I’m so done with intentional allegory. Enough of the “fantasy and sci fi should hold up a mirror to society” status quo. Maybe it’s just me but as soon as I realize a book is a direct allegory of some real life issue I check out. It seems intended to make me think about real life and the fiction at the same time. It ruins any chance a story has of being immersive.
I prefer it if I am encouraged to focus on the story, not continuously compare plot and character developments to real world headlines.
And sometimes you just need a bad guy who is a bad guy. They don’t all need to “have a point.”
working at a super market?
Slaying a spire
Unlicensed monster hunting
Either bug catching or collecting candle wax
Creating an illegal dried blueberry monopoly
Attempting to create a cult, but failing at it.
Uh oh
Attempting to kill someone with a shotgun but forgetting what round is in the chamber and shooting myself in the head
Picking up three granades that were floating on the floor while fucking running, slaying with my parkour skills, flipping out and doing a genocide, stealing money that was on the floor, using random ass objects to do ilegal movements while running, use of weapons
defacing government property, or ecoterrorism, (?) repeatedly sending someone down a well, threatening police force with a cold scary monster, causing a dam to break and destroy government property
it’s like being gay and doing crime and the main character sure is gay
Breaking into a person's home, stealing all their shit, throwing it into a moving truck, possibly breaking doors, windows and other furniture in the process and fist fighting rats
Or doing all of that but instead of stealing, it's putting everything back shotly
Overthrowing capitalism and slaying a biblically accurate angel
Killing a lot of people and then selling their loot to the nearest trader
Doing math
Building a civilization for Disney characters
Crushing crates and stealing fruit, stole gems, harrased a village, harrased numerous animals, destroyed a factory, burned down a castle, hijacked a blimp, stole crystals, harassed more animals, destroyed an space station, defied space and time, stole more crystals, and definitely assaulted some scientists as well, too.
Am I missing anything?
I found this hilarious post stating elons girlfriends as typical c drama concubines and I'm loosing it
Bonus
Very sorry to hear of the passing of Chris Moore. He and Chris Foss were the giants of UK scifi book cover art during 1970s and 80s. I was lucky enough to own an original by Chris
I'll never sleep again
"Brazilian hand games and American hand games!!!! Realizing that the art of hand games comes from Africa! I never thought about it before. It was just embedded in our childhood."
"The collective consciousness is real"
"My goodness. We played this in Nigeria too."
There's a documentary with @jamilawoods called "Black Girls Play" about the history of handclap games in the US and their importance in the Black community. And a book before it called The Games Black Girls Play, by Kyra D. Gaunt.
well that caught me off guard
beyond parody
This is just smart business sense. If you can’t understand that, grow up.
