No Objections Here — Higuruma Hiromi x Reader
1,004 words | no warnings, fluff
The front door clicks shut well past midnight.
Hiromi Higuruma pauses in the entryway, shoulders heavy beneath his coat, tie loosened from a long day that stretched far beyond reason.
The apartment is dim except for a soft amber glow spilling from the bathroom down the hall.
He exhales quietly. “Still awake…?”
There’s no answer—just the faint sound of water moving.
He follows the light and finds you in the bathtub, steam curling gently toward the ceiling. Your eyes are closed, hair damp against your cheeks, knees tucked slightly to keep warm. The room smells like soap and something faintly floral.
Peaceful. Untouched by courtrooms or curses.
For a moment, he simply watches.
His expression softens in that subtle way he rarely allows others to see.
“You’ll catch a cold if you fall asleep in there,” he murmurs, voice low and tired—but not scolding. He never scolds you.
Your eyes flutter open, surprise melting quickly into a sleepy smile. “You’re home.”
“I am.” He sets his briefcase aside with quiet care. “Sorry. It took longer than I intended.”
He always says that. As if the world ever runs on his intentions.
You shift slightly, water rippling. “Care to join me?”
There’s the faintest raise of his brows. A hint of disbelief—then warmth. “You make it sound like I need some convincing.”
He removes his coat, folds it neatly over the counter. Even exhausted, he’s meticulous. His tie follows, then his shirt—movements unhurried, composed. The steam softens him somehow, blurring the sharp lines he carries through the day.
When he steps into the tub behind you, the water rises gently around both of you. He inhales at the warmth, tension easing from his shoulders in visible increments.
“…I didn’t realize how cold I was,” he admits.
You settle back against him instinctively. His arms come around you without hesitation, long and secure, hands resting just above your stomach. He fits there like he’s always belonged—like this is the one place he doesn’t have to brace for impact.
For a while, neither of you speak. Both of you love this kind of silence—so peaceful.
His chin rests lightly atop your head. The steady rhythm of his breathing grows slower, deeper.
“I argued with someone today who refused to see reason,” he says quietly, more thoughtful than upset. “I suppose I should be used to that.”
You tilt your head slightly. “Did you win?”
A soft huff of amusement escapes him. “That depends on one’s definition of winning.”
His fingers trace idle patterns against your skin beneath the water—absent-minded, grounding. “But… coming home to this,” he murmurs, voice gentler than it ever is in court, “feels like a far more decisive verdict.”
You laugh softly. He feels it against his chest.
“You always talk like that.” yet you love it.
“Occupational hazard.”
He shifts just enough to press a small, lingering kiss to your temple. It’s not dramatic. Not urgent. Just warm.
“I don’t say this enough,” he continues, quieter now. “But thank you. For waiting up. For existing here with me.”
There’s something vulnerable in the way he says it—like he’s presenting evidence he’s not used to submitting.
You turn slightly in his arms, enough to see his face. The stern, thoughtful lines are softened completely now. Bare. Human.
“You don’t have to carry everything alone,” you whisper.
His gaze lingers on you—long, studying, as if committing the moment to memory. “…I know,” he says after a beat. “I’m learning.”
He draws you closer, arms tightening just slightly. Protective, but gentle.
The water cools slowly around you, but neither of you move to leave yet. For once, the world outside the apartment is silent. And in the warmth of the bath, wrapped in his steady embrace, Hiromi allows himself something he rarely permits—
Rest.
