Sometimes I don’t use references, sometimes I use a lot. It depends on how well I understand the subject matter and it depends on my mood as well.

Yes, I do think about the context somewhat. I do try to imply a narrative in many of my pieces.

Thank you, unfortunately I don’t really have any work on any store. I’m just a student atm (soon to be unemployed), right now I just draw to get better to hopefully make a comic someday.

There’s really no reason why you can’t study both at the same time. Variety is nice, and it makes studying less boring too.
