THE HUNGER GAMES (2012) directed by Gary Ross.
I just saw the girl at the Hob when she was just a baby. Burdock was so proud of her, he toted her around everywhere. After he died in that mine explosion, she started coming alone, trading the odd squirrel or rabit. Tough and smart, her hair in two braids then, reminding me for all the world of Louella McCoy, my sweetheart of old.

“It’s spring, you’re young, you’re lovely, you have a right to be happy. Come back into the world.”
— Shirley Jackson, We Have Always Lived in the Castle
I think it's actually essential to children's moral development to be exposed to short stories moderately beyond their reading level where a bunch of fucked up shit happens and then instead of offering a moral lesson or any sort of emotional or narrative resolution it just ends.

Well, there’s one thing. They can’t order me to stop dreaming.
thank you ao3 for being an archive and not an algorithm. thank you for letting me like things without consequences, thank you for being free with no ads, thank you for having lawyers to defend our freedom of speech. thank you tag wranglers. thank you to all authors and thank you ao3
AO3 should have an Annotation Mode where you can click to view all of the author's commentary and thoughts about certain parts of the work. A little comment that says "I spent five hours researching vintage radio mechanics for this and didn't even end up using it" or "this is an ancient Hebrew literary technique!" would make my day
“I will tell you something: it helps me, in difficult times, to think of Jesus’ tears, of when He cried when He saw Jerusalem, of when He wept at the tomb of Lazarus. God has wept for me, God weeps, He weeps for our pain. Because God became man - a spiritual writer used to say - to be able to weep. To think that Jesus is weeping with me while I suffer is a consolation: it helps us to go forward.”
- Pope Francis
