current hyperfixations 🖤
always everyone else’s fault
New year, same old Jimmy let’s go 💪
I love that the villain of Mouthwashing is not some outer space monster, it's not a science experiment broken free from a lab, it's not even a man with an obvious stereotypical mental illness.
It's a man with self esteem problems. A selfish cowardly man who so badly wanted to be praised for doing the bare minimum. A man who let envy bite through the hand that fed him. Cause sometimes the worst monsters are the ones that are the most human. And everyone died and suffered because one man (Curly this time) kept making excuses for that one weak link (Jimmy).
I also love that the crew in Mouthwashing didn't die because Jimmy went around hacking them up. They died because of his poor leadership decisions. The leadership that he so badly believed that he could do better than Curly.
- Anya was already stressed out from the assault and she was on the edge of a mental breakdown, Jimmy responded to that by shouting at her. 💀 Girl chugged down that pill bottle like it was water.
- Daisuke was an intern, he just did whatever he was told, eager to impress Jimmy. Jimmy says climb the vents, Daisuke climbed the vents. The vents collapsed on Daisuke.
Jimmy then tries to disinfect the wound with Mouthwashing, mind you Anya had earlier mentioned that using the chemical would only make wounds worse. Swansea reminded him of this. Jimmy ignores him. Proceeds to aggravate Daisuke's wounds so bad they Swansea has to mercy kill him.
- Swansea is an old man and 'life in prison' does not mean so much to him anymore. Plus, Jimmy has stepped on his last nerve. Swansea tries to kill Jimmy. Jimmy shoots him.
A domino of events that look like accidents, all avoidable if Jimmy listened, if Jimmy calmed down, if Jimmy did not act so darned arrogant and demanding all the darn time. And now he's left in a ship of corpses, but Curly is still there........
So Jimmy does what he does best.
He blames Curly (and then Jimmy finally has a mental breakdown).
Semi-unrelated but I think all these reasons make Jimmy’s death just so beautiful in Mouthwashing
It’s Jimmy’s final selfish action and way to avoid the consequences of what he’s done while he’s still convinced it’s a good thing.
He thinks he’s making a Nobel sacrifice, that’s he’s doing everything for the greater good when in reality he’s just making life worse without thinking, because what’s going to happen to curly when he wakes up in 20 years and nobody find him? Curly is going to starve to death slowly and painfully.
I think subconsciously he knows this (I fully believe Jimmy is operating on a subconscious vs conscious), but still chooses to do it anyway because
1. Doesn’t want to prove anyone else right, he was the one who insisted on keeping curly alive and if he were to let him die that just admit it all be for nothing.
2. What happens if they do find Jimmy? How is he going to answer the question of what happened on the Tuplar? Sure he can lie and claim it was all just freak accident one after another, and that he killed swansea in self defense, but Jimmy doesn’t think that far ahead enough to plan out a lie and story, he’s just knows he indirectly killed everyone (and directly killed swansea).
Let’s propose a hypothetical and say Jimmy considered keeping Swansea alive and letting him enter the cryopod, Jimmy knows that Swansea hates him and won’t hesitate to say the truth when asked. That’s why Jimmy couldnt let Swansea be the one in the cryopod, he’s had to have it be the silent person who couldn’t answer and say the horrors that went down on the ship
(Also curly is Jimmy’s best friend so obviously he choose him over swansea but again subconscious vs conscious yk)
throught out the entire game he act without thinking and assuming it would magically all fall into place for him, and look what happened. That line of (not) thinking has gotten everyone on the ship killed.
It also can be seen as a last attempt at control. It’s the only thing he can truly influence or do in this situation. We all know Jimmy yearns to control every situation, so he’s most likely trying to take it in the only way possible.
Also the fact that whatever “Mercy” he gives to curly is always in sharp contrast to what he did to Swansea. Jimmy was most likely going to kill himself no matter what, but if Swansea killed him then he wouldn’t be remembered as someone great, he would be remembered as who he actually was.
The fact that in the end he can’t even look Curly in the eye and walks away. Realistically it’s most likely out of a ‘I don’t want to kill myself infront of my best friend’ situation, but from an analysis POV I feel that can be seen as Jimmy choosing to look away from the consequences of his actions one final time.
Sorry for rambling under your ramble post
My favorite Tolkien illustrations by Cor Blok in no particular order:
Bilbo and Gollum. Bilbo is the moon for some reason which is cool i guess
Smeagol and Deagol. I love the seaweed in the background, great attention to detail
Frodo serving Robin Hood-realness at his and Bilbo’s birthday party. Literally iconic
Isildur taking the ring from Sauron. Its great but I would like to see more of Sauron than just his hand, because I think he has the potential to look really cool
Pippin jumping into the bath at Crickhollow… no comment
Bilbo gives the Mithril coat to Frodo. Great poses, very stiff and awkward. I like it.
The fellowship. This one is a classic.
Gandalf and the balrog. Amazing
Boromir trying to take the ring from Frodo. I love the way he reaches for his sword, it looks very natural
Merry and Pippin and Treebeard. I like his legs and the fact that it looks like he’s wearing shorts.
The battle of Helms Deep. This one is just great for a lot of reasons. I like how the orcs in the background are just happy and sad smileys. Gimli is throwing a rock at them. I don’t know who the guy with a red hat is in the background, but I love him.
Gandalf, Theoden, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli finding Merry and Pippin in Isengard ft fucked up Shadowfax. Look at them smiling!
Sam, Frodo and Gollum. Frodo got rid of his Robin Hood hat which is a shame, but Gollum with a beak makes up for it.
Eowyn protecting Theoden from the Witch King. The fellbeast is a crow or perhaps a raven. Merry is hanging on the side, stabbing Witch King in the leg and he looks amazing
Mt Doom. Frodo looks very chill about getting his finger bit off, and Sam is just kind of floating there. I love everything about Gollum
Tolkien was ahead of his time
I love the idea that these two unironically and accidentally do the high five / fist combo bc they’re clueless ToT
My first time drawing these two, aka one of the funniest duos ever. SO WELCOME, Gimli, to my page (ᵔᴥᵔ)
Wanted to expand into more LOTR characters, BUT I did say I was going to draw Tauriel in a post a couple days ago so she’s going to be coming up next ;0)
Hannibal is really interesting, he acts either as something similar to the God/Satan or he's overly animalistic, therefore he balances that out and we can safely say he is still very much human, right?
Ok so let me illustrate it like this
And Hannibal is something like this
no no no bc will asking hannibal, “how do you see me?” in episode one is so insane bc he wouldn’t have asked just anybody that. he was not inviting the scrutiny of anyone and i mean anyone. he didn’t want people to perceive him. the way he dresses, his glasses, his biting wit, his teacher persona… they’re all methods of self-protection to keep people from looking too closely. but he asks hannibal what he sees bc he really wants to know, and hannibal, who he has just met, doesn’t even hesitate to tell will something that no one else ever has before. something dangerous, something powerful said with admiration. with a smile.
side by side
Petition to draw Gimli as a sheep?
This has been sitting in my drafts for far too long
I fear I'm reading lotr for the wrong reason...
Your pretty face has been smudged.
Thinking about these two. A LOT
I like to imagine for Gimli “elf traits” slowly become “Legolas traits” until he’s in too deep.
Mini comic style thingy fueled by 2am hype only. Dont mind me not deciding on the faces i r u s h ed
hey jirt what the fuck did you mean by this
