New Job, New Place, New People
Been a long time since I posted on here. But I’ve had a job now for about a month and a half with the US Forest Service in Alaska. This has been a fantastic time, and I absolutely love it up here. Eventually, pictures and more thoughts to come.
Brand New Job
What a change of pace. From the constant deadline, constant worry of the office, to meeting and greeting people and being paid to hike and go to concerts and look at views like this. What a change.
Hot Springs is a...different type of National Park, to say the least.
Of all the pictures I’ve taken, this one is probably one of the most important ones to me. It sums up to me what the National Park Service’s mission is- to protect these places not so that they can simply be hidden away, but done so in a manner that lets everyone enjoy them.

“Dear Ranger Shelly, Thank you for teaching me about humus, sand, silt and clay. In the flume room, I learned a lot about those things. It was fun being a team leader. I liked how the water flew down the flume. I also enjoyed the nature walk with Mrs. Ann and Mr. G. I saw a lot of bugs, animals, and animal habitats. I liked going off-trail. The best part was when we drew with Mr. Jimmy. Watercolor pencils are awesome! My picture looked cool until I added erosion. That was the only bad part.” - 3rd grade participant, Congaree National Park
Cool this is at the first Full-dyed-in-the-wool national park I ever visited.
