S. E. Hinton on some of the script writing process for The Outsiders. She doesn't mention in this clip — just alludes, really — to the fact that she and Francis Ford Coppola were uncredited screenwriters on the script.
She says: Francis would ask me to look over the dialogue and cut as needed. And it was really fascinating because he took the book and he outlined the thought in one color, the action in one color, and the dialogue in one color. And kinda just, chopped the book up into pieces like that, and from there wrote the screenplay. There's very little I didn't do on the Outsiders.
whenever there are discussions about the various adaptations, i feel like it's important this isn't forgotten. se hinton and ffc put in a lot of work and effort into adapting this. and it's a damn shame they weren't credited for the script.
hbd to the best adaptation of the outsiders.
