She’s arboreal, she swears!
I’m trying to sleep.
I hear the rustling of bushes; get scared, wake up, turn on lights…
It’s not bushes, it’s just this girl up to her usual shenanigans. I shouldn’t be surprised, she’s been doing this since I got her back in 2019 smh
Freshly shed! I can tell she’s so much more comfortable now, this is the first time she’s just been completely out of her hide like this in a couple weeks. She just finished shedding last night, so she’s stretching out and relaxing outside her hides again! Love to see it ❤️
I just deep cleaned her enclosure the other day. She seems to be liking it
obsessed with the way the snake hobbyist community will freak out over a color morph because of how rare it is but when you actually look at the snake they’re cooing over it’s the ugliest thing you’ve ever seen in your life
all animals are beautiful or wherever but I don’t care how rare this morph is… this snake looks like a tube of dirty meat
lots of people in the notes are like “aw but it’s kinda cute OP”
of course it’s kinda cute, it’s a snake—it’s just that people are going apeshit and spending thousands of dollars importing and linebreeding to attempt to create a snake that looks like rancid sausage when wild type California kingsnakes are already some of the most gorgeous reptiles on the planet and some of their more common morphs look like THIS:
Of course I might be somewhat biased on account of owning The Most Beautiful Snake In The World:
This is Sandworm and I love her So Much.
I don’t know much about California Kingsnake morphs, but I *do* know quite a bit about ball/royal python morphs (since that was my pet of choice when I got into snakes, and I also think she is the Most Beautiful Snake In The World but that’s neither here nor there) and I completely agree. Wild type ball pythons are already gorgeous, and some of my favorite morphs are single or double gene animals that are pretty cheap in the world of ball python morphs. Don’t get me wrong, a blue-eyed Lucy is a pretty snake... but it’s also completely white with no pattern. And ridiculously expensive for a blank slate snake.
Yes yes, I know what goes into breeding a blue eyed Lucy and I know why they cost that much. But. Like. There are so many four and five gene snakes out there, going for literal thousands of dollars (not joking. I’ve seen ball pythons marked at $10,000 USD) when one or two fairly common genes already makes a wild looking snake. Like. Have you seen a plain albino ball python? As babies some of their scales look like liquid fucking GOLD. Or black pastel albinos???
Like. My snake is a VPI Axanthic, and she’s browned out as she aged, but she is so gorgeous I wouldn’t trade her for the most ridiculous, 30-year-breeding-project, 11-gene pixelated-looking pythons that top breeders are coveting like the solution to world hunger.
I couldn’t turn on any lights because my grandma was sleeping on the other sofa in the same room, but I tried to get pictures of Nasake exploring the couch! (When I wasn’t busy trying to keep her from slithering into the cracks of said couch >.>)
Some rare glamour shots ❤️
She is thankful for warm blankets ❤️
Can you spot her face?
Pic from two days ago;
Nasake says hello
An overdue photo shoot! (She shed almost a week ago so apart from feeding her I’ve mostly been letting her rest)
Little model, she is. So good at the posing!
Ok fine, I’ll turn her light back off and leave her alone, lol.
Picture from last week because today is feeding day (I postponed a day because of a family visit, and said family really wanted to hold her so instead of getting fed yesterday, she gets fed tonight.)
Update on Nasake:
This goof. This drama queen. This little weird living spaghetti with no brainnnn.
No wait, that’s wrong. She has a brain. She knows EXACTLY what she’s doing. No lie, she is a super smart snake. And she is probably doing this just to spite me (logically I know that’s not true, but I’m salty still).
So she didn’t eat the first time I offered right? I left it in there overnight to see if she just didn’t wanna be watched— every now and then she’s like that and just won’t eat until she can’t see me anymore. But no, it was still there in the morning so I had to get rid of it. But as soon as I removed the thing, she’s flying out of her hide in strike position and from two years of dealing with her and her body language, I can tell she’s begging for food and she’s not defensive. I close the enclosure, and she looks straight at me in strike pose, not moving, and I just sigh like “this is how you’re gonna be?” And I set another rat to defrost as I dispose of the old one. Come back in after it’s defrosted, and as soon as I go to unlock the enclosure, she once again just comes right out of her hide (it was like noon, she should have been asleep) and sits there in strike position. Just waiting. Takes the rat as soon as I offer it to her.
Wtf did we waste a rat on, then? Your drama? You wanted to wait an extra twelve hours? Wtf? I did absolutely nothing different and rats are expensive you picky jerk.
And Nasake is usually a very good eater, so problems like this are few and far between. But this is not the first time she’s done this. Exact. Thing. At least she’s never gone on a hunger strike though. The longest she’s gone without eating is two weeks and she’s the first snake I’ve ever kept, so I count that as a win.
She is not repentant.
This heathen has ignored her food and decided instead to try to yank down the nozzles that mist her enclosure again. By climbing on the tubes connecting to the nozzles even though there are VINES MEANT FOR HER TO CLIMB ON only a few INCHES AWAY
This heathen.
Absolute jerk.
Hi! I just decided to start this blog because today is feeding day, so I won't be handling my only baby for today or the following 48 hours after she eats (Probably for even a little more than that because I rather she not poop on me, thanks). So I'm having a little bit of a withdrawal issue because I wanna hold her so bad but I cannnnnn't. So I shall overcompensate by marathoning videos of other people's pet snakes and sharing my own. I have hundreds of pictures of my spoiled little baby.
So! This is Nasake, she is a ball python that is a little over 2 years old now. I got her on August 3, 2019. The breeder said she was "two or three months old" when I asked him, so I don't know her exact hatch date. She is a VPI Axanthic Ball Python. I haven't taken an exact measurement of her length, but she is probably pushing 4 feet if her recent sheds are to be believed. I. Love. My babyyyyyyyyyy.
