"Who were you with?" (Rabastan)
The front door had barely closed when the question was asked. An accusatory tone, the words rang in Alecto’s ears. She drew her hand back from the door handle, slowly turning to face the man standing before her. Piercing blue eyes looked him up and down, pink lips pursing. ‘Why exactly is that any of your business?’ She asked, her eyebrow quirking for a second as she began to unfasten her winter coat.
a-beautiful-evil:
It was late at night and Alecto had left the house early that morning. She’d been out all day, busy with important prior engagements for most of it. She had always been the kind of woman to do what she wanted, never having to check in with anyone. Even at Hogwarts she had disappeared off into the grounds at the dead of night just because she had felt like it. This was one of the things Alecto hated about living with another person. There were times when she felt as though her actions were under scrutiny.
Her hands unfastened the buttons on her coat, her eyes moving away from Rabastan to watch her hands. She turned from him, hanging her coat on a hanger whilst listening to his words. A line burrowed deep in her forehead, her eyes narrowing. Alecto began to walk into the living room, her high heels rapping on the floor. She ignored the man in the chair. ‘You may be my fiancé, but I’m not your wife, it is not your business as to where I am or where I choose to go,’ she replied, her voice cool. Undoing the cap off a whiskey bottle she poured herself a glass. ‘You’re not my master.’ Glancing over her shoulder she met his eyes for a second. 'Even if I’ve called you it under completely different circumstances.’
“Like it or not, you’ve gotten us into this mess,” Rabastan sighed, finishing off the rest of his glass. “You might not be my wife but unless you’d like everyone to know that this whole arrangement is nothing but a farce, I’d suggest you handle yourself with at least some discretion.” Rabastan bit his lip, thinking of his parents, his brother. What they might say should they find out that this whole thing had been nothign but a lie. Rab could hear his brother’s mocking laughter already, hear the disproval in his father’s voice. His grip tightened on the glass.
A wry smile twisted up the corner of his lips as Rabastan stood. “Oh?” he laughed softly, something that might have intimidated anyone else. “And here I thought you liked it. I wouldn’t say the circumstances were so different. One comes with marriage, of course.”
Rabastan was right of course, Alecto had been the one to get the both of them into this ridiculous situation. Her Mother had been pestering her about marriage for years, but when the older Carrow had actually begun to meet with the parents of potential suitors Alecto had panicked. At a ball earlier in the year she'd taken a joke from a friend saying he was the perfect man and ran with it, dragging him into a fake engagement without any warning or consent. Living in this house with this man was the only reason she had any liberty left, and no one could possibly find out that behind closed doors their situation was most different to what the pair presented to the outside world. 'I wasn't out participating in gang bangs and having my photograph taken in comprising situations, most unfortunately,' she quipped, raising her glass of whiskey and taking a sip. Her activities for the day provided no threat to the lie she was comfortable living.
At the sight of his smile she restrained one of her own, her stomach warming but her face remaining neutral. She shrugged a shoulder, stirring her long blonde hair. 'One circumstance is a lot more pleasurable than the alternative, the only similarity is my submission.'
