you see that little twitch his mouth does right at the very end of this gif. you see the little tug at the corner of his mouth. the anger that’s washing over him in this moment. he’s just found her, in whatever context they’re doing for the show, and he has not seen her face yet. he’s turned her around (my thinking) to face him and she punches his chest and shoves at him to get away because she thinks he’s one of them. but he grabs her face (so damn gently im biting myself) to hold her and to show her that it’s me. but what he isn’t expecting is the blood. the blood on her face. her bloody nose. you see his eyes dart back and forth because he’s seeing this and taking it all in and realizing what’s happened to her. not the full extent of it all, but enough to know that these fuckers hurt his little girl enough to make her nose bleed and instill this fear in her. and it makes him furious. and that twitch of his mouth is cut. it’ll just get bigger once we get the whole scene. it’s just like episode 5 when henry shot at joel’s feet and joel damn near growled at henry for preventing him from reaching out and protecting and comforting ellie. and in this moment, he’s seeing what’s been done to her and he sees red.

How to handle seeing things you don't like on ao3:
Have you come across something too disturbing for you to handle on ao3? Like maybe somebody having sex in a position that isnt missionary? 😱 shocking, I know. Did someone maybe engage in mild bdsm? The absolute horror! Did two aged up characters do more than a kiss on the cheek??? The utter depravity. Well do I have a solution for you! It's an easy two step process. Step one is to find the back button. If you find yourself in a mildly uncomfortable position while reading a fanfic, you have the power to stop ❌ press the back button 🔙 and find a new fic that doesnt have such scary concepts 🔞. Step 2 is a little harder because I know you're nosy and think you know what's best for every person on the planet. But I still believe in you! You can do it! You can learn to mind your own damn business and walk away! If you see something you don't like, it's literally not your problem. Let me give you a personal example: there are people out there who still like the show breaking bad, which I found completely unwatchable. But you know what? It's none of my damn business, it's literally not my problem! I have learned that not every piece if media is made for every person, and that's not only ok, but a good thing! You too can learn to mind your own damn business and move on with your life. I promise it's not as hard as it sounds
