"Nonshippers" or "Neutrals" are really out here saying without a hint of satire that Hollow is both about every person, both living and dead in Cloud's life, and that Hollow is also from Zack’s perspective but only about Aerith. Even though Zack lost multiple people he cared for and has people who are alive that he cares for too.

For some completely unknown reason, this "Hollow is about multiple people" rule used on Cloud doesn’t apply to Zack, when if they were at all being consistent, it should involve every person in his DMW. Including the summons.

They, our "nonshippers". Our "neutrals". Our "lore masters" who are (NOT) shippers. Because they do (NOT) care about ships. Who understand the story better because they don't treat the game as a dating sim.

Can only see the connection between Hollow and Aerith (by herself, no other people involved) if the song is sung from Zack’s perspective. Even though the devs explicitly state this Cloud's song.

Final Fantasy VII Remake - Hollow

From the starting guitar and harmonica, 'Hollow' immediately strikes a lonely and regretful tone. The main theme song of FFVII Remake (2020) wastes no time in delving into Cloud's perspective to explore vulnerability here that the audience is not usually afforded with him. As a song meant to embody the mindset and emotions of its topical character, the rock-ballad gives voice to the acute pain that Cloud has suffered throughout his life.

The instrumental itself brings to mind a long, weary journey, searching the whole world for some kind of peace while the lyrics linger on his regret for losing someone due to his own short comings. Reportedly, Uematsu composed the instrumental off the key imagery of Cloud in the rain, "lost in thought" while Nojima interpreted the lyrical perspective to be that of "a man who has lost something important".

For Cloud, he clearly will go on "howling and hollow" due to this acute loss and never find the peace he's searching for.
