        he doesn’t often take cases like these anymore—- or any, in fact. the growing need of his father’s work piles upon his desk now. an extension of reach to an already overextended hand. so one would think that when he can worm his way from such constant issues, he would find the time to rest. to calm himself. && yet the urgency of which this peculiar trouble presented to him by the museum employee had him enthralled with questions. questions that were bettered suited to see for himself rather than ask who did not know.

         given permission to walk the grounds at night. the security of the late hours themselves going off to their various corners being of no help to him in terms of guide or clue. the place teems with an energy that most museums lack. always a faintness of magic in places where the old gather. relics holding residual power or promise from their once bright years. however this was different, teeming still with life. it’s been a while since he last walked these halls. with his daughter, he recalls. remembering her running down the corridors to the various exhibits with laughter at her heels. at night it’s quite different. colder, eerie. his mind still bothered by the magic that swirls about in the air so faintly.

         steps pause & he looks upward to gaze at a painting for a moment. behind him, there is movement he does not quite sense. shifting & curious eyes upon him. as the sensation grows his turns to look behind him to see nothing. brows furrow, he returns to the painting.  ＂ —–don’t quite understand the urgency yet. ＂

𝐢𝐧   𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 ,     𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡   𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐬   𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞   𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐧 - 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭'𝐬   𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠   𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 ,     𝐚   𝐬𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝   𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐰𝐧          ‘pon   anubis’   retreating   heels   as   the   night’s   spirit   floating   o’er   a   body - less   tomb .     howl   at   the   moon ,     dog   of   duat !     the   dark   maw   cannot   consume   electrum   light ,     for   it   floods   through   the   crevices   of   cracked   teeth   and   rises   o’er   fang’s   peaks .     he   who   glides   ‘pon   the   crescent - boat   shimmers   from   darkness’   depths ,     and   out   of   night’s   waters   come   marrow   and   flesh   in   gilded   form ,    the   skin   of   divinity ,     grace   of   the   gods .     he   is   pharaoh   of   the   dusk ,     pharaoh   of   khonsu’s   blessed   kiss ,     and   he   strides   forth   this   silver   hour   out   of   anubis’   hands .

golden   sandals   clink   ‘pon   smooth   museum   floor ,     their   curled   toes   sparkling .     his   pace ,     though   languid ,     is   an   intent   billow   of   robes   fanning   ‘round   his   form ,     for   in   these   magic - forged   halls  roams   a   man   who   should   not   be   within .     such   is   what   tilly   had   told   him   ‘pon   the   evening’s   stroke .     the   east   has   entered   the   west !     the   living   amongst   the   dead .     curiosity ,     as   clear   as   an   empty   sky ,     embraces   him ,     has   him   aglow ,     eyes   bright   with   the   light   housed   behind   them .     it   is   about   time ,     he   thinks   with   quirked   mouth’s   corners ,     that   somebody   did   something   about   this .

his   tablet   should   not   be   tainted !     alas ,     a   sorcery   unseen   had   with   black   claws   hooked   into   the   tablet’s   power .     khonsu’s   pharaoh   could   feel   alike   holes   being   prodded   into   streaming   rays ,     letting   the   dark   drink   out   of   a   light - less   cup .     how   troubling .     it   was   drawing   ‘pon   the   ever - flowing     magic ,     and   he   could   not   let   it   continue .     what   had   tilly   called   this   man ?     a   magical   consultant .

corner   turned ,     he   halted   short ,     peering   carefully   ‘round   into   the   gallery   room .     there   he   was !     mouth   parted   as   kohl - lined   eyes   glanced   the   man   up   and   down .     he   did   not   look   as   he   thought   he   should ,     and   a   huff   is   puffed   through   his   nose .     quickly   does   he   draw   back ,     out   of   sight ,     when   the   other   looks   behind .     t’was   rather   exhilarating   to   remain   hidden ,     that   which   lingers   ‘tween   papyrus   reeds ,     but   it   was   not   as   if   tilly   had   forbid   him   from   appearing   out   of   the   rushes !     mischief   marks   him   with   a   moon-made   simper   as   head   leant   forward   to   glance   once   more .     stepping   out   promptly   into   the   room ,     pharaoh   spoke ,    ❝     indeed ?     you   do   not   sense   it ?    ❞     preamble   forgotten ,     speaking   instead   to   the   other’s   out - loud   sentence .     painted   brow   turns   to   skepticism’s arch ,     composed   of   a   decorous   air   as   hands   clasp   behind   sunset - colored   robe   that   made   him   throned   ‘pon   the   dawn’s   dying .     head   canted   sideward .    ❝     i   promise   you   that   because   it   cannot   be   understood ,     it   is   very   urgent .     you   are   the   one   they   are   calling   the   consultant ?    ❞
