It's just absolutely wild and upsetting to me how polarized the Clique seems to be, especially lately, considering we're ultimately just having endless discourse about two guys from Ohio, that I probably could have gone to school with in a different timeline.

They both have Christian backgrounds, and that will inevitably play into the art they make, in different ways; You just can't erase that. Does that mean religion is all they write about, and they're secretly a worship band? No! Does that mean they're not allowed to also have any kind of relationship with each other that they want, regardless of what label they choose to put on it, and present their gender expression in "non-traditional" ways sometimes if they so choose, while still occasionally writing about Christian things? Again, no!

They're human beings. They're contradictory, and complex, and that's wonderful. It's fine!

it's definitely gotten very polarised recently. I think people often forget many things can coexist with each other and still be true. Ephi and I discussed this a couple days ago, the lens you put on the band and their music does not change the inherent meaning of something they said/wrote. and to be able to differentiate your lens and the inherent meaning, is a very important skill to have when interacting with other fans. and a lot of fans can't seem to wrap their head around this, and even more irritatingly, cannot seem to find the right place to express their lens. my specific comment section for that piece (i assume that's what prompted you to send this ask) shouldn't be a place for people to argue about the religious lens and romantic lens because both sides need to realise that josh and tyler love each other, and have loved each other for a ridiculously long time, especially considering it started at a very volatile stage of the band and their personal life. It is very rare you see a two piece like them and for it to last as long as they have. and such partnership would not have happened if they did not love each other at the very core of it. even beyond their passion for music. and the point of the art was to celebrate that in an rawer view. whether you think there's no way they'e not making out on the regular or not. whether you think their faith has played a large role in all of this or not. Celebrating the band, and his love for tyler. That is the inherent meaning of josh's tweet and by extension, the piece. because the piece itself is so genuinely neutral it's literally just two photos-turned-into-drawings of them and the tweet splatted on top. with a focus on josh. because the tweet is from josh. don't come in to tell me that you think josh is wrong and he didn't mean it when he wrote the tweet. do you want me to call josh myself?? do you want me to cancel josh dun for loving tyler joseph??? also. have you never loved your friends that deeply <-- somehow applicable to both sides?? it was kinda ironic to see hate on the famous for loving you piece :P
