Yves is actually an old character of mine that I’m excited to goof around with in an RPG! His main story is like uhhh…a 60s suburbia murder cult bug detective story so I dunno how much of that will be able to survive in this particular setting, but it’ll be fun either way.
Ahh classes, the backbone of where the character fits in the story. The lot in life to where the character’s life has led them. Be it the bard who accidentally discovered magically talent upon plucking the harp, or the cleric whose decades of prayer and dedication were finally recognized. Let me preface this post by saying I love all the classes. Except, maybe, sorcerers..... I love MOST of the classes at the very least, but, my favorite? Well...
FIGHTERS!!!
But of course, ‘tis fighters that top my list! The archer atop the stone barricade, the gladiator being praised from the colosseum stands, the general deadly with both blade and spell, fighters, one and all! The versatility, the utility, the capability!
Fighters are great because they are the most welcoming to new players with the simplicity of the Champion archetype, but can also still be engaging for the players who require a character with more moving parts, such as the Eldritch Knight and Battle Master archetypes. Not to mention the great new additions of Arcane Archer, Cavalier, and Samurai from Xanather’s Guide!

Of course, this is coming from someone who only just recently began playing a full caster, my Aasimar War Magic Wizard, Stone (you can see I still clearly have my favorite themes), and it’s been a tone of fun so far! So we’ll have to see, if I do next D&December like this one, my answer just might change!
So, seeing as I am a week late to D&December, I have some catching up to do! First up is my favorite race in D&D, followed later by my favorite class. From the Forgotten Realms, to Eberron, to Greyhawk, to Exandria, to aaaallllll the other official settings and homebrew content, there are so so many fun and fascinating walks of sentient life. But which race of fantasy peoples do I hold closest to heart?
The answer? Goliaths!
Okay, the first thing you need to know about me is that I love playing characters of a particular type. What type is that you may ask? HUGE DUDES. I know playing the muscle isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I love the idea of playing the towering intimidator (whether or not they have the heart to back that up), the man who can lift his enemies high above his head and toss them like a ratty doll! I mean, just look at them-
So, naturally the goliaths would hold my favor. The strong, stoic men and women of the mountains, who favor competition and fair play above all else! You want something? Fight for it! Not to mention the complete disregard and actual disdain they hold toward gender roles-
“ Goliaths see females and males as equal in all things, and they find societies with roles divided by gender to be puzzling or worthy of mockery. To a goliath, the person who is best at a job should be the one tasked with doing it.”
Need I say more?
But you didn’t think it was only Goliaths, did you? Oh no no no, there are far too many races in D&D for me to pick just one! I could hardly narrow it down to these two, I have a fondness for most every race in the game. Venture forth!
Dragonborn!
Okay, okay, I’ll be the first to admit that this one probably comes from a place of bias as my first real D&D character was a Dragonborn (Technically! Fun fact: the first time I played D&D was with a friend, his brother, and his dad, when I was in middle school. We used his dad’s old D&D stuff from 2nd edition and I played a human cleric (who knew magic missile? Somehow?). But this was for a single night and I’m pretty sure he died, so!). But! Bias aside, how can anyone not like Dragonborn? Ancient descendants of the powerful beings for which the game gets its name? Your choice of combinations of scales, sharp teeth, claws, tails, horns, and wings? Not to mention attacks that feature breath of the elemental damage rainbow?

The third D&December has begun! One of my favorite times of the year, and of course I’m late! Also, since I find myself lacking in terms of creative skills, I will simply be using this wonderful schedule to discuss the various D&D related topics! The best thing about a new player in the group is not knowing what to expect. Especially when that thing you’re not expecting is a paladin with negative charisma opening up relations with his prison cellmate by saying, “Sooo, got my bed over here. You got yours over there… Goodnight.”
