Above is “Rising From The Canyon” and is one of the pieces we will have on display at the West Valley Arts Council’s Arts HQ gallery as part of the “Celebrating The Grand Canyon” Exhibit from 03/08/2019 thru 04/18/2019. The opening reception is Friday, March 8th, 6pm – 8pm. The exhibit is in partnership with the Grand Canyon Conservancy. It will feature GCC Celebration of Art Plein Aire Artists and three local artists.

Road Trip Labor Day Weekend 2018 Part III

For Labor Day Weekend we decided to get out of the valley and head north to the Grand Canyon. This is Part III.

  Grandview Point We arrived at Grandview Point early Sunday morning before the sun appeared. Below is that early morning view, looking northeast.

A few moments later as morning’s first light reaches the temples and the sky becomes a brighter shade of blue.

  Grand Canyon Village Grand Canyon Village is where you find most of the tourist, but in the morning you normally miss the crowds. Our first stop is at the Harvey House Cafe at the Bright Angel Lodge, which is our favorite place for breakfast at the Canyon. Like usual we sit at a booth with a window view of the canyon and share the Bright Angel Breakfast (scrambled eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toast) plus coffee. The lodge was build in 1935 and is located on the edge of the canyon. It was designed by architect Mary Jane Colter. Below is the view of Lookout Studio after you exit the canyon side of the lodge. A few hours later, and all of the view points at the studio will be full of tourist enjoying the view and taking selfies.

This view is from the Rim Trail, near Bright Angel Lodge. The trees you see below is the Indian Garden Campground and is about 4.8 miles from Grand Canyon Village using the Bright Angel Trail. The Bright Angel Trail is the most popular trail on the South Rim and takes you to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. The trail to the left of Indian Garden is the Plateau Point Trail.

The Trip Back For our trip back we take the less traveled route, south on State Route 64 to Williams, west on Interstate 40 to Ash Fork, south on State Route 89 thru Prescott, Peeples Valley, Yarnell and Congress, south on U.S. Route 93 to Wickenburg, south on U.S. Route 60 to Surprise, then South on the 303 toward Interstate 10. Below is a view of Peeples Valley. Peeples Valley was named after prospector A. H. Peeples.

  Kaibab National Forest The Kaibab National Forest borders both the north and south rims of the Grand Canyon. Our camping spot for Saturday night was near the Grandview Lookout Tower, which is located in the Kaibab National Forest. The steel lookout tower was built in 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The site is also a trailhead for the Arizona Trail. Below is a view to of the canyon from the Grandview Lookout Tower.

Road Trip Labor Day Weekend 2018 – Part I

For the Labor Day Weekend we decided to take a Road Trip and head north to the Grand Canyon. Our first stop early Saturday morning was Starbucks, Blonde Flat White with whole milk for Connie, and a dark roast with room for cream for me. Plus we had our collection of road trip snacks. From the West Valley it’s the 303 freeway to the I-17 north.

  I-17 North of Black Canyon City Just past the Sunset Point rest stop exit we stopped for a moment to enjoy the early morning light. West of Sunset Point lie the Bradshaw Mountains, named for the brothers Issac and William D. Bradshaw. Before that they were known as the Silver Mountain Range.

  Sedona We exited I-17 at State Route 179 for Sedona. The other reason for our trip was to stop by the Sedona Arts Center and drop of a few pieces of artwork for their First Friday reception in September. Below is the view as we arrived into Sedona, the roads were still wet from a recent thundershower.

We arrived early into Sedona, giving us a little time to enjoy a few places before the Sedona Arts Center opened. Below is the view from the Red Rock Loop Road before heading to the Wildflower Bread Company in Uptown Sedona for a breakfast sandwich on a double toasted sesame seed bagel.

Thru The Trees To Cathedral Rock – 8:16 AM

  Flagstaff After leaving the Sedona Arts Center we headed north on State Route 89A thru Oak Creek Canyon toward Flagstaff. Below is a view of the San Francisco Peaks (highest point in Arizona) from U.S. Route 180 after stopping in Flagstaff for gas. It’s normally best to avoid paying for gas the closer you get to the Grand Canyon.

  South Rim Grand Canyon This is the view as we pulled into Grandview Point (looking northwest), 12 miles west of Grand Canyon Village along Desert View Drive. Before the construction of the El Tovar Lodge, Grandview was the first place along the rim to be developed for tourists, a hotel was built in 1895, but was only in operation for a few years.

A O and Connie Tucker Dual Solo Show – University Club Phoenix

We are excited to have our artwork decorate the elegant and charming University Club Phoenix!

The Tucker Tucker Dual Solo Show will be on display at the University Club Phoenix from September 2nd to October 27, 2017. We will be showcasing a large selection of our artwork during the exhibit. Matted artwork will also be available during the reception. The Artist Reception is open to the public and is on Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. The artwork can be viewed Monday-Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm by nonmembers. Please just identify yourself to the staff when you arrive.

In 2015 in conjunction with the Herberger Theater we co-curated the Candid Photography Exhibit at the club, and last year we had a Dual Solo Show, we are happy to be back!

Was excited have my “Four Yellow Eyes” in the June 2017 issue of Phoenix Magazine. Was also in last year’s June issue. 🙂 The photo was a finalist in their 7th Annual Photo Contest. The image will be included in our upcoming book “Burrowing Owls – They Live Among Us”. Feel very fortunate to have three different photos published in three different magazines in three different months. 🙂

Sedona Arts Center 12 x 12 Fundraiser 2017

White Rooster Portrait

  Sedona Arts Center 12 x 12 Project and Fundraiser

We are donating our “White Rooster Portrait” mounted on a 12 x 12 x 2 Museum Box™ to the Sedona Art Center for their 12 x 12 Fundraiser. The event is to help support their arts education programs and community arts outreach projects. All artwork for the exhibit will be 12 x 12, and available for $250. The reception is Friday, May 12 and is located in the historic Art Barn. Doors open at 5:30pm. Over 100 Artists will be contributing to the annual event.

White Rooster Portrait

The Rooster image was captured from the Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park located in Litchfield Park Arizona. The park has Arizona’s largest collection of exotic and endangered animals, with more than 600 separate species. The Elote Cafe in Sedona also currently has the “White Rooster Portrait” on display, where it is called “El Gallo Sabio” (The Wise Rooster).  It was also part of our Derivatives Exhibit at the Herberger Gallery @ Arizona Center.

Museum Box™

The Wise Rooster is printed using archival ink (Dark Storage Permanence Ratings well in excess of 200 years and over 400 years for black & white) and printed on Epson Velvet Fine Art paper (100% cotton rag for archivability). Each print is mounted to a ultra-smooth kaolin clay ground surface, which is archival and acid-free. The 2 inch side panels are made from sustainable forest products and stained to complement the image. Each box is signed and hand numbered on the back. The Museum Box™ can hang on a wall or sit on a shelf. No glass or glazing is put between you and the art (only a protective UV coating), allowing you to see the beauty of the rag paper.

Best Little Art Detour Show In Arizona

Above is an image of the “Best Little Art Detour Show in Arizona” from the Herberger Gallery @ Arizona Center. The exhibit includes 65 pieces of art from 13 different artists, curated by A O and Connie Tucker. All artwork is square (It’s hip to be square), and between 8 x 8 to 12 x 12. The opening reception is Friday, March 17, 6 – 9pm.

The Herberger Theater Center was built in 1989 and is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization whose mission is to support and foster the growth of performing arts in Phoenix as the premier performance venue, arts incubator and advocate.

Above is “Cathedral Rock White Blanket” mounted on a 12 x 16 x 2 panel, and is my part of the “Derivatives Exhibit” at the Herberger Gallery At Arizona Center.  A derivative is something that is based on another source. The other part of the exhibit will be a painting by Bruce Stam. The opening reception is Friday night, 6-8pm. The event is part of the 3rd Friday Artwalk. Below is a map for the gallery.
