Layan Albaz is one of thousands of Palestinian children who had lost limbs in Israeli air strikes since October 7—and one of the very few evacuated to the U.S. for medical care.

The average U.S. public school has about 550 students. Imagine eight or nine schools in an area roughly the size of Philadelphia where every kid is missing at least one limb. Imagine also that their amputations happened alongside a torrent of other tragedies: the loss of family members, friends, neighbors, schools, houses.

Now imagine that the only hope to reclaim some semblance of physical normalcy required those children to leave home. Gaza’s sole manufacturer of prosthetics and its affiliated rehabilitation center were destroyed in an air strike months ago; as a result, many families of children who have lost limbs are trying to evacuate them so they can receive medical care abroad. Social media is brimming with their desperate pleas, and only a few get what amounts to a lucky ticket for the mortally unlucky: Countries willing to take pediatric amputees from Gaza are doing so in relatively small numbers.

The kids who do find a way out board planes for distant places. In Layan’s case, that place was more than 6,000 miles away from everything and everyone she knew.

I think the main reason why FNAF translated well into a movie, while Minecraft very much doesn't, is that when you're playing FNAF you're supposed to imagine it as real life. You're supposed to squint at any janky or goofy animation it may have and imagine this is you, right now, in real world, behind this security guard desk. While playing Minecraft - what you see is what you're supposed to see. This is not the real world, this is the world of minecraft and things are blocky with simple colors and designs. You're not in the real world, you're in the world of the game.

Which is why seeing the graphics so realistic yet still blocky makes it look deeply uncanny. Like this is not real world. This is also not minecraft. I have no fucking idea where I am

Why do we constantly have to have “humans get transported to another world” storylines when it comes to live action adaptations? Why can’t it just be in-media-res? Why can’t the Minecraft movie follow the novelization where a guy randomly awakens in Minecraft with no idea who he is and just needs to learn how to survive… you know… LIKE HOW THE GAME IS. Why do we gotta bring people from outside the game world into Minecraft? Why do they look human but everything else is a CGI nightmare? You couldn’t pull a Detective Pikachu and just set your god damn plot IN Minecraft from the start?

And most importantly …

WHY CAN’T THE WHOLE MOVIE JUST BE ANIMATED? You’re already animating like 95% of the film already, just fucking make an animated film.

my predictions for the minecraft movie:

alex is gonna be that one “badass strong girl” and have no personality outside of it

actually nobody is gonna have a personality

half of the plot is basically just captainsparklez’s fallen kingdom saga

and the other half is those minecraft isekai books by mark cheverton (did anyone else read that as a kid)

mumbo jumbo will be there with no explanation
