the absolute devastating intimacy of a forehead rest. when you are both just so tired from existing in a world that demands you to be a rigid, functional individual, and you finally collapse into each other and just lean your forehead against theirs, or against their shoulder. it’s the physical equivalent of dropping your shields. it’s saying i am entirely heavy right now, and i am trusting you to bear a piece of that weight. and the most beautiful part is that the other person doesn’t even flinch. they just adjust their stance, tuck you a little closer, and absorb the impact. we were designed to divide the burden of being alive.

He was a child soldier, and that’s something that is always a lovely experience and bodes well for one’s mental health. He was also the one, the only one ever, to do it as an over-feeler. He’d scream at any instance of touch—splattered blood on his cheek, the graze of someone’s breath on his neck, and every step he took. His mother could never physically comfort him; his father needed him to perform, and perform well. He performed his first execution at seven years old. He led the VO before he was sixteen. Between that, his mother dies.

What would that do to a kid?

The facade he builds up is seen through. One woman sees past the renowned and feared, “Butcher” and looks into his eyes, not through the visor of his helmet, and sees Vance.

He’s a liar and a drinker and a murderer and a scoffer and a griever and a threatener and a man who doesn’t understand the role he’s thrust into, and he doesn’t like that.
