So... I read "Our Mirage" in a span of 1.5/2 days and honeste when I began, I was confused so much cause what is the MultiVerse was happening... Member from every group I have heard if was showing up ... I was literally confused as hell cause...

Hoon (which one do u mean... jiHOON or sungHOON?

Gyu (which one do u mean...BEOMgyu or MINgyu?)

Jun (which one do u mean...YeonJUN or just JUNhui?)

Also... girl, the FL has so many EX-es!!

But you did get me hooked on ...

I was living in the the story once I was interested and I'm actually sad that it ended... You really pulled me in...

Shua and Vernon as non-biologically Brothers made so much sense...and how the characters developed along with the reader was too good 💯

And Minghao... That man has an aura and your fic beautifully portrayed it😌

BEOMgyu was the sweetest supportive bsf... 🥺

I now realize I'm one of those people who just assumes everyone understands what's going on in my head lol

hoon is always jihoon, no one liked sunghoon enough to call him hoon

gyu is beomgyu, they first called him little gyu but as time went on he was just gyu, and mingyu didn't exactly spend every waking minute with them either

jun is junhui, even tho there moments when yeonjun was also jun but that was all yn and just while texting him or speaking directly to him

tbh I don't think two official and important exes is a lot lol, like she's 21 in NOG and sunghoon was her only important ex. minho doesn't count in our mirage cause they didn't exactly have a label here, and eunwoo was NEVER her boyfriend, but I get why people might be confused

hope that clears things up a little

regarding everything else, I'm just glad people enjoyed this little story as much as I did, it was written solely based on vibes and a fever dream hahaha

A non-traditional, traditional wedding. Of course, you'd go for something confusing like this. When you first told him about it, Josh spent a lot of time trying to figure out exactly what you meant, until he gave up and just decided to go with the flow and do whatever you asked him to.

He definitely expected to be part of the wedding party, maybe even give a father-of-the-bride kinda speech, but officiating the whole thing never even crossed his mind. It goes without saying that he's beyond excited cause he gets to celebrate your happiness and play a huge part in it. The best thing, however, is the fact that Hao was the one to suggest it.

Part of him was still scared of never being entirely forgiven for almost ruining your future, so it's nice to see that's not the case.

So, Josh has spent a good while thinking about this moment, what he would say, and he's still a little unsure.

"Hello, everyone," his voice comes out shaky. "You see, I was asked to be the one to kinda bless their love, but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to do that. So, I'll tell you a story instead…

"A long time ago, I made a promise; to love and take care of this beautiful girl here. She was a lot smaller back then, though, and she smiles much less. That's the thing about losing the foundation of your life, isn't it? No matter how shitty it is, you're still gonna miss it in some ways. This girl was broken, and so was I, but I tried my best for her, and I think I did a pretty decent job.

"She grew up to be someone who never gives up and always follows her dreams. Still a little broken, though. And she eventually met this crazy man, whom I'm lucky enough to call my friend, and I was scared, terrified even, cause for a moment time stopped. However, as it often happens in this kind of story, they went on with their lives. They learned and grew, even got their hearts broken along the way…

"Until they finally met again! And I was even more scared, cause this time around, the whole world stopped, as if taking a moment to admire the way in which the strings of fate had finally untangled. And I even tried to break them apart before they got together cause who wants their baby sister dating their friend? Absolutely no one!

"The thing about fate, though, is that there's not much you can do to fight it. And I'm happy I didn't ruin it, cause you see, she's not broken anymore. And neither is he. Against all odds and my intelligence, they've managed to pick up the pieces and build something beautiful. Their love is like a mosaic or something, made out of broken pieces, rearranged to make something unique and meaningful.

"So it's an honor to be here today, cause I'm proud of them and I have nothing but the best wishes for their life together. Hao. Yn. It's been my privilege to witness your amazing story, and I hope you keep making each other happy. So, by the power invested in me by no one in particular, I bless your union and wish you the best!"

Josh can hear a few chuckles, but he's too busy trying not to cry to see exactly from whom. This is it, he keeps thinking, the end of an era. He's happy, the happiest he's been since he knew he'd be a father, but this is a different kind of happiness; one that's followed by a weird void and a sneaky sense of mourning.

For now, though, he chooses to celebrate.

The party is beautiful, everything you've always imagined whenever you tried to picture the day of your wedding, even though it's not exactly a "proper" wedding. Still, something is hanging in the air…

"How are you doing, my beautiful angel?" Hao asks, as if appearing next to you out of thin air.

You smile. "Amazing, everything's beautiful."

"I'm glad." His eyes meet yours, and for a moment, it feels like everything around you disappears. "I need to steal you away for a couple of minutes, though."

"Why?" You look at him, waiting for a clue.

"A little surprise." That's all he offers before taking your hand in his and guiding you out towards the emergency exit.

You follow him, looking at his back, and the memories hit you. It starts slowly, building up until it spills.

The first time you met, you were scared of him because he looked so distracted all the time. He kept showing up and kinda fit in perfectly. You even remember all the years you didn't see him, his engagement… You were happy for him, but part of you was disappointed cause you always had the childish fantasy of marrying him.

And then time went on, and things changed. He was no longer your crush; he was just Joshua's friend, even if you still got a little nervous around him.

Most of all, though, you remember how he was always there for you. How, despite everything, he never stopped showing up; it was different than back when you were a teen, his presence in your life was heavier, steady.

You even rememeber he people you loved before; Yeonjun, even Sunghoon. You're thankful for them, even when it hurt; you understand now how necessary it was to go through that. You wouldn't change a thing, not even Joshua's tantrum. Every single decision and heartbreak made you both who you are now. This tender and patient love is like a reward; Hao himself feels like the universe's way of telling you everything is gonna be alright.

He finally stops. There's a gazebo covered in your favorite flowers right in front of you.

"I know you like Twilight, so I took a page out of Edward Cullen's book," he jokes, but still fails to disguise the shakiness in his voice. He's nervous.

"This is beautiful." You look around in awe, and even more surprised cause how did he find the time to make this?

Minghao takes a step closer and reaches for something in his pocket. "There's something I've been wanting to say, and I know we originally planned to save our vows for the end of the party, but I feel dizzy trying to keep it all in, and between that and all the vodka we both know we're gonna end up wasted."

This is exactly like him. "Then it's a good thing I also came prepared," you say, slipping a piece of paper out of your sleeve.

His gaze softens cause this is like a confirmation of how in sync you are. "You wanna go first?"

"You wrote me the most devastating letter just to say you wanted to ask me out, there's no way I'm letting you say your vows first!"

He laughs, thinking he'd do it all over again if it meant he'd get to be here in the end. "Go on then…"

You unfold the page, fingers shaking a little. "People say you can't love two people at the same time, and I always believed it was true until you proved me wrong. And before you start complaining, let me elaborate...

"I was in love with someone else when you came in and rocked my world. I was falling apart because the person I loved the most vanished from my life. Still, throughout the dark and the pain, you were like a flickering ray of sunshine. You stayed awake with me when I couldn't sleep, brought me roses to make me laugh; you held me together when I thought I'd never be myself again. And in that moment, I loved you.

"I think part of me has always known my feelings for you were more complicated than I wanted to accept, but time never seemed right. Even when our lives aligned, both free for the first time in years, it was as if the whole world was telling me to let go of these feelings, but then I realized that anything worth having can be a little hard to get.

"And you're everything I want. I already tried to let you go, and it didn't work, so now I'm gonna hold you close for the rest of my life. I wanna have breakfast with you for the rest of my days. I wanna do the dishes with you while you ramble about whatever fun fact you've read recently. I wanna chase the sunset with you.

"Above everything else, though, I wanna love you as loud and shamelessly as possible. I love you, Xu Minghao."

He can feel the tears pool in his eyes. That's everything he always wanted: to be loved as deeply and unapologetically as he loves you.

"I'm hating you right now," he chuckles, a little embarrassed, but still letting you dry his tears. "You better cry like a baby cause I spent weeks thinking about my vows."

"We'll see," you smile, teary-eyed.

"I love you," he starts, with the same confidence that people use to say that two plus two equals four, like it's a fact. "That's my irrevocable and indeleble truth. I love you. More than anything and anyone, more even than I thought myself capable. It comes naturally.

"I love your laugh, your tears, your funny sneezes, and even the way you spill something and just wipe the floor with your sock when you think no one's watching.

"It's an instinct, but there's so much more to it. I don't love you because life has its ways or because we happened to be at the right place at the right moment… Yes, it feels like I was born to love you, but that doesn't mean my will and intention had nothing to do with this. Our souls are made from the same ashes and stars, but I've been bending and fighting fate to stand next to you today.

"So I'm gonna love you as intentionally and selfishly as I can for as long as you allow me to, which I hope amounts to the rest of my days."

This is it, everything you've always wanted. And the thought that you could stay here for the rest of your days settles like a wish in both of your hearts.

It's just a random Tuesday, nothing eventful, besides Josh calling you to confirm you'll be taking care of Dojoon next weekend so he can go with Dahyun to some weird exhibition about makeup and costumes.

"You remember that old guy Beomgyu invited over a couple of months ago?" Minghao brings up out of nowhere while putting away the groceries.

"The Ancient Arts professor?" You decide to indulge him. "Gyu said he retired last week, right?"

"He never married," he mentions casually.

Now you're lost. "And how do you know that?"

"Wonwoo told me. I mean, he lived with someone for a long time, but they're not married."

"So?" You urge him to get to the point. It's not exactly like him to dance around something like this.

He takes a deep breath. "He's been with the same woman for decades, and people think he's single just because they're not legally married. I don't want that to happen to us."

"What do you mean?"

"We're married, symbolically. And we celebrate our anniversary, but I'm afraid the rest of the world might think we're not just because we never signed a paper that says so…" He explains.

You think for a moment. "And you wanna do something about it?"

"Maybe." He mumbles. "I mean, our anniversary is like right around the corner, so we could just make it legally official. If you want, of course."

Something clicks in your mind; all the times you caught him looking at your ring in the past month, and even frowning at your mail. "Sure, let's do it."

"Really?" He sounds surprised, as if he expected you to refuse.

"Yeah, I mean, it's just a formality, and we know what we have is real, but thinking about it, it makes sense. Like for medical stuff or taxes, I don't know. So, let's do it, we don't have to wait for our anniversary, though. We can just go tomorrow, it's not as if something is suddenly gonna change, right?"

He smiles. "You're right, nothing's gonna change."

And it's true. You've been married for almost three years now, signing a paper is not gonna change that. It's been real since the beginning.

This is one of those rare occasions in which Minghao finds himself alone in the middle of the night. It's like an instinct, actually; looking for you even when asleep. He looks around the room before getting up. He walks slowly through the narrow hall leading to the living room.

There you are, sitting on the porch looking at the moon. It's been a while since he's seen you so restless.

"Couldn't sleep?" He asks, sitting beside you and holding your hand in his.

You sigh, as if all the thinking and pondering had already exhausted you. "Couldn't stop thinking, actually."

Your eyes look for his gaze, and you're met with nothing but complete devotion and softness. That's Minghao; there's nothing more purely him than that.

His thumb traces circles in the back of your hand, soothingly. "Wanna talk about it?" His voice filled with patience.

"You think we should get married?" His eyes widen with surprise.

Mignhao stays silent for a few minutes, choosing his words carefully. "I think we can do anything we want as long as we really want it. There's no need to rush into something we're not ready for simply because everyone thinks we should."

Of course, he would say something like that. "What if I'm never ready for that?"

He takes a deep breath before asking, "Do you want a life with me?"

"Yes," you answer without thinking, you don't have to, that's the only truth you know right now.

"Then that's enough," he assures. "We both know I've never been fond of traditions and rules. If we want to be together and share our lives with each other, that's enough; we don't need some paper or big party to make it feel official. We're real."

You turn to look at him again, looking for any hint of doubt; there's none. "I love you," you say, and the words feel heavy in your chest because it's more than just a feeling, it's a promise.

His hand reaches for your face, caressing your cheek. "I love you even more."

And you know he means it.

It doesn't have to be a wedding in itself. Ryujin's words have been going through your mind for weeks. She's right, it doesn't even have to be an actual wedding.

The truth is that, no matter how pressured you might have felt, right now you don't think about it as some kind of compromise to please everyone else, you don't even think about it as a way to fit in. It's more about something tangible and real to bind your lives forever. You couldn't care less about the white dress or the color of the napkins, but you want to be able to remember and celebrate the day you vowed to be together.

So you go looking for Hao and find him in his studio, painting some abstract thing you can't quite understand.

"Hey," you break the silence and his bubble of concentration.

He sets down the brush in his hand and walks straight to you. "Hey, darling," his voice caresses your lips before diving in and kissing you with the passion and fervor only he can muster. "Do you need something?"

"Not exactly," you grab one of the many empty canvases scattered around the studio and start painting whatever with the brush he was using. "I was thinking…"

Minghao walks toward you and engulfs you in a warm embrace with his chin resting on top of your head. He's humoring you. "About what, sweet angel?"

"Weddings," you answer, cleaning the brush in your arm. "Why people get married…"

"Is that so?" He grabs another brush and starts splattering red dots onto the blue circle you just made. "And do you think they do?"

"It's like a landmark," you state, but he notices your hand shaking slightly.

"And you think we need a landmark?" He asks while his hand settles on top of yours, guiding your brush.

You take a deep breath before answering. "We don't need it, but I think maybe I want it."

He stays silent for a couple of minutes, just like last time. "In that case, we have a lot of planning to do, don't you think?"

Ever since Josh read that message, he's been feeling uneasy. It's the most expetable outcome, really, but that doesn't mean he doesn't want to postpone it as much as possible. He's always been aware of the fact that Minghao is one of those few men who still date to marry, who still believe in building a future with his partner. Then why does he feel as if the earth has shattered under his feet?

It's almost as if life as he knows it is fading. And it's not like he's not happy, he's just overwhelmed with the series of changes; one after another. So he decides to take a fun approach.

"So," Josh starts, pouring himself a glass of wine, "how many cows are we talking about?"

Minghao's brain short-circuits. "What?"

"I'm thinking at least 50," Josh smirks. "And who's taking whose last name? Cause I think Hong is an amazing last name, but Hong Minghao sounds stupid."

Confusion is evident in Hao's face, but the creeping blush in his cheeks is not missed. "What the fuck are you going on about?"

Of course Joshua would come to this sort of conclusion, he thinks.

Josh looks at him, really looks at him, and his eyes are filled with fondness and something close to somberness. "I think we both know what you wanna talk about…"

Minghao's gaze softens, understanding coats his face, and he can't hide the smirk on his lips. "Josh, I'm not gonna ask for your sister's hand in marriage. Firstly, because we've been an official couple for less than a year, and secondly because this is not the 18th century, you idiot!"

He speaks with confidence, almost moking, but deep inside he wonders…

"So you don't appreciate my friendship enough to ask me?" Josh looks almost genuinely offended.

He sighs. "We both know I don't."

"Asshole." He downs his glass. "Then what do you wanna talk about?"

"Business," he states calmly. "A partnership of sorts."
