forgive yourself. do it often.
small steps to getting there:
1. remember that you are flawed and human as we all are
2. keep in mind that you canât go back and undo mistakes but you can learn from them moving forward
3. think about how this experiences has changed you in positive ways
4. seek forgiveness from others if needed but learn to be okay with them not accepting your apology, it doesnât make you irredeemable
not to be dramatic, but life really is about choosing love despite
I know it's such a clichee to say but you deserve to receive the love you keep trying to give everyone else. You deserve effort and unconditional love and intentionality. You don't have to say yes to the bare minimum. There are amazing people out there, you just don't believe in that anymore bc of how much you've been hurt.
always remember the Final Girl Code:
- do it alone
- do it scared
- do it with a knife in your hand if you have to
finding it necessary to remind everyone that it's seasonal. i promise you it's seasonal. everyone i know is out of their minds right now in some way or another. it's seasonal.
i am not unforgivable. i am a human being who is allowed to mess up and learn from it.
itâs our first times being alive, we will make mistakes and we will grow from them. no one is perfect.
Isabel Allende, The House of the Spirits
The hypocrisy of being human; the constant tug between solitude and company, the desire to love so desperately and simultaneously be detached from it all, of wanting everything and wanting nothing.

papenist readings? papenist readings.
so many of the newer successful dark academia books are founded on donna tarttâs dark academia aesthetics in the secret history, even when the entire point of the secret history is that aesthetics are pleasing yet entirely illusionary. the secret history manages to simultaneously brandish the aesthetics it criticizes which is its biggest feat â the novel literally opens with the protagonist admitting his fatal flaw is, you guessed it, aesthetic beauty. so itâs kind of funny and yet a little tragic how an entire subgenre has spawned out of a papenist (yes, I just made that word up) reading of the secret history that tauts aesthetic beauty when donna tartt was always warning us against our inner, yunno, papenism.
the book itself is very ironic to its entire point đ€Ł
this summer is making me feel like bunny corcoran having to write about methemeralism
We have all spoken at length about how toxic and awful the Greek class is. So here are some sweet moments where theyâre actually quite cute:
- Francis putting a blanket over Richard when he falls asleep on the couch
- Charles not ignoring animals in need: rescuing a dog about to be put down and then taking in a stray cat
- Camilla proceeding to be very good to said dog. Then both twins being devastated when it died.
- Bunny writing an âIâm sorryâ note to Richard then putting it with a book and mints in his mail box
- Henry taking care of Richard after he almost freezes to death, literally being so gentle and good the whole time. (I get you could argue this was part of the psychotic master plan, but this sequence is still so soft)
- âForgive me, for all the things I did, but mostly for the ones I did not.â
- The boys being genuinely worried about Camilla when she cut her foot and all freaking out and then helping her and talking so kindly to her
- Bunny getting described as generally very patient and nice to his chihuahua-like girlfriend and calling her âsweetieâ and âhoneyâ and wanting eight kids with her, four boys and four girls. (uh, this is before he went crazy)
- Charles and Richard musing about the Greek class all living at the farmhouse together
- Henry winking at Camilla when she did a good job reading
- Bunny genuinely being able to make Henry laugh, like by triple spacing his essay
- Distressed Richard asking Camilla to tell him a story, and her talking about the only memory of her father and how she and Charles, as babies, used to squabble over a tape measurer
- The twins hosting dinner at their apartment every Sunday even though they didnât have much.
This deserves a reblog. With all my sincerity
entering my henry winter era (in which i murder anyone who inconveniences me and then shoot myself in front of some people to alter their lives forever)
god remember when there were no ads AND you could post dick on here. take me back i'll be grateful this time
every time you assume that others are thinking negatively of you or judging you behind your back, you are bullying yourself through them. at the end of the day, you don't know what thoughts are running through their heads unless they verbally express them to you. until then, every one of 'their' opinions about you is nothing more than your fear, and whatever assumption is born from your fear is yours to let go - not theirs to disprove.
songs that make me think of the secret history: icarus- bastille
firstly, the song is retelling an old greek myth, which is incredibly fitting, and a myth that almost represents the class itself- the insatiable desire to achieve. but the lyrics in the retelling by bastille also excite connotation of the characters themselves:
reading books like the secret history is always such a wild ride, because i'm fully aware that it's a criticism of aesthetic hedonism and the elitism of academia, and then i'll read a line like " if we are strong enough in our souls we can rip away the veil and look at that naked, terrible beauty right in the face; let God consume us, devour us, unstring our bones. then spit us out reborn" and i go absolutely fucking feral.
