As there are only 38 minutes of 2020 left for me, I'd like to thank you all for coming on this journey with me. I started my tumblr at the start of lockdown in March and I could not have imagined this page, where I (try to) uploaded a desk picture five times a week, to grow to the page that it has become.
Thank you and I hope 2021 is going to be a better year for all of us! 🎆

It’s been ages since I’ve posted original content, so here’s my study stuff from today! Reviewing gastroenterology content from the start of the year using Master The Boards Step 2 CK
5.18.2020 - Monday
Everything has changed but my stress levels 🙃
05.01.2020 // we all make mistakes. two days ago i was treating 6 plates of cells with over 30 different combinations of treatments and despite hours of planning and doing all my calculations beforehand, i messed up. there was no way to move forward without having dubious data and thus wasting the downstream assays these samples were for (assays that cost over $1000/each x2). so, i tossed the plates, and i’m going to start over next week. it was disappointing for sure, especially considering how much time and effort i had already spent, but experiments need to be done right. i immediately emailed my PI and owned up to my mistake. she, of course, was super understanding, and together we worked on a plan to mitigate errors for next time.
I hope in 2020 you get to write that thing you’ve been wanting to write, and you write it amazingly.

Hope your weekend started smoothly.
Spent some time studying with my flatmate in the library. Then went to class. Then spent too much time studying at home. I am tired.

It's so much easier to be productive in the morning but all of my classes are early in the day 🌅
So my lab is trying to get one of the rooms we used for tissue culture converted into a certified room for animal testing. Today the PI came running through the lab and said some inspection ppl were coming to check out the room and to hide all evidence of food and drink. The mad dash to make it seem as if we were a lab that followed the rules was comical
I have my first grad school exam today! Super nervous. Word on the street is that nobody passes
me: hey i finished analyzing the 92 histology slide images that took me 2 days to take pics of and then i spend another week carefully counting probably around 50-100 osteoblasts and 10-20 osteoclasts per image phew i’m glad i finished early and have like 15 more days until these revisions are due
PI: yeaaahhhh about thaaaaaat i just realizedddddd you did it alllllll wronggg

09.30.19 // pics from last week! it rained on and off for like 3 days straight it was a fantastic start to fall. also, i do not recommend doing 24 midi-preps at once. thankfully the DNA turned out ok but man was that not fun. also, note to self: do not label the actual columns (despite there being a frosted area for labels) because if stuff drip off the sides, the permanent marker ink could get centrifuged into the tube. makes for pretty pics but it did make me say “YIKES” out loud and that’s never a word you want to say in lab.

I just got my first first author paper accepted with minor reviews! And reviewer # 2 said it was well written 😍😍😍 AND they want me to hurry up on the revisions to push it into the next issue
Life update: grad school is hard and I’m sad??
And I totally know that I read about these feelings but I thought reading/being aware of the emotional toll would be helpful in combating this but it was not.
