Kalafina at 『Billboard Live presents Piano Duo Session #10 Win Morisaki×Satoshi Takebe』
Yesterday, on May 9th, Kalafina went to see a Billboard Live featuring a Piano Duo Session between Win Morisaki and Satoshi Takebe (Source). Kalafina performed together with Win Morisaki at “Ghibli wo Utau” Concert Vol.#2. They sang a cover of Itsumo Nando Demo (“Spirited Away”). The Tokyo concert will be broadcast on TV at the end of this month so we can all look forward to seeing their collaboration!
Keiko FC Live Stream on Bitfan
The other day, Keiko tried to do her very first impromptu live stream on Bitfan for her fan club members. She basically wanted to start her Keiko Kitchen Video series which she had hinted at in her last FC exclusive live stream. Unfortunately, she couldn't figure it out so she had to postpone the whole thing to another day. Today will be another attempt but it's mostly just a trial, we'll see if it works. Those who have time and are registered fan club members, feel free to tune in. She may or may not archive the video so it's probably for the best to watch it in real time. Update: The video was archived successfully. For some reason, it is not visible in the app. There was also no notification for the stream on the app. Keiko and her staff members will have to figure that out for future live streams. In the meantime, she will always post the broadcast link on Yodel/Instagram so people know where to go. We can look forward to many more streams like this one. She wants to share lots of private stuff at home or when she travels (which she will do soon).
To commemorate the release of the second tribute album, “Ghibli wo Utau/Singing Ghibli Vol.#2,” two special concerts are held in Tokyo as well as Osaka. Interview With Hikaru
– The three of you got together for the first time in about seven years to hold "Kalafina Anniversary LIVE 2025" last year. It's already been a year since then, what are your thoughts looking back on it now?
It's been such a long time since the three of us stood on stage together, and I had this feeling of "yes!! This is it!” It's strange because even though at the end of the day a live is a live, the feeling of a solo live and a Kalafina live are completely different. Of course, it's all about the harmony of three members, so positions are different from my solo performances, but when I am singing with the two of them together, I naturally become Kalafina Hikaru! It was so ingrained in me that it surprised me. However, after a seven-year gap, I had to recapture the way I sing and deliver my music as Kalafina's Hikaru, so that performance was the result of working so hard towards the day of the performance. However, I did feel regretful that I could have done a little more, so I'm happy that we are getting another chance to sing together as a trio again at the upcoming anniversary lives. I hope to deliver Kalafina's music and our harmony in a manner that has evolved and deepened even more compared to the previous live.
– Keiko, who I spoke to earlier, said that when you were waiting on stage just before the performance, she wasn’t nervous at all, and she told you and Wakana, who were feeling nervous that it’s all going to be okay.
Yes, that’s right! (laughs) The three of us were standing behind the gauze curtain, and Keiko said with a smile, "I'm not nervous at all," and I was like, “really?!” I'm the type that gets nervous easily, and at that time I felt the pressure of having to show everyone the Kalafina they had so desperately waited for. We each have our own achievements in solo activities, but everyone who came to the live concert that day had come because they wanted to see Kalafina! I felt a heavy weight of responsibility for carrying a part of that group. But I was also very happy that I wasn't alone, so I kept looking at Keiko and Wakana, thinking, "Look at them and calm down...!" It's a view you can't enjoy when you're performing solo. Thinking back on it now, I was really nervous of course, but at the same time I also felt very calm inside.
– The moment the gauze curtain fell, cheers of joy rang out from the audience.
The excitement was there. I honestly didn't know what kind of reaction we would get. That moment was exhilarating, and seeing everyone who had come in person, hearing their cheers, and being in the same space as all of them was truly overwhelming. It was our first live performance in about seven years, so what was striking was that there were more new people in the audience than I had expected. People who had heard of Kalafina after we had already disbanded, and people who couldn't go to our concerts back then but were finally able to make it now, they all came to see us. I was also really grateful to all the veteran fans who created a wonderful atmosphere by welcoming these newcomers so warmly. That live performance was meant for that day, it was a once in a lifetime experience and we thought we would never be able to gather like this again so it was a truly precious time.
– And now the three of you will get the chance to sing together again.
Simply put, it's fun to sing with Keiko and Wakana. Singing solo and collaborating with others is fun and interesting, but there's definitely music that can only be brought to life when I am singing together with Wakana and Keiko. We have built up a lot of experience and cultivated it in our time as Kalafina. All three of us are doing solo activities now, which has allowed us to take a different approach than before, and there's an interesting chemical reaction in our harmonies so we thought, "This is what we can do together now so let’s do it." I actually felt that I wanted to express a little more of myself through Kalafina, things that I wasn’t able to do on a technical level in the past. But now, through my solo activities, I've become able to do a lot more things so I want to incorporate that into Kalafina's music. Kalafina's music is very meticulously crafted, so there isn't much freedom in the vocals, but within that range, I want to do the best I can.
– You've gained a lot from your solo music career.
Since I started my solo activities, I have a strong sense of building up my music as Hikaru while communicating more closely with everyone who supports me. There are some limitations to what I can do, but at the same time, there is also a lot of freedom. I think that as a solo artist, I am suited to activities that allow me to steadily create a path of my own choosing where I can walk together with my supporters.
– When you started working solo, what did you find was the biggest difference from working in a group?
When it comes to live performances, I've been talking a lot more! I used to only be able to introduce merchandise (laughs).
– I am really looking forward to the merchandise introduction time.
I still feel uncomfortable speaking, but I'm doing better than back in the day when my voice was so inaudible on our radio broadcasts that it sounded like an accident whenever I muttered a few words! (laughs)
– As a solo artist, you not only take on the front stage as an artist, but you also take on the role of a behind-the-scenes staff member, creating music and preparing for live tours.
That's right. Through my solo activities, I have once again come to feel deeply grateful for the staff members who support us and who put their heart and soul into creating something together..By fulfilling each role, we can produce the best outcome for each day. Just like with each and every audience member, if even one member of the staff is missing, the end result would be different. Being able to come together is the most precious thing, and it makes us happy. Kalafina's anniversary live was made possible thanks to each and every staff member who helped us and did their best. I am truly grateful. I want to honour every contribution and not let anything go to waste. I want to make everyone happy - the audience members, the band members, the staff who work with us, and everyone else involved. I want everyone to think it was worth the effort. That feeling has only gotten stronger with time.
– As you have gained a variety of experiences, including appearing in stage productions, has your attitude or way of dealing with "music" changed?
Originally, my singing style was what's known as 'immersive style,' where I would basically become the characters in the songs and express them. But after performing in stage plays, I feel like I've started to think more deeply about how I can express the subtle movements of emotions in abstract music, and how much I need to express so that everyone can enjoy the music and performance without anything feeling out of place. In a live performance, I can change the story and expression to a certain extent on the spot, while watching the expressions of the audience and sensing the atmosphere. On the other hand, on stage, I can keep the story firmly in place by changing the nuances slightly based on my interactions with the other actors. While I am always 'standing on stage and expressing myself,' I feel like there are some big differences within myself when it comes to stage plays and live performances.
– I see.
When I'm on stage, I want to play roles that I can only play because of my musical background, and when I'm performing live, I try to be conscious of the kind of performances that I can only do because of my stage experience.
– What aspects of Kalafina's singing are reflected in this?
When it comes to live performance, I'm not alone, so I'm trying to balance it out with the other two members so there are parts where I change the subtle nuances of my emotions. I feel like I've dug deeper into my emotions than before, and that even the way I move my fingers and the fluctuations of my emotions have changed a little. I'm Kalafina’s Hikaru of course, but it’s not like I haven't accumulated anything in the past seven years. The same goes for the other two. It was so much fun singing together as a trio for the first time in seven years, and there are some things about us that are different from back then so that makes me excited.
– There's an unwavering nature to Kalafina, and yet your harmony also conveys the journey of the three members. Having sung it again, what do you think is the appeal of Kalafina's music?
I feel that Kalafina's music is about highlighting the charms of the three members' voices and expressing the worldview of the songs. The three of us have voices and expressions that are so different that it seems they might never cross paths, but when we sing together as if holding hands, our voices naturally start overlapping and become one. But at the same time, they never lose their individuality. There is a special sound that can only be created when I am together with the other two members.
– It seems that the three of you are currently discussing and deciding the setlist for "Kalafina Anniversary LIVE 2026."
That's right! This time there are more profound songs that are suitable for an anniversary live, and that means there's a lot for me to do...I see Kalafina’s music as being made up of "Heaven", "Earth" and "Humanity". As the person in charge of Humanity, I'll do my best by adding a little colour to the world! For each song, the divine powers of Wakana descend from the heavens to create a beautiful world, and the earthly strength of Keiko carries this world with a mighty roar, while in between, various people are living their lives in full swing, experiencing a vast spectrum of human emotion, joy, anger, sorrow and happiness.
– Kalafina's Heaven, Earth and Humanity! That’s such an apt description.
Right now, I'm researching every day to see how I can bring out the best in every song. There are many points I want to clarify for myself.
– I'm looking forward to the harmony you can create now.
I think the people who came to Kalafina's live shows back in the day will know the unique joys of attending live performances compared to listening to studio music.I hope we can deliver an upgraded version of this special "live feeling" during the upcoming concerts. There are things you can only experience in Kalafina music, right? I want to deepen that experience even further. The setlist is also very classic - there are a lot of staples from our regular grand menu, but I also want to keep everyone guessing what the seasonal menu will be like! The menu may change from day to day.
– It seems like we'll be able to hear some different songs from last year's festive live performance.
It's truly a miracle that we're able to do what we weren't able to do before, just like last year. If it weren’t for our history and us being together, we wouldn’t be able to create this music now.
– I felt the same thing when I visited you the other day for the pamphlet photo shoot. Whether it’s photos or a worldview, it all comes together beautifully as soon as the three of you are reunited.
It's strange, isn't it? When all three of us are together, the atmosphere just naturally takes on that vibe. I really become Kalafina’s Hikaru. It's definitely different from the way I dress now. For this shoot, I wore a vintage white dress to bring out the gothic, classical atmosphere of Kalafina. For a personal touch, I added some chunky accessories and black boots to accentuate the strong rock image of my solo activities.
– Finally, please share a message for those reading this pamphlet and those looking forward to the live show.
Thank you to everyone who is coming to the concert, to everyone who can’t make it but supports us from afar, and to everyone who picks up this pamphlet! Some general thoughts: The setlist is honestly S-tier!!!😍So many of my faves and only a few songs that I don’t particularly care for!!! The music was often way too loud unfortunately and the microphone volume wasn’t even for the girls at times so their infamous harmony wasn’t harmosing😅But these are minor issues. I am sure they will fix it for the broadcast. I am also hopeful that they will listen to some of today’s feedback so that they can improve a few things for tomorrow’s live🙏Also can’t wait to see which songs will be exchanged. Hope they keep my faves🙏Will write a more detailed report on Frisay or Saturday m👍

The girls are busy rehearsing these days and Keiko is posting some potential setlist hints in her story. Yesterday, her story had "Magia (Quattro)" as background audio, today's story has "Eden". At this point there is no doubt in my mind that they are working on a project. They are clearly meeting in an office space, most likely at Space Craft. Keiko shared two more adorable shots on Yodel. Just look at them laughing!! I am in heaven🥹
Are they preparing for another Anniversary Live? Or maybe they are planning to do something different, like an acoustic live? I would be so excited if they decided to hold a little acoustic tour in December.
On a side note, I'd really enjoy it if they created some fun content for their respective YouTube channels. Someone needs to let them do some cool covers. Could be Kalafina songs, or self-covers of each other's solo work, or just some popular songs.
