the runthrough episode where ashley and adam cover 2024 gpf and they get mad at kaori mone and wakaba happily doing amber's ending pose of her free skate to congratulate her on winning is funny to me in many ways but the best thing about it is that ashley's audio gets fucked up in that section and she starts speaking like she's turned into an evil robot overlord who wants to destroy humanity because the skaters are too friendly with each other now

adam saying "now i know this is rich coming from somebody who barely won" and dissolving into fits of laughter while explaining that he couldn't do quads got way funnier to me going to his wiki page and looking at the competitive highlights

#they sound like they're overexaggerating their disgust at the camaraderie to be funny but i still VASTLY disagree w their take lol #like adam said getting beat at competitions motivated him to want to do better #and i still think that this can perfectly coexist with being happy for your competitors when they do well #like amber has done interviews talking abt how she wants to find the freedom she brings to her gala programs #in her competitive programs and you can tell that it's because of seeing alysa's success and wanting to be more like her #and of course we know that no one on earth is happier about alysa winning than amber was but that also doesn't mean that #she's happy with placing 5th or 6th and no longer wants to do the best she can #figure skating

i think what i really love about ashley's free skates (black swan and moulin rouge) is that they're so structured they have these shifting moods that flow seamlessly from one another and it's like i'm watching a story unfold. usually i like watching short programs more because it's easier to structure and build to a climax and it's harder to do that w a free skate w so many jumping passes but ashley keeps my attention RAPT i really am on the edge of my seat while watching them
