Hey. Stop for a second. Take this moment to appreciate that you don't have to write a paper right now. No one is asking you to write a paper. You don't have to think about the paper or plan your time around the paper. You have the freedom to think about whatever you want. Everything is going to be okay. At least you don't have to write a paper right now
Anne Truitt, from a diary entry featured in Turn: The Journal of an Artist originally published in 1982
taylor has been moving in this way since the very beginning in her career. and honestly, it's because she had to. she had to go on a radio tour and build relationships in the hopes they'd spin the song by a girl on a label nobody had ever heard of! but even in this pinnacle of her success, when she could easily sit back, kick her feet up and say i deserve the win and if i don't get them, they're just wrong, she's still putting in the work. she's still taking the time to make sure the right people are hearing the music and the process directly from her, seeing the grit and the determination right in front of them. she makes it so that there's no denying her work ethic or her talent.
In an age where being transparent about your ambition and drive is sneered at in certain corners, how fucking cool is it to have one of the most famous and celebrated people in the world continually push hard for the work she feels so strongly about and showing why it’s important to believe in what you do and SHOW why you believe in it by working your ass off to make it a success! We need less unbothered, more grit!
My love is as cruel as the cities I lived in, every one looked worse in the light
Okay. Come on, then. I love you, get up, we are going to keep going. Repeat this to yourself in a mirror or in a whisper or in the shower or in a shout. I love you, get up, keep going.
I am tired too. It's okay. We will sleep in the car ride over. We will sleep on each other's shoulders. We will sleep upside down and in the laps of new friends and on the bellies of our lovers and in the hands of better tomorrows. We will sleep and we will wake up rested and we will wake up happy and we will wake up home again.
I love you, get up. It's time to write "maybe next time" on our gravesite. It's time to write: it could not kill me, I would not die. It's time to write a love letter to the sun and our one-act play and the history of our keychains. It is time to write a future where despite everything, we are finally warm and safe.
I love you. I love you. I love you.
Get up. Keep going. We are going to be okay.
I will continue to come back to this album over and over again
