I had the privilege of visiting one of our last remaining wild burrowing owl populations again on my trip out east. These funky little birds are about the size of your standard can of pop and need extensive prairie dog colonies to thrive so they are critically endangered from poaching and habitat loss.

Did more burrow maintenance this morning

I already see some pairings ready to mate that have the area close by decorated with rocks, feathers and vibrant pieces of plastic hicjejfjcjdkfj

And then there’s this fella I came across

Their gentle yet apprehensive gaze gripped me and at that moment we were both being perceived even if only for a moment.

So silly.
