtime between competitions, as we saw, which means that the animation team has no time to rest because they must complete all the frames for the next episode’s programs (and let me tell you that fluidly animating figure skating is not only difficult but also time consuming as all hell)]
I feel like I could still mention a few aspects, like for example the design of the different locations and the references that it would require, but I think this already gives you a picture of how difficult it was to not only make this anime, but how hard it must have been to actually get it approved (considering how difficult the production process would be, especially for something that originally looked like a risky project that may not even be popular enough to make a profit).
In case you needed more reasons to appreciate Yuri on Ice, let’s take a moment to appreciate how much work and effort went into the creation process for this anime.
Because the fact that it even exists is nothing short of a miracle and something we should never take for granted.
Like, think about Kubo-sensei walking into an office to begin negotiations with an anime studio
Please please remember Sayo Yamamoto. She is the one that asked to collaborate with Kubo-sensei, through a mutual love of skating, and they created this project together.
MAPPA finally being the one to agree isn’t surprising, because MAPPA, a new studio whose first project was in 2012, has always tackled unconventional projects. Not all of their stuff has been good, but they’ve taken on ambitious projects since they began (i.e. Kids on the Slope, Zankyou no Terror, Shingeki no Bahamut— next year they’re doing Inuyashiki, an action series where the protag is an elderly man). But none of their projects have been a success like YOI. In fact, none of them have been very successful period. Add in the fact that YOI is not an adaptation but an original project, which is a MUCH bigger risk and….
That YOI has been so successful is unexpected. Literally no one anticipated this massive, massive popularity. The initial merchandising for it was a tiny trickle of stuff featuring promo art. Even in the ‘most anticipated fall series’ among Japanese fans it didn’t rank highly, and the promo teasers for it made it look cool and artsy (not to say it isn’t, but that’s not usually what makes big bucks). And ‘but it’s gay, of course it’s popular’ is AHAHA NO, because like first off tons of fujoshi bait stuff misses the mark and doesn’t sell, and secondly all of the anime I can think of that have actual legit, non fetishized m/m couples in lead roles have had weak to downright non-existent sales (Doukyuusei is possibly an exception? I haven’t seen it, but I’ve heard it’s sweet and not fetishy. That being said it’s one movie as opposed to a full tv series). Heck, even standard shounen-ai titles tend to sell mediocre to poorly. So this is a first.
As for figure skating, Japan is actually one of the biggest countries in the world popularity wise for the sport, but that is a relatively recent thing, but yes it doesn’t compare to other sports (i.e. baseball, soccer, etc.). In fact, it’s been said that Yamamoto had been shopping around a skating anime for years but was only able to get it greenlit after a spike in popularity with Yuzuru Hanyu’s gold medal in Sochi. A figure skating anime; with the dozens of costumes, pieces of music, different choreographies, etc. requires SO MUCH MORE work than an anime about most other sports.
Re: that choreographer, let’s not forget that he’s not just any choreographer, but he’s the most famous skating choreographer in the entire country by far.
Basically, the amount of love and care and yes RISK that went into this anime indeed cannot be overstated. Bless Kubo and Yamamoto-sensei. Please support YOI in whatever way you can; whether through merchandise, purchasing the series when it comes out in your country, etc. We owe them as much for this.
Now that I think about it, you’re completely right - we don’t talk about Sayo Yamamoto enough. She was just as key in making this anime happen as Kubo was (she’s just less vocal on social media). We should definitely talk about their joint effort, not just the one on Kubo’s part.
So yes, very good response and one which I highly agree with.
i dont think its a coincidence that "yakov" sounds like "fuck off" with all the stress he gets from viktor and yurio and georgi
LMAO
Naaah! Many Eastern and Southern Slavic surnames ends with -ov.
Victor “in-your-face” Nikiforov
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Yuri & Victor. Tessa & Scott.
!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still can’t believe that the one thing the fandom wished for since like episode 2 actually came true and became canon.
Just when everyone thought pair skating would be asking for too much, unrealistic or impossible bam! Yuri on Ice proves us wrong once more.
I swear, I have never been happier to be wrong.
LOL! The only unrealistic thing they were asking for was marriage in the last episode! xD
This is for anyone who wasn’t completely satisfied by the finale, PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND.
Man, I love Jacob, he’s so right.
I would like to add this to the list of things I wish Viktor did in ep11 thank you
